Encryption InDesign EPUB and fonts

Hi all

I'm back with another question for experts. When I download my file here, the site of epub validator, I get the following error:

ERROR: eng.epub/META-INF/encryption.xml(1): attribute 'compression' of the namespace " " http://ns.Adobe.com/digitaleditions/ENC "not allowed at this stage; ignored

I looked this error message and I discovered here (4 poster) should I export my file without encryption policies. However, I don't know how to do with Indesign that I don't see the option who allotted me when exported. Also, export without fonts is not an option for now, exporting to different lanuages is one of the final projects of goals.

I use version 6.05. As a side note, the file works great on of many different ereaders (ipad included) but now I'm trying to publish the book on the ibook store, and looks like they have a DRM (?) serious must be deleted until you can get in their store.

In addition, bonus question which file is mentioned here:

ERROR: eng.epub: length of the first file name in the archive must be 8, but was 49

Thank you all!

When you embed a font adds ID a file in the META-INF folder inside your epub delete this file, you should be ok encryption.xml

Also, it is not a matter of simply rezipping, there is an order involved. I posted a link to an AppleScript that does for you, in a thread of a couple to the bottom of it.

I think this will fix your second issue

When I export to a fixed provision ePub and you later want to convert it to a Kindle format fonts in the /META-INF/encryption.xml file are not retrieved correctly. How can I tell InDesign do not encrypt the font files and incorporate instead?

The CSS has nothing to do with encryption. If your font (ttf or otf) is applied in InDesign, the fontface markup will be automatically generated by InDesign and this markup does not matter whether or not the police is encrypted/hidden.

If you have used fonts under SIL Open Font License (OFL) license (Linotype, FontFont,... are not lic. under SIL!), you can extract the contents of your ePub, replace the font files included here, with the original font files and delete the encryption.xml file. Then you can convert it to Kindle. Of workaround does not work with typekit, skyfonts or services because you don't have access to the original font files. • Links and fonts in Genereated fixed provision EPUB MOBI files

I have a fixed provision created in ID CC2014 epub that works as expected. The use of kindlegen to create my mobi file. Hyperlinks in text do not work (image links work very well) and @font-face statement does not work.

The tags are displayed as I expect when I unzip the epub and review the code. I tried to make it simple ID link and edit the code. None worked. I can ad a link tag to an image in the .xhtml file that works as expected. A button hides the text and does not work as well. Is a hyperlink, a known issue with ID EPUB going mobi?

There is a @font-face in the css file and a folder of fonts containing the fonts there. Is this a known issue with ID EPUB going mobi?

Steve, thanks for the input it was useful.

After a few days to dissect the xhtml and the css generated from the ID, I was able to find a solution by adding TT fonts in the @font face and remove the kit web css for related words. If somebody needs specific information about the workflow, message me and I'll be happy to share.

  • InDesign epub validation warnings cause?

Hi, I create a book only for use on the iBook store of Apple.

I have used InDesign Cs5.5 on PC, created an epub, unzipped to edit html and css and rezipped code. When I put it in the validator I got these warnings: -.

    WARNING: Book1b.epub:
       resource OEBPS/fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf cannot be decrypted

    WARNING: Book1b.epub:
       resource OEBPS/fonts/MinionPro-Regular.otf cannot be decrypted

    WARNING: Book1b.epub:
item (iTunesMetadata.plist) exists in the zip file, but is not declared in the OPF file

I noticed they're warnings and no errors, do some surfing, some people think it's ok. When I submit to Apple will be there always pass the test of the epub and if not, is there an easy way to remedy these warnings?

I learned that in the export to a file in Indesign there is an option to uncheck include embeddable fonts, so using Indesign, I made a version with this box unchecked. Then I copied my html files updated in this version. There is now no folder fonts in the epub and no mention of it in the .opf file.  Everything seems correct, but I fear it may cause problems that I don't know if my book have the font I chose by default.

What version of my book is the right to submit to Apple, the one with the built-in fonts or without?

    Any help appreciated. Thank you!

If you do not want to include embedded fonts make you that there is not a folder of fonts included, remove all references to fonts that InDesign may be resumed in the content.opf file. Finally, open the container.xml file. InDesign inserts sometimes here for embedding fonts. Remove all references to fonts and you must pass the epubchecker without warnings from the police.

