Enter the keyboard ASCII characters

I have a new Inspiron 15R. His keyboard lacks a number pad. I was used to enter an ASCII character directly from the keyboard by pressing ALT + Fn + 0151, for example, to get a dashboard m on the screen. This laptop lacks a number pad. Then, on how to enter ASCII characters directly?

AutoHotkey is promising. I'll give it a try. Also, after some poking around in Outlook, I found the key to the symbols. He has a couple of symbols in double for the dash and the dash m and is located next to the symbols in the character array. For example, pressing Alt + X on 2012, you get a character exactly as a dash. The code for the dashboard m is 2015, Alt + X. thanks, everyone.

I bought a new computer. When I try to send an e-mail to multiple recipients, now, I get this message: "there are non-ASCII characters in the local part of the address of the recipient. It is not yet supported. If please change this address and try again. "I don't know what are the non-ASCII characters, so I don't know what to do. I never had this problem on my old computer. Please explain in simple language.

The 'local' part in the context of email addresses, the part to the left of the symbol @. The warning is a bit of a surprise, because in general the owner of a mail server is relatively free to specify the address format. There is a movement to allow the games to other characters to be used in the fields, so I'm a little disappointed to see that, apparently, e-mail does not support the latter in the local part yet or it can be your SMTP server that generates this message.

ASCII characters ("American Standard Code for Information Interchange") are, on the whole, the English alphabet, uppercase and lowercase, as well as figures, common punctuation and case of things like the asterisks, obliques and media bars, but not of accented characters. But even apparently simple things like spaces and dashes have cousins who, at first glance, appear to be identical, but are not represented in the ASCII system. I am thinking especially nonbreaking spaces, dash and half-quadratin.

But I don't know why your new computer must have caused these warnings.

Inserting characters ACII always depends on the software you use.

_For example_ in Microsoft Word to insert ASCII characters, you need to press on and hold the ALT key while typing the character code.

    * NOTE: * you must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers and not the keyboard.
Make sure that the Numlock key is on if your keyboard requires to type numbers on the numeric keypad.

How do I enter ASCII characters on my dell inspiron 1420

To insert an ASCII character, press and hold the ALT key while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree (°) symbol, press on and hold ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.

Note: You must use the numeric keypad to type numbers and not the keyboard. Make sure that the Numlock key is on if your keyboard requires to type numbers on the numeric keypad. If you use a laptop you have to press the "fn" + "Numlock" (light Verr Num will be lightup), and then you use the keys that double as numbers (numeric keys) M (0), J (1), K (2), (3), U (4) i.5, O (6), P (.), 7 (7), 8 (8) and 9 (9). Don't forget to disable the 'NumLock' (press fn + NumLock) or the keys will always type the numbers.

  • How to compose utf-8 characters from the keyboard (osx 10.11.4)?

    Hello

In any other non-named operating system, you can press ALT-E28099 enter a utf character.

I've seen instructions on how to do this in an earlier version of Mac OS x, but these instructions do not work.

They tell me in system preferences | Language and text-> then a way to select UTF, but this possibility is therefore more in the new language and region settings.

When I go to my little flag in the menu box above right, I am not shown UTF - 8 as a possibility.

    Help!

    Thank you!!!

OS X does not use utf - 8 for entry.  Normally, you would use the character Viewer (Edit > Emoji and symbols) for the input characters that are not already included in the layout of the keyboard via the option and option more shift.  It has an option to display all Unicode characters.

If you really want to enter special characters through numbers, you can go to the sources of the system/preferences/keyboard and activate the Unicode Hex keyboard configuration.  You can integrate any character by holding down the option key and typing sound 4-digit (or 8 digits for those outside the BMP) hexadecimal Unicode number.  e28099 is 2019 in hexadecimal.  It's the curly apostrophe which can also be made directly from the US keyboard via the shift option]

  • How to DISABLE the keyboard entry Alt + NUMPAD digital ASCII.

    Hello

The default behavior of Windows 7 (and as far as I know all the previous versions) is to enter the ASCII codes to the ALT keyboard + keypad. For example, Alt + 230 will produce "µ". If NUMLOCK is turned on or not makes no difference. In addition, this applies only to the NUMERIC keypad, not the 'normal' arrows

This behavior interferes with an app I use (specifically, both the application and Windows seem to react to the keystrokes, which is annoying).

Does anyone know how to disable this method of entry completely?

    Thank you

I don't think that there is a way, I'm sorry.  AFAIK this is the keyboard itself sends ASCII of Alt and number codes.  http://Twitter.com/graymalkinsblog http://practicalhardware.blogspot.com/

  • Dell laptop "on the keyboard of the screen" NUM LOCK - typing Unicode ASCII does not

We use passwords that require the inclusion of the ASCII Unicode for connections.  In the past, computers Dell laptops with Windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) using the keyboard (OSK) screen provided us the ability to ASCII Unicode using the numeric keypad and the combination of the Alt key and the numeric value of type.  However, the new Dell laptop computer running Windows 7 that have the ability to access the OSK to connection but the Alt + Unicode does not work.  What is the reference for this?

    Hello Alberto,.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you.

I understand that you are unable to type ASCII Unicode characters via the keypad on the new Dell laptop. After having past the post and check online this seems to be a question of character that is specific to mapping laptop manufacturers. Different laptop have different character mapping.

I would like that you press 'key Fn + Ctrl key + key LShift' simultaneously to enable and disable the entry of special characters.

Based on the combination above does not help, I would ask you to contact Dell Support for more information on the mapping of characters to the new laptop. Dell support will also be able to provide you with the exact combination, you will need to type the ASCII Unicode characters.

You can also post the query on the Dell Forums:
