ENVY 17-K241NO: hardware upgrade on ENVY 17-K241NO

Hi, I have an ENVY 17 - K241NO. I want to update my WIRELESS card and have an extra HARD drive.

I'd like to update my current WIFI card (BCM43142 802. 11 b/g/n) Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 more Bluetooth. I don't know how to check if this improvement would be possible?

And I saw that some ENVY 17, may have a second HDD. Can my ENVY 17-K241NO cause a second HDD? Because I have two samsung 850 EVO in a raid 0 configuration.

Thanks in advance

Please see the "Maintenance and Service" Guides on http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-17-k200-Notebook-PC-series/7527536/model/7769455/manuals for the most comprehensive information on your issues. These guides seem to indicate that you can replace the WiFi card with processors Intel 7260 + BT, but it can be difficult to do. With respect to the 2nd HARD drive, there is no clear indication of your model to have 1 or 2 bays for HARD drives and disassembly will be required.

    Hello

Two things, you will not be able to upgrade: display the card and wireless network card.

    (a) graphics card: we cannot spend more than 90% of laptops, including yours,

    (b) wireless network adapter: your machine was built before the mid-2014, the whitelist prevents you to upgrade the wireless card.

Now, you have 2 items to upgrade (maybe 3): hard drive and the processor (CPU) (and maybe RAM)

    (a) HARD drive: any 2.5 "HDD or even SSDS with 9.5 mm or less. SSD is more expensive but faster. HHD, please select the one that has RPM faster (7200 RPM), large cache (more is better). They are numerous on the following list including SSD:

    Hello Florin

Tecra S3 is old enough laptop model, and expect too much with upgrades, especially with the CPU. Of way General CPU cannot be upgraded and perhaps should not be upgraded. Each laptop model has a specific design and cooling modules are optimized for the specific hardware platform.

    1. so, for you it is important to have the laptop stable without damaging the hardware. Okay, just for the record
    Tecra S3 comes with separate Intel Mobile Pentium-M processors - [1.73GHz/1.86GHz/2.0AGHz (0.748-1.356V)/2.13GHz (0, 748 - 1.372V))]
    [/ 2.26 GHz (0, 748 - 1.404V)] and these processors operate at 533 MHz bus clock.
Update CPU not is also not supported if forget it. The CPU you have inside is powerful enough. What you need is more RAM and perfectly configured and optimized operating system.

2 RAM can be upgraded up to 2 GB and it is not the problem. You can use 2 x 1 GB RAM DDR2-400/533 1 GB (PA3411U-1M1G).
This RAM is tested and works perfectly with your Tecra S3 of will be.

3 disk HARD upgrade is also not problematic. Tecra S3 uses SATA HDD and you can improve it with more than 120 GB. I'm 100% sure that you can use 160 GB with no problems.
In my opinion, that's good enough. Isn t it? ;)

    4. optimize the operating system. Disable all unnecessary background processes and your Tecra will be working perfectly.

    >.. .i don't know where I can make these upgrades.
Do it alone. It is not so complicated. If you need help let us know.

I have 14 VM to upgrade all the 2003 win. All have the latest tool installed 4.1

Is there a there has been has I should look for before I start to put it off?

before upgrade you the virtual hardware, you must upgrade the comment of VMware tools.  In an engine, the customer is off State, you can upgrade the virtual hardware.  From there on, turn on the prompt, login, let windows find all new device drivers and then restart again.  Here you connect and remove all devices shaded in Device Manager... Usually, restart us once more after that.

With regard to the witch hunt.  If you are concerned, you can always snapshot the prior comments to the upgrade and if there are problems, return back.

  • ESXi host and VM hardware upgrades

    Hi all

I pretty well know the answer to these questions (I like to read manuals), but I just wanted a few reassuring those who have ventured in front me.

1 / when the upgrade to ESXi hosts of 3.5 to 4.0, it is my understanding that there is no real emergency in the upgrade of the host of the virtual computer (tools and hardware to version 7) as vSphere 4.0 will run happily with the older virtual machine (but without the new features).  However, I am wondering if anyone has experienced problems do not upgrade the machine virtual shortly after the upgrade of the host.  My intention is to do it very shortly after, but sometimes the best-laid plans go out the window in my role, so I'd feel comfortable if I new I could run the old VM indefinitely without any problem.

2 / how 'security' is upgraded version of the VM from 4 to 7 material?  VMware I don't expect any problems, but I would like to know if anyone has experienced problems that can cause interruptions of service extended to the VM guest.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve.

