El Capitan with old Mac Pro update

I have an Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 3.2 2012 computer with 12 GB of RAM. I am reluctant to give up the thing because I have 4 Bay SATA I can use to easily swap drives.

Running the latest version of Yosemite, the computer may appear VERY slow, especially when a background (backups, indexing of Spotlight) task are underway.  Clean caches helps some, for a while, then it gets pretty slow again.

Can anyone share some thoughts on what upgrade to El Capitan might do? I had read that it is largely an improvement in the performance of Yosemite, it seems as if it might give me a boost in performance. However, each successive OS update saw things slow further.

Then, add more RAM would help things?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If Yosemite is slow, then you must fix before attempting to upgrade. Make a backup or your system, then wipe the drive and install a new copy of Yosemite or El Capitan.

Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

HD recovery start:

Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

Erase the drive:

1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

Security and button all the option data from scratch in a single pass. Click

the clear button and wait until the process is complete.

4 leave FROM and return to the main menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the install button.

Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible

because it is three times faster than wireless.

This should install the version of Mac OS X that you had installed it. Upgrade directly to El Capitan.

  • Installation 10.11.6 El Capitan with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on old Mac Pro 4.2 multiboot?

Looking for savvy here advice...  I have an old Mac Pro 4.2 (cheese grater) that runs Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  It is a wonderful workhorse machine, who served me tirelessly for many years.  It is obviously older and slower, but works very well.  I love 10.6.8.  If Apple ever updated the Mac Pro line (I know, probably not... sigh...), I'll buy one and replace this machine.  Until then, I keep doing this work.

This machine is a beast, has been upgraded with internal hard drives 1 TB three (he also got a couple internal HDs inherited from 750 and 500 MB used for storage).  I have also several external 1-4 to, hip, FW800 drives too.  A host of storage, of course, and should be a lot of options to start on several systems.

I am generally satisfied with 10.6.8 on this machine, although there are obvious limits to that.  I would get one or two operating systems newer on it, pick-and-choose between them according to the needs, but I absolutely want to/need to preserve the ability to initiate and run 10.6.8 systematically as my operating system on the day the day, at least for now.  Maybe I'll warm to one of the others on this machine eventually, but 10.6.8 must remain usable, install a newer OS on other readers may not nerve there.

On a year-and-a-half ago, I took a race to install 10.10.3 Yosemite on one of the internal disks.  This doesn't quite work.  I moved, sniffed Yosemite everywhere, don't really like it a lot and went to restart and him switch back to 10.6.8 for a bit.  Initially, it was impossible (from less than I expected, would be the same old process, I have always used, via system preferences > startup disk).  You can read the details of this experience here and more here if you are interested.  This latest attempt to get Yosemite on this machine was a very negative experience.  Yosemite is still there on an internal HD, but I tried not to boot on it since then.

Now I take another look at this.  What is the engine now, is that I want to update my iPad Mini 3 iOS 10.  But that (update of an iDevice iOS 10) requires iTunes 12.5.1.  And iTunes 12.5.1 requires Mac OS X 10.9.5 or newer - it won't work with 10.6.8.  I'm looking for my options.

Right now, I have three large internal HDs: HD #1, 2 # HD and HD #3, each 1 TB.

HD #1 has 10.10.3 Yosemite on this.  I started from this time and have not resumed since.

HD #2 has 10.6.8 Snow Leopard top.  This is my main operating system and startup of daily drive.

HD #3 is nothing special about it.

Although HD #1's Yosemite about that, I have only started from this disc once and hesitate to go back, at least until I can get a way easy and reliable to restart off HD #2.

I understand that I can also get 10.11.6 El Capitan.  I thought that installing on HD #3.  That sounds like a reasonable to add option, but again, I want to make sure it won't cause problems to switch back to start off HD #2 in Snow Leopard (such as installation of Yosemite on HD #1).

What is the best way for me to go about safely - preserve the option to start easily in 10.6.8 on HD #2?

    Thanks for the help!

If you start or restart now Option (Alt) key and calls the Startup Manager, you should be given the choice at the start of any boot disk OS X on any of the readers.