  • InDesign ePUB - can't get the background image to flush vertical css borders

    Hello

I'm testing my new found skills epub in InDesign CC2015. I'm working on a simple project which was originally for printing (pdf) and decided to make an epub version. I created an external css file where I included the left and right borders for aesthetics. These borders are growing and contracts vertically, depending on the amount of content exists on the page.

The problem I've come across is if I have a picture as the last asset on the page, the image appears slightly higher than the lower part of the border (see screen shot on the left). It seems that it is a pixel or two higher. The pixelated graphic is anchored to an empty paragraph with a single non-breaking space character. The text block has no indentations, no space before / after values and auto leading together. Object styles have been created for the frame and a paragraph and graphic style has been made to the text. This happens for any image I load in the page and place it at the bottom.

In the another screenshot, I have a block of text as the last element, and I get a perfect drop-in appearance at the bottom (turned to the right of the screen).

I cracked open the epub and seen in Chrome html pages. I launched the F12 tools to see the HTML and css code and margin all values are reset to zero. I can't understand why this only happens for images and no text blocks. Anyone has an idea why this happens?

    digital-editions-1.jpgdigital-editions-2.jpg

I recently found the answer to my own question. I indicated that I was with a CSS file external to add some additional styles, mainly for vertical borders. After, I cracked open the ePUB, I opened the page html in Chrome and dug down to find the via F12 tools.  I pointed out the tag and took a glance at the corresponding CSS. There is no margin value so I added a img {margin-bottom:-3px ;} entry and it's the bottom of the image, run ras from the bottom of the border.} Then I went back to my file CSS external to the ePUB and added values. When you export to Adobe Digital Editions, I got the same desired results. The other images in the document may not be visually compromised this either so I think that's a wrap.

Hello, I'am getting a little crazy because Group/scrolling text does not. I looked at several videos of Adobe evangelists now to make a scrolling text or group.  I ' am in collaboration with InDesign CC and it looks like my 'Overlay tools' do not work.  When I see the preview, I can't scroll but only to select text. My steps are simple: I put my text in a selected area. PLACE IN > that select > Folio overlays > floating framework. It does not scroll. What I've done wrong?

  • How to convert a print InDesign EPUB document?

    I'm learning...

I produced a book printed in the format 6 x 9 "and now wants to publish a corresponding ebook. Setting up a new document allows the opening of Digital Publishing, I do not see a conversion function.

I tried to open a new document for Digital Publishing and Place the printed book in the pages, but only one place page. I had added the total number of pages in the document, there was room to move forward.

    How can this be achieved?

Thanks for the references of my titles on lynda.com Derek!

That's all, so source of confusion for new users, you have my sympathy Dennis, but soon it will emerge. I think that a main thing, is that usually no need to start over. Just do a save slot for your printing doc and autour mess with here, then export to epub. Especially if you go at fixed disposal. Keep it in a 6 "by 9" and the export of single - or-(spreads) pages as an EPUB.

I have a number of titles on lynda.com on creating the files ePub, everything for the beginning/intermediate ebook designers. The three most common are:

Creation of layout fixed EPUB with InDesign CC

This is for InDesign CC and CC 2014 and explains how to convert an EPUB of provision fixed an InDesign layout. It includes a full chapter on using interactive elements (animations, slideshows, cross-references, etc.) as well as a complete work around some issues chapter. And I shows how to crack open and add simple code to make things that InDesign can't do (yet) like integrate a video hosted remotely.

    InDesign CC: EPUB Foundation

This warranty covers create ebooks EPUB 2 and 3 of the EPUB recomposable more typical of InDesign, which requires much more preparation for the InDesign file as ch-layout (but it is much more widely supported that the Fixed-Layout format is). This includes converting the file into a Kindle Book too, that you can't do with a layout fixed epub.

    Create a fixed layout EPUB

I wrote and recorded this a few years before InDesign took in charge the export format. It shows how to create an EPUB fixed layout from scratch - I show how to write HTML files yourself and includes a template to help you get started. There are chapters on the conversion of PDF files and earlier versions of InDesign at fixed disposal too.