    1. I would separate between VMware tools and hardware upgrade. New tools not only to upgrade virtual hardware drivers, they also inflating to update and other features VMware uses to communicate with the guest operating system. In my opinion, you should pass the VMware tools as soon as possible. I can't say for sure if you have any questions without upgrading. My personal opinion/experience, is that during the "normal" old tools will.

The hardware upgrade should not too important. In environments with hundreds of guests, you will actually have to update all hosts (in a cluster) material in order not to lose the capacity of invited guests 3.5 vMotion.

    2. the only issues I've had so far with the upgrade of the hardware have been networked. I had a few VMs to reconfigure the network manually after the upgrade.

  • Snapshot before VM hardware upgrade?

    Hello people,

I read a lot of conflicting information around it, so thought I would ask here.

We are going to be upgrade to vSphere 4.0 soon and of course will focus on the hardware upgrade of the virtual computer to version 7.

Now, if I take a snapshot before you do the upgrade of HW and it goes pearshaped can I go back to the snapshot and the server will work?

Or is it a one-way change, even with a snapshot in place?

Same Xtravirt, which are usually about money, seems a bit confusing:

    They say:

"When you upgrade virtual hardware version 3 to version 7, the upgrade is irreversible, even if you take a backup of virtual machine or a snapshot before you perform the upgrade.

Then later in the same article:

"using snapshots will give you the opportunity to come back if there is a problem."

    Thanks in advance.

HW version 3 refers to the VM for instance ESX 2.x (see KB1003746 - versions of virtual machine hardware)

I never upgraded to this version, so I can't say whether this is true or not. However, it is possible to return to a HW version 4 improved virtual computer. VUM proposes explicitly to take a snapshot before upgrading hardware.

  • 15 t K2T39AV envy: envy 15 t Touch Hardware Upgrade

A week ago I had just received my laptop touch HP Envy 15t, and someone in my family gave me a Samsung 850 EVO Sata3 ssd.

I undestand that if I open my laptop might void the warranty, is possible that I can get this installed without having to carry it out? I tried calling 3 people with "HP Certified" companies, but this directory is so ridiculously the outdated that none of the numbers worked.

Also, I noticed that this laptop is UNI-ish. Which makes it harder?

I also had the backlit keyboard, and many keys sporadically do not work unless I press extra hard. Is there a way to increase the sensitivity on this thing?

    Hello

    Your manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04510889

    It's your laptop: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/model/7757377/manuals

To replace the HARD drive, you can contact HP in your area: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/product/HP-ENVY-15-k200-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/model/7757377

Usually service center technicians would be able to do for your possibly free if you're under warranty, but it depends on how the service center who take up.

My HP Pavilion 15 HARD drive not was not customer accessible like yours, and HP guys helped me to go free, and I was under warranty.

See Page 63, 64 in your manual. It is not a DIY thing. You have to do a major disassembly to get out the replacement HARD drive. It will void the warranty if something unforeseen occurs following update yourself. So I'll try to contact HP directly to it.

About the keyboard, try to reload the default BIOS:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00034791

    Troubleshoot yourself keyboard first:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03738933

If nothing works, updating the BIOS:

Be very particular and follow the steps listed in the above document so that the update of BIOS, as if goes wrong it can brick your system down.

    Hello

I just wanted to know if there are restrictions on the upgrade of my 600w PSU and my graphics card for a GTX 980. I've been looking around and see some messages on Web sites saying that some HP computers are not extensible or use special connectors for their motherboards. Currently, I have a HP mother 2AF7. 1. HARD drive: is there a maximum or something else?
2 DVD: is it possible to replace the CD on a dvd player? How can I remove the cd player?

    Hello

This unit is an oldie. It s about 7 years and as far as I know it has been bundled with a 4 GB HARD drive.
Unfortunately I put t believe that more HARD drive be recognized on this laptop.
The series XCDT supports 4GB max and XDVD series supports hard drives 6 GB.
Xdvd models were shipped with a DVD - rom drive and these models have been supported: SD-C2102 and SD-C2202
In addition, it is not possible to upgrade the processor.

  • A few questions regarding the hardware upgrade and the games on Satellite Pro 2100

    Hey,.

I thought that posting this here because it's more about the lines for the games I could think on another topic.

I'll get to the point... Basically, I bought a laptop from a guy that my friend knew. He barely used this laptop and didn't know anything about computers, and he tried to avoid as much as possible. So he got rid of this laptop for me for real cheap.

Now I got it, I had expected either of two things with the laptop.

    (1) what I'll use it so I can sit in his bed and travel a little bit while having files, movies, music and internet access. (it wasn't my main idea)

    Or

    (2) it allows to play video games on it, or to update, so I have a better chance to do so.

I was hoping to get for video games, mainly for my brother to use because his computer is lagging a lot while playing world of Warcraft. I was hoping that this notebook would give him a better experience for a while.

But as I was installing the game on this, I noticed that the disk space is low, so I'm going to buy an external hard drive, so I can send files between the PC and the laptop, and I got an error message saying that the RAM was under "minimum requirements" for WoW.

So I know that I got to level it with something big, but I know not what, so I'm not quite sure that this laptop will run the game at a decent rate. So I thought that I turn to a computer forum and ask.

    It's my laptop;
    [Satellite Pro 2100 PS210E | http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&BV_UseBVCook = Yes & PRODUCT_ID = 45659 ie]

This laptop will do the job don't you think?
Or it will be better for simpler things, or less if I had the ram to 1gig?

I don't know much on the laptop, and I'm not really willing to spend too much on fixing, if it's just a change of the ram, then it wouldn't cost much for than to upgrade around 1gig.

    Hello

First of all, I must say that this notebook belongs to an older series laptop.
It was equipped with the 1.8 Celeron CPU, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB or 30 GB HARD drive and a 16MB graphics card internal.

What you can do is upgrade the RAM up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB) and the HARD drive. But I think that the maximum size of HARD drive that would be recognized by the BIOS is 120 GB.
I think that the laptop supports one IDE controller and it limited because of the 28-bit LBA HARD drive size.

So finally, it is important to mention that you can not pass the graphics card because it s soldered onto the motherboard. Upgrading the CPU is not possible or very difficult.

I come to the conclusion that you will not be able to play games of new generation on this machine. The hardware specs are maybe too low a few simple games would run on this laptop but I'm sure that other newer games will not run smoothly.

    Welcome them

  • Re: Satellite L505-13W - hardware upgrade

    Hi all

    I specified model
    http://www.Toshiba.EU/discontinued-products/satellite-L505-13W/

and I want to use the design program rhino3d v5.

Minimum specifications of the program can be found here:
    http://www.simplyrhino.co.UK/rhinotraining/hardware.html

The practical system minimum requirements are:

Intel Core i5 Quad Core AMD 4400 equivalent or
    8 GB RAM
    500 GB HD
    Open GL graphics card
    Windows 7 64 bit

Are there opportunities that I can upgrade my laptop to be able to use the program (ram, ssd, the graphics card)

    or is it a laptop?

You can upgrade the RAM and HARD drive. Upgrading CPU is delicate and not supported by the laptop manufacturers. Graphics card can not be upgraded.

    Satellite L505-13W was equipped with an Intel Core i5 - 430 M 2.26 GHz (2 cores) processor
You can also upgrade the RAM up to 8 GB of RAM and the HARD drive can be also updated to your preferred size.

Minimum requirements of the system suggested practices are very similar to the laptop hardware specifications, and I think that after the upgrade of RAM, you should be able to run the application.

Not much upgrade to make. You have the processor i7 - 720 M, which is I think the second best processor that will fit in your motherboard. It seems that you have 8 GB of RAM, which is the maximum. The only upgrade I think that may be possible and worth is to replace the hard drive with an SSD. Boot time and application launch time will be improved enormously, but things like the game or whatever it is UC will not help much.

Your laptop is not very old, but just old enough for some really cool as recent developments USB 3.0 date back to front. A concert 256 SSD will cost $129 may be where a new laptop with very strong specifications will cost $800-1500.

In order to give the best advice, I would need to know exactly what you're doing with your laptop and also what you think you can do 2-3 years. If you use it just for internet and e-mail, as well as office, I say make the SSD. If you want to play demanding games or editing videos or to compile the Code, I say, get a new laptop.

    Hello

Upgrade of RAM and HARD drive is possible, but some hardware components such as processor or graphics card upgrade is not possible. As said CAMP Max RAM for your unit is 1 GB. The RAM module must be PC2100 DDR - RAM.

Unfortunately, there is no specific information that HDD is the right one for you, but I'm sure that 60 GB HARD drive will fit your laptop. Please Google a bit and you will find a large number of sellers of HARD drive.