  • Is it worth to replace a macbook pro with an old mac pro?

    I have a 13 "macbook pro mid 2012, core i5 2.5 ghz and 4 GB of RAM

I plan to replace an old mac pro with intel xeon 3 GHz dual core or quad (maybe from 2009 or 2010) and slowly upgrade by adding more RAM, sound card, and video, etc. (I won't change the logic board)

Computer will be used for the games, but especially for a music with logic studio Pro X (requires OS X El Capitan)

    It's worth?

OK, now you have 2013MBP 13 inches, and you said topic you will use the computer to do some professional work as a music studio (btw, I somehow like music studio, but I could can't work on that to this life) and games.

and now your account to replace it with a Mac Pro, which is a desktop computer, I have to say that they are in any other product, and you are already thinking on this subject, which means that you don't have to wear it around right? So, personally, I recommend the CHANGE! There?

as you say you only have two choices, keep the macbook pro 13 "or replace with the older generation of the Mac Pro, I would say 13-inch MacBook Pro can almost do anything even the latest generation! since low-votage and integrated dual-core process just crappy graph, I don't really think its meet your needs (Audio Studio, game)

So for you its might be interesting to replace it, but you may need to do the following to make the old gen Mac Pro more "usable".

-Add the Ram, I remember its only accepts DDR2 ram (I think, not really sure, I have never had one of that), but get at least 16 GB of this and will be allowed to use the same sound only DDR2, you need measure the cost dedicated to Rams

-Add the USB3.0 card. I didn't say more on this right? USB2 is somehow too crappy for now, if you need measure the cost of the USB3.0 card.

-Probably to replace the hard drive, its massively improve loading speed if you have a fusion drive or an SSD, its depends on your own needs, if you want to do, then you need measure the cost of training you want to buy.

-Replace the graphics card, its origin have something called AMD X 3100 or wat, really, remember its all just too old even glance at her age. and return at the time its totally new, it is not the series of cards that have the intention of game. According to the info you provided, you have need a map rendering and 3D design professional, but a card game, then you may need to replace it with more recently built AMD or Nvidia graphics card in game, try watching the series Geforce and Rasomething. and theres something that should be mentioned is the old Mac Pro motherboard, is somewhat different with PC on hardware support, so that the graphics card must take in charge the Mac EFI boot or something else. I do not see the HD7970 and the GTX7? 0 mac edition, which works perfectly after replacement, but also of boys randomly announcement that they got the PC normal edition of some cards and put it on the Mac Pro, its can't stand not EFI of Mac Pro type so that they can not see a shit only on the screen while the Startup logo should show, but once finished go , its works perfectly. That's what I've heard, I'm bloody tired and sleepy now (PLUS8 GMT) hope so I made an explanation clear outta giant paragraph. But anyway, because they have tested PC edition graphics card also works on Mac, theres a huge amount of graphics card, you can buy and before you buy, if your not sure if this does not work on Mac, just borrow one of it and test it just outside, or directly, so search for Mac guaranteed Mac-compatitable by manufacturing , you need measure the cost of this.

-Possibly a map HiFi sound taking in charge waves and digital output since your doing audio studio, the price increases a breakfast unique price you can buy a car outta that, then choose the one you want and measure the cost.

-the processor might be still allowed to use and the current level of normal performance, so you can just keep it, but if you want to update, of course, a position which cost.

-The time you go to research / purchase parts/physically change/test this baby. as goes XD.

That's essentially all you need to do if you decide to replace your MacBook Pro 13 "with the Mac Pro, the major concern is the cost of parts, other that neither that complex, just to the top, find open port, insertion/replacement material, FACT, USB3 card possible to require a driver, but all you have to do is click NEXT.

OK, good luck pal and if you blow up your House all by improving the Mac Pro, don't tell anyone I gave you these suggestions ok? XDXD

  • Screen Dell 5 k with 2013 Mac Pro in El Capitan

So, after years of waiting for Apple to make a screen that mocks use of the capabilities of the Mac Pro, I gave up and bought the Dell UP2715K 27 inch monitor UltraSharp Ultra-HD 5 K.

