error 0x800106ba, uninstalled norton, now advocate does not work

Vista 32 srvc pk 2. Subscription Norton missed. Uninstall tool Norton ran. Now the Defender gives error message ox800106ba. When I went in administrative tools and tried to open it manually, it says this, after clicking on start "Windows defender service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically when they are not in use by other services and programs. ».

I read forums all day but can't seem to find it exactly.  Defender comes preinstalled with Vista on my Toshiba, so I can't uninstall it.  I went to download defender on the Microsoft site, but it says I already have the Defender.

Any ideas how to get Defender running? I can't find any Norton files when I search. I would appreciate help.

Please, to be on the safe side, run the reomval tool, let, to ensure that none of the 'remains' of Norton components in the system.

2. What do you use to replace Norton ?
If you have more, it stops Windows Defender also. This is because they have their own advocates. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.
Here is the list of programs which will stop Windows Defender:
McAfee
AVG
Microsoft Security Essentials

3. If you do not have all of the above, here is how to restart Windows Defender:

Start button > in the search box, type Services> press the Enter key > scroll to find Windows Defender, click on it >...

under Startup Type, it must be said... Automatic
If it does not say that, right click on Windows Defender > click Properties >
in Startup Type, click on the pointer to the right and select automatic

    Here is how I fixed it:

    Go to control panel > network and Internet > network sharing Center

    Click on "Change adapter settings" in the left pane.

    Right click on your map. Select "Properties".

    There will be a box titled "this connection uses the following items."

    Uncheck anything that looks like it was installed by a third party (AVG, Avast, ZoneAlarm). In my case, the culprit was 'HTC NDIS Protocol Driver", who was installed by the software of my phone (HTC). Because it's not obvious what to uncheck, here is what I currently have checked in my system of work which should not cause a problem:

    KEEP THESE CHECKED:

    Client for Microsoft networks
    QoS Packet Scheduler
    File and Printer Sharing
    IP v6
    Internet Protocol v4
    Driver Link-Layer Topology Discovery map IO
    Link-Layer Topology Discovery recall

    Uncheck everything else.

    Go to network and sharing, disable and re-enable the adapter.

    I suggest that you run a troubleshooting utility that might help you to connect wireless online.

    1. click on start.

    2. troubleshooting in the start search type.

    3. click on network and Internet in the Troubleshooting window.

    4. click on the NIC to resolve problems with the wireless connection.

    Check now if you are able to communicate online wireless or not.

    If the problem persists, I suggest you uninstall this particular update which was responsible for programs and features and check.

    Now start the Windows updates once more and check.

    You can try to install the stand-alone package to update manually and check.

    Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
    Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
    This will refresh the default driver stack.
