Equium A100-549 - reading disc error occurred press ctrl + alt + delete to restart

Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Equium a100-549, about 3 years, Windows XP Home Edition.
Everything worked very well so far. When starting my computer, I received the message:

A disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + delete
I don't want to lose my data

Please please I need some advice what to do

Kind regards
AGM

> I don't want to lose my data

Well. Everyone knows that a HARD disk problem can happen and all of a sudden you may lose all the data stored on the HARD drive.
That is why it s always recommended to backup the data on additional HDD, DVD, etc.

I'm not sure if this will help but try this:
Try to boot from the disk Win XP (NOT the Toshiba Recovery disk) and press r. means repair and should start the repair console.
The similar DOS window should open and there, you can use a command:
CHKDSK drive/p/r

The chkdsk command checks the specified drive and repairs or recovers the drive if the drive requires it.

More details can be found here:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314058

If that does not help, then you need to reinstall new OS.

A disk read error is normally an indication of a failure of hard disk that requires a replacement of the hard disk with a new one.

I recommend that you buy a USB usb HP recovery media to restore the operating system of your PC to its previous state useful when you replace the hard drive. You will need an office a SATA hard drive no more than 2.2 terabytes. The storage capacity of the original hard drive was 750 GB. This title is so much easier to find in stores or online websites.

You should have a support of recovery recovery drive series four years ago, when you set up the PC. The initial configuration for the PC software asked one who walks it if they were ready to make a record of retrieving the value.

It is possible that your hard drive is damaged. You can download Windows recovery disk (if you haven't) and run Startup Repair this one.

    Hello

You try to install Windows XP on the computer?

BootMGR is not part of Windows XP. This is the file of boot loader for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    Method 1:

If you try to install Windows XP, you can go ahead and try to reinstall Windows XP from the CD and check if that helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/978307

Note: perform a clean install only if you have no data on the hard drive.

    Method 2:

See the article and check if that helps:

After a recent (12/08/11) update of Microsoft, I now get a message that says: NTLDR is compressed, press ctrl, alt, delete to restart.  That only brings back me to the same screen.  I was using Windows XP, SP3, before the crash.  I can't to anything other than this screen.  ANY IDEAS?  Buy a MAC maybe?

Thanks for the reply. Now all I have to do is to reload all the programs that were previously installed.

Try these free diagnostics, bootable (if it is able to boot from a disk): http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html

Thanks, actually I think that the problem was the result of using a back_up disc. I found an old original load XP and it worked fine the only problem now is the 8 or 9 hours of reloading updates up-to-date, service packs and other software.