Thus, the question, someone at - it operate under El captain to 5 K with the 2013 Mac Pro garbage.

Apple migration does not work for programs Adobe because of hidden registration files that don't yield. You must remove the installation failure and do a clean install of your original media or download programs and install.

  • Mac benchmarks: iMac vs old Mac Pro towers

I had a great discussion in a PPro Facebook group about new editing systems; I have a limited budget for 3 new Macs in our society and I feel confident about the purchase of a new Mac Pro (for the Organization, AE, color correction and finishing work) and 2 iMacs with Thunderbolt RAIDs (just for editing with the body).

However, I am curious: when I look at the scores of Geekbench for the latest Mac models there are old Mac Pro (2009-2013) which seem to surpass the latest performance multicore 64-bit iMac. Core performance has the iMac coming out on top (I'm only in the retina 27 ", not the new model 5K). So who is more indicative of the performance when editing with Premiere Pro? I've heard publishers who say that their new iMacs circles run around the older towers, they replaced so I tend to believe that a new iMac feel faster than even the last money Mac Pro Tower (2012); but a beast of 12 strands with a beefy GPU has got to be a serious contender when it comes to tasks of intense multiprocessing.

I know that it is many of the factors which together determine 'speed' (GPU, RAM, storage), so it will not always be a simple comparison of 1:1 with these models. I want to just make sure that I'm investing in material adequate and very curious about how these points of reference will result in Premiere Pro performance in the real world.

    TIA,

    JVK

The reason for that many saw operation faster than the Imac their Mac Pro tower to with faster clock speed on the CPU Quad Core desktop that was I7 Gen 4 Haswell versus more slow I7 Gen 1 Xeons in the old Mac Pro towers. The nMPro have the IVY E Xeons, which helped significantly, but video cards are AMD who don't perform nearly as well as Nvidia cards with Adobe's GPU acceleration. Until the new 5 K of the Imac have Nvidia GPU, providing a much better performance with Adobe that AMD cards. That's why many saw better performance on those against the nMPro. Essentially, the system must be enough cores/threads to decode/encode ideally codecs and then GHz has more effect than the hearts and son regarding GPU acceleration. More complex projects, that is to say layers and FX nuclei more desired. AE is mainly all the CPU and ram, if you really want more cores/threads and ram with who. IMac isn't good AE systems. So far your plan is solid for a Mac programming since the new imac 5K is really nothing more than a brilliant with a new display card unhappy AMD. Just keep in the mind the Imac are portable glorified. They have a desktop CPU in them, but the rest is really mainly portable equipment which means lower performance. 4K workflow will be limited on those if you get outside Pro Res.

The AC wall connector is not compatible with the outlet on the MBP?  As the MBP charger will work from 100v to 240v, a transformer is necessary.  You need a converter that connects to the power outlet home and is compatible with your MBP.  You can buy the Apple travel kit:

Or you can use a single specific converter for the geographical area:

  • Help with Ram & graphics (old mac pro)

    Hello!

I am in need of help on my "old" gen mac pro 8-core xeon 5500 3rd (early 2009).

I just upgraded it to El Captain 10.11.6 and everything is working quite well.

I want to upgrade the RAM 16 GB and change the video card to something more recent with at least 1 GB of ram on it.

This mac was sitting in a corner for a while due to a recent move to London and I chose to give it a try and continue to use it.
At the moment, I have the following configuration:

I went to the apple store in Covent Garden, here in London and they told me to check the site of Crucial that ram that I buy using their tool to find the exact model, I need.

Well... I did... and the Web page does not suggest me any RAM, only SSDS.

I tried the same tool on other Mac I (iMac and macbook pro) and it worked.

So, my fear is that they (crucial) have no RAM in stock for my specific model.

Do you know what version should I buy and where? (amazon?)

The same is for the video card, I want to upgrade to another card with at least 1 GB of ram on it.

The mac will be used mainly as Adobe Creative station for Photoshop / Lightroom / InDesign.

Thank you in advance and I really hope you can help me. (even the guy from the apple store told me to ask here...)
