Satellite NB10-A-10V - how to enter ASCII characters

Hello!

How can I enter ASCII characters, using the digital codes, with this little computer keyboard, please?

I tried several combinations, using the "FN", overlay and the keys 'ALT', without success.
What is the solution? The user guide is no help.

In particular, I would like to enter the character "ß" (Alt + 0223 or Alt + 225).
I don't want to use the table of Windows 8 characters.

Can someone please help?

Thank you very much

Inserting characters ACII always depends on the software you use.

_For example_ in Microsoft Word to insert ASCII characters, you need to press on and hold the ALT key while typing the character code.

* NOTE: * you must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers and not the keyboard.
Make sure that the Numlock key is on if your keyboard requires to type numbers on the numeric keypad.

    Hello

I just bought a new computer toshiba laptop satellite NB10-A-10V but I hate windows 8.1 and I tried to install ubuntu 14.04.

Now when I start my laptop replaced black screen toshiba logo and any key worked (F12, delete, escape)
So, how can I manage this problem? Why, toshiba does not or blocked an OS other than windows 8.1?
I called support and they told me that it is 70 euros for it. It's almost a flight!

So I think it's a good laptop and I just want to use it with ubuntu, I don't see where is the problem.

Otherwise I'll fix it in a store of this kind of question, and I will never buy another toshiba in my future.

So, if you can find a solution (for free, 300 euros already for the laptop 4 days ago only.) it will be very cool

    Thank you

    Hello

Usually after the purchase of a new product, new owner should read paper textbooks s user initially. It is described that original preinstalled recovery image (original version of Windows) is saved on the HARD drive, and each new owner, before you start to do some experiments or install anything else should create recovery media. It can be DVD or USB, depending on the model of the machine.
    You created the recovery media?

Very important, is that Toshiba does not support Linux, but in general, you can do with your machine all you want. No you don't have to use the version preinstalled Windows. Many people use Win7 or Linux on various models of Toshiba. Due to this Toshiba has created the separate category of Linux on this forum where you can exchange information and experience with other users of the forum.

I must also say that you are mistaken if you think that Toshiba is blocking something. That s certainly wrong. When you stop preinstalled Win8 completely, you will be able to enter the BIOS settings and change the MODE to BOOT. After doing this, you can install anything you want.

More info on what you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm

For more questions on Linux on Toshiba laptops I recommend you to visit category Linux SOFTWARE and OPERATING SYSTEM.

  • How do I enter ASCII characters?

How do I enter ASCII characters on my dell inspiron 1420

To insert an ASCII character, press and hold the ALT key while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree (°) symbol, press on and hold ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.

Note: You must use the numeric keypad to type numbers and not the keyboard. Make sure that the Numlock key is on if your keyboard requires to type numbers on the numeric keypad. If you use a laptop you have to press the "fn" + "Numlock" (light Verr Num will be lightup), and then you use the keys that double as numbers (numeric keys) M (0), J (1), K (2), (3), U (4) i.5, O (6), P (.), 7 (7), 8 (8) and 9 (9). Don't forget to disable the 'NumLock' (press fn + NumLock) or the keys will always type the numbers.

If you create a file in Notepad, select the ANSI or the encoding UTF-8 in the dialog box save as.  Copy the Linux file in binary mode. Set the variable NLS_LANG ".» WE8MSWIN1252 ", if the file was saved with the ANSI coding or to. AL32UTF8", if the file was saved with UTF-8 encoding. Be sure to export the variable.  Then, start SQL * more and run the script.  I guess that you are on a U.S. or Western Europe of Windows version.

  • Satellite NB10-A-10V: unknown device after installing Win 7

    Hello forum,.

    I have installed Win7 in my brand-new NB10-A-10V.
This was made possible thanks to BIOS 1.60.

I can say that everything works OK and have found all the familiar features and behaviors provided by Win7.
But the Win7 installation is not perfect yet; There is a missing driver, as reported by the Device Manager:

    * ! * Coding/decoding +(sorry my Win7 is the French version) PCI controller +.

    His ID is PCI VEN_8086 & DEV_0F1

I do not know what is controlled here, since as I said I did not notice a problem with my NB10 or Win7.

Can someone tell me what is this + controller +? And just for the sake of pleasing the Device Manager, can someone point me to the missing driver?

    All the best, Matitic

According to the PCI database http://www.pcidatabase.com/ news
The ID of FRI (seller) means 8086 and ID DEV (device) appears to be related to the chipset driver or USB driver

Both are on the page of the Toshiba UE driver

  • Enter the keyboard ASCII characters

I have a new Inspiron 15R. His keyboard lacks a number pad. I was used to enter an ASCII character directly from the keyboard by pressing ALT + Fn + 0151, for example, to get a dashboard m on the screen. This laptop lacks a number pad. Then, on how to enter ASCII characters directly?

AutoHotkey is promising. I'll give it a try. Also, after some poking around in Outlook, I found the key to the symbols. He has a couple of symbols in double for the dash and the dash m and is located next to the symbols in the character array. For example, pressing Alt + X on 2012, you get a character exactly as a dash. The code for the dashboard m is 2015, Alt + X. thanks, everyone.

  • Satellite T135 how to enter Safe Mode and HDD Recovery if 'F8' does not work

    Hello everyone

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite T135 and it crashed recently. Since then, whenever I turn it on, startup repair is enabled automatically. But it does not fix the error.
I tried to solve the problem with the system restore, but that no longer works. So I think I have to go through the procedure of HARD drive recovery.

The problem is that I have a lot of data on my laptop that I must first of all safe. I wanted to do it via Safe Mode that supposedly, I should be able to enter by pressing "F8" at initialization, when the Windows logo appears. But my laptop is not responding when I press F8, but rather getting a sound alert, if I press the button for a long time.

Apart from how to enter safe mode by pressing F8 during initialization does not work, I have a second question: Toshiba Recovery Wizard is the equivalent for the HDD recovery procedure? It is the only similar option that I could find...

Thank you very much for your advice.

    Hello

The recovery of HARD drive installs the image of Toshiba.
The image is the package that contains the operating system, drivers and all the tools that have been installed on the first day of purchase; simply said; using HARD drive recovery you would set the laptop back to factory settings.

You want to save the date before you install the operating system once more?
Well, remove the HARD drive, put this in a USB HDD enclosure and move the file to the HARD drive to another computer.
It would be the best way to get the file save.

I think you have a Toshiba BIOS.
In this case you must press the ESC key immediately after the laptop has been powered. Try to press the button several times

By the way; You can also use the F12 key to get the boot menu.
Then you could easily choose your boot device
    This also works