All these include free sample movies, but you will need a subscription to lynda.com to see all the films. You can usehttp://lynda.com/freepass/amconcepcion for a free trial week. You will however need to give them your credit card at the front and do not forget to cancel before the road of the week.  However, the sub is only $25 / month and you can cancel after one month, it's a good deal.

You should check InDesignSecrets.com, InDesign Magazineand ePubSecrets.com for more current info on InDesign and EPUB.

I hope some of these help!

  • ePub FXL - fonts not displayed correctly

No idea why the fonts are not displayed correctly in an ePub FXL, if the paragraph style is set to world-ready composer? But they are integrated into the Fonts folder.

    Hello

World ready composer is not supported in the text living in FXL EPUB and this is why you are facing problems with it. Change the composer the only composer to composer/paragraph line should solve the problem.

  • InDesign epub (fixed provision)

Please can someone help I am really puzzled. I am trying to create a simple epub in the version latestst in indesign. The epub has as objects from left or right or discoloration basic animation. The animation runs when I look in the new screen preview indesign epub. But when I export the epub that the animation does not work when I view it in ibooks.

  • Exprt to EPub and receive the Null object Error Message

I tried to use the application InDesign CS4 export to the digital edition. Unfortunately, the Null object error shortly after his execution. No idea why this is happening. There are very little information associated with InDesign and an error of this type. This should be easy. I don't know if it's a problem of plugin or something else. Help!

Thank you. I downloaded the CC version to see what the changes to the form. I like the fact that there is now only one choice in the menu of and then provide a variety of file formats in the menu dropdown. I tried the ePub and while it worked, I was disappointed by the formatting which is a complaint common shadowing by many users. A PDF file is identical to the document being created, the EPub is different.

I'm going back to look at the formatting of the "objects" to see why there is so much difference to the final product. It would be great if you could get a preview screen to see what (if any) changes should be made to make your spreads identical to the finished product.

Also, thank you for your suggestion of Lynda.com. It is a very useful online resource.

  • Compare InDesign ePub file

I have a book of 500 pages in InDesign, and I created an ePub out of it. Is there a way I can compare the text of the EPUB with the original InDesign file, as you can compare documents in Word format to see what the differences are. This way I could easily track down the obvious errors in the EPUB, as a missing phrase, which would contribute to the proofreading of the EPUB. If InDesign doesn't have this feature perpaps anyone know about plugin or a third party that could provide this.

I would check both out in the form of plain text and do a diff from the command line, but I am old that way. If you've never cracked open an epub and looked at his insides, now is a good time! It's html and css in there. If the data format is radically different to IDML or InDesign. So what you ask for is not trivial at all.

Are you worried about the artifacts of the process of conversion, or human error? If human error, I would say check plain text on both and comparing with your favorite Document comparison tool of choice.

  • InDesign CC and Fontbook

I'm under InDesign CC on a Mac with OS 10.8.4 and Fontbook. I installed a free police through Fontbook. It was the wrong version by my client, so I removed it. I received a new file of police directly from my client and I installed it in Fontbook. The police seem different from the original but carries the same name. InDesign continues to view the previous version. I don't know how this can happen because I deleted it. Any thoughts? I'm stuck!

Try this: in the font book, right-click of the police and choose "reveal in Finder". This will show the fonts on your disk. Move it from there to, say, your desktop folder. The police should disappear from the font book registration and, ideally, does not show in any program.

Now open your ID file and see if the police is still there. If this is the case, then you have another instance (or instances) of the police in other parts of your computer, probably those used by Adobe, as:

    • YourHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts
    • YourHD/Users/you/Library/Application Support / Adobe / Fonts
    • YourHD/Applications/Adobe InDesign CC/Fonts

Run a search query in your Mac using Spotlight to find them.

Another tip: create a folder called "Document fonts" (with the exact spelling and case) at the same place where you have your InDesign document, and then put the correct font within this folder. Close the document (if it is open) and open it again. The police will appear in a different section (called a "Single Document") of your fonts menu. By using this method, you will be sure to use the right font, even if the "average," it insists to remain in your computer for some reason any :-)
