  • The easy transfer tool Windows calculates disk space before starting to transfer?

Using the transfer windows easy between 2 pc both with vista. Calculate wet if there is enough space on 'new' drive until it begins the transfer?

    Thanks for the help.

    original title: disk space

    Hi Pitski,

Yes, Windows easy transfer evaluates disk space is needed to transfer your selections. If you use a USB flash drive, try to use one with enough storage space for the transfer of all. If your USB drive is not large enough to transfer everything at once, you can copy as many files that it will hold, transfer those files to the new computer, and then reconnect the drive to the old computer and repeat the process.

  • can I use easy transfer from Windows 7 to Windows Vista?

I'm moving my wife's laptop running Windows 7 to a desktop running Vista, I can't transfer easily to work just so I think that it might be impossible. Someone can tell me if it is possible to do or not?

You cannot use WET to transfer files from a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows to a running a 32-bit version, so make sure that both computers are running the same architecture.  I think you have to use version Vista of WET on both computers because Vista is the target computer.  Maybe that's a problem.  Microsoft has made many changes to WET for Windows 7.  All active links that I could find were to download the compatible version Windows 7 on XP and Vista and to transfers of these systems with a target of Windows 7.

  • Download & install Windows Easy Transfer

I am trying download & install Easy Transfer from the site Web of M/S to this PC and have problems.

No. I tried to go at support.Microsoft.com, who told to download/install Windows Easy Transfer on two PCs, the former with Windows XP and a new one with Windows 7. The new PC (Windows & a W.E.T. already installed, but this one, old (Windows XP Hpme, does not, so I went to this PC programs: Accessories/system files/tools transfer, but still unable to get this to work o.))

You are using the wrong program.

Windows XP Home Edition does not have Windows Easy Transfer, so you went somewhere on the Microsoft site and downloaded something.  You should have gone to the web page linked above, where you would have had 4 choices: XP 32-bit, XP 64 bit, Vista 32 bit and Vista 64-bit.  Did you download the version appropriate for your system (32-bit XP almost certainly)?

Assuming that you have downloaded the version appropriate for your system, you should have and then double-click on the icon named "wet7xp_x86.exe" to install Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7.  The start for this icon must be at the bottom of your start > list all programs.  It is NOT the same as the program that starts the start > all programs > Accessories > system tools > files and Settings Transfer Wizard.  This is the old version, which is designed for the transfer of files, etc. of earlier versions of Windows TO Windows XP.

I suggest that you try to perform a clean boot and check if it helps.

Clean boot will check if any third-party application is causing the problem, as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Can I use easy transfer of the hard disk Vista for 64-bit Windows 7 computer?

My computer laptop 32 bit vista is dead, but the hard drive is intact.  I can access it using a disk blacx disk drive hard usb.  All files seem to be good.  I gave the disc all permissions for changes, etc., so that it is not just to read only.  He sees my new laptop running windows 7 64 bit.  I found files in the record Office of the old drive so that part works.

I tried to use easy transfer in windows 7.  Installed on the old disk of vista.  But I can't launch the vista easy transfer since this computer is dead.

Is there a way I can transfer my emails, photos, documents and the itune files?

    Thank you.

You can use Knoppixhttp://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html with a good ISO as Copier: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm as well as a blank CD (made on a different computer).  This should give you sufficient access to the Vista system 'dead' (if you can not get in any other way) backup/transfer your important data (like everything else you mentioned) to the one you use (an external hard drive, flash player,...). You will not be able to save your settings or your programs because they require the enforcement system to use easy transfer and regular functions copy and paste will do the trick. If Knoppix doesn't work, try slaving the hard drive to another computer, and then after the data you want to save it.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Windows easy transfer. I can't use transfer to move files to the new computer

I used windows easy transfer to back up my files to an external hard drive before doing a clean install of windows 7, XP.

I am unable to find any "windows easy transfer" files on the hard drive for transfer to the new computer.

ALL the files from my old computer are there and I am able to access it from the external hard drive.

Please tell me there is an easy way to transfer files and I don't have to do it manually.

What is the error message when you try to restore files in Windows 7?

Also, did you really use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up your files or did you use the built in the files and Settings Transfer wizard in Windows XP? If you used the files and Settings Transfer Wizard, that won't work no.

You must install Windows Easy Transfer on Windows XP, save the files as one. MIG file on your external drive, restore it on the Windows 7 computer. See for instructions:
