  I did format all HARD disks because of Mayor virus problems.

  I noticed that some of the keys are on different locations like on a Dutch keyboard.

  The point is that you have installed windows OS in the language of the Netherlands, but the laptop uses the UK keyboard layout.
  Therefore, change to a different language keyboard layout if the keyboard is set to the language of the Netherlands, then you should change this to English UK!

  Go to control panel-> regional and Language Options-> languages-> text services and input languages tab, click details

  There you can add or change the language

  HARD drive: 40 GB hard drive
  Memory: 1 024 (512 + 512) MB of RAM DDR2 2 x Samsung 512 MB 2Rx16 PC2-4200 s-444-12-A3 KR M470T6554CZ3 - C05

  Yes. It is possible to upgrade your Equium up to 2 GB, but you must use compatible memory modules.

  Well. Everyone knows that a HARD disk problem can happen and all of a sudden you may lose all the data stored on the HARD drive.
  That is why it s always recommended to backup the data on additional HDD, DVD, etc.

  I'm not sure if this will help but try this:
  Try to boot from the disk Win XP (NOT the Toshiba Recovery disk) and press r. means repair and should start the repair console.
  The similar DOS window should open and there, you can use a command:
  CHKDSK drive/p/r

  The chkdsk command checks the specified drive and repairs or recovers the drive if the drive requires it.

  If that does not help, then you need to reinstall new OS.

  I have a Tosh Equium A100 - 549 (PSAA4E). It's getting a little old now, but still a good machine, I've read various reports on what is max memory to this laptop.

  I bought 2 x 2 GB 200 pin SODIMM PC2-5300 (667), but when I install the laptop does not start. I get the power and keyboard LED and the fan but not the screen output.

  If I mix a former modules with a new 2 GB 512 MB (in order any Bank) then the laptop works, even if I get only 1.87 GB display in XP Home Ed.

  Took me to update to the latest version of the BIOS but still the same thing.

  Is it more a case of 2 GB not supported or is it the speed? I need 2 x 2 GB PC2 - 4200?

  the machine does not support the def. more than 2 GB of RAM. You must use no to 667 and 533 Mhz modules.

• Equium A100-549: DVD & CD playback is slow and jerky

  DVD and CD playback is jerky and slow (sound and image). This problem occurred out of the blue! One day was playing very well and the next, when we tried to play a DVD is a different problem. I put the other DVD that plays very well the night before, but without success - it wasn't the DVD in particular. I tried the audio CD I played before and to my disappointment the same problem. I ripped a CD on my laptop and it played very well - it is not the sound card. I used a lens cleaner, but it did not work.

  I run Toshiba Diagnostics, no problem. I even scanned the HD and defrag, nothing - so I doubt there is a problem with Windows. Problem with two media players, windows one and the Nero one - is not due to lack of players. I drop the phone or hit him or spilled something on it.   Resource conflict - PCI on motherboard network controller
  Bus: 02, device: 04, function: 00

  Press F1 to load the default values, F2 for Setup

  F1 just a loop to the same message, F2 brings up the configuration screens, but I see nothing here to fix this problem.

  There have not been any addition of material to the machine because it is out of the box from Toshiba.

  Any suggestions to get around this problem?

  I put t know what you did with your Equium and I advise you to install the OS by using recovery media delivered. After having this device will be updated again plant and equipment will be configured correctly.

  If the problem persists I would recommend you contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner and let check the device.

  where did you bought it? On Ebay? If Yes, then you must contact the person who sold you the unit. If you don't have any chance to get this collection, you should communicate with a
  ASP local in order to get a recovery.
  If Don t you want to get a recovery, and you have a genuine copy of Windows that hang out, then install, download the appropriate drivers for that machine on toshiba website and install
  them afterwards that you have windows installed.

  In my opinion, you need the HARD drive with Serial ATA interface and you can use 40/60/80/100/120 GB hard drives.

  My A100-549 is 4 months old and worked fine. today when I started it, I got the message "a disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + delete to restart»

  When I do cela the computer tries to start, but I got the error again. I've considered using the product recovery disc, but I just got the same error message!

  I just reinstalled Xp and all the utilities on my laptop but, the original wallpaper from Toshiba is missing.
  Can someone help please, I would like to put it back exactly as it was before I wiped the HD.
  (I would have saved them the disk in the first place.)

  It's strange because the Toshiba wallpapers must appear after installation from the Toshiba Recovery CD.
  The recovery CD sets the laptop to factory settings and all Toshiba laptops have been delivered with the Toshiba wallpapers.

• Wireless network does not work properly on Equium A100-549

  I've tried so far with/without WPA PSK TKIP, WEP, OPEN, dynamic and static address, ipconfig/all configure TCP/IP manually and automatically updated drivers, all windows updates. I also tried with or without mac filtering.

  I install a good USB dongle known and tried all the foregoing the same I can instantly find the network cut and paste the password or type it in, it find instantly and the other around the street, but could not connect wireless connections, the icon in the task bar permanently a red x.

  If I can connect to the network I can put everything up. I have an XP, Office XP laptop and Vista DESKTOP base everything on laptop wireless WIFI on board, to an office on a dongle and the other with a PCI x 16 WI - FI card. on the laptop problem when you right-click the icon under display all connections, the status option is also low lit (can not select).
  It's like the driver is bad even if tosiba website says it's the right one to download when you fill out the form online, when you are looking there Web site for pilots.
  It's really annoying.

  Satellite A100-549 PSAA4E was delivered with Atheros 11 b/g wireless network card.
  In this case the Atheros WLan client utility should be preinstalled on this OS.
  I advise to use this tool to configure WLan settings.

  In addition the wireless network card has been configured and set WLan channel 11. Please check if your router has been also on channel 11!

  I assume you are using the image of preinstalled Toshiba.
  This image contains the right WLan driver and usually the new installation is not necessary but if you are lloking for the new WLan driver I would recommend take a look here on this Toshiba WLan Center Portal:

• Need for a disk recovery for Equium A100-549

  Recently, I tried to restore my laptop to its factory settings. However, the recovery cd stopped working after it has begun to wipe my hard drive and does not complete the task. I don't think that the cd will work more. My computer now with no operating system and is stuck in limbo, the only way it will work is if the recovery is completed all the way, but I need a new CD.

  If you have the European model for laptop, you will not be able to get the restore disc in the Canada.
  In my opinion the easiest solution for you is to get Microsoft WXP installation disc and install the operating system on your own. Windows XP Home edition is more so expensive.

  Buy Windows XP edition family (SP2) installation disk, install it and then download and install all the necessary drivers and all the other stuff of Toshiba. Everything you need you can find on the download page of Toshiba under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
