  Initially, we must ensure that nothing is running in the background that is to stop the process.  A number of questions had to be a response to processes that could be loaded, but this step will help eliminate questions and help us to check more in what layer level, the problem occurs.

  Let's start with a clean boot process, it is sometimes used in a number of troubleshooting steps, but it helps particularly when used in a framework of community forum with the wide spread of programs and services that may be in conflict.

  Here are the steps for cleanboot:

  The steps for the clean boot is from the following article.   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  You can refer to it for the complete overview of how this process works.  Don't forget to put your system back into a normal state after troubleshooting is completed.  Also, keep in mind, after performing the steps below, please indicate any error you receive or information you get when you try to access Outlook.

  Step 1: Perform a clean boot Note if the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

  1. Log the computer by using an account with administrator rights.
  2. Click Start
     

     type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

     

     If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

  3. On the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)
  4. Under the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

     Note following this step lets Microsoft services continue to operate. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

  5. Click OK and then click on restart.

  Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the automatic updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
  Click Start, run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

  net stop wuauserv
  net stop bits
  output
  Rename the Catroot2 folder.

  Note do not follow this step if you are using Microsoft Windows 2000.

  To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:
  Click Start, run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

  net stop cryptsvc
  Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
  net start cryptsvc

  Important do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.
  Rename the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution":
  Click Start, click Run, type %any, and then click OK.
  Right-click the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
  Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

  Save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update. To do this, follow these steps:
  Click Start, run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  At the command prompt, type the following commands, press ENTER after each command, and then click OK every time that you receive a verification message:
  regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
  regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
  regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll

  Hello

  Please provide information on the updates are to receive messages in your windows under Windows Updates. Then you can check if these updates are lying to your windows or not from http://support.microsoft.com.

  For now, try the following steps:

  1. Open the Windows services control panel (Control Panerl--> administrative tools)
  2. Stop the Service of Cryptographic Service, Windows Installer of Module Background Intelligent Transfer and services of Windows updates.
  3. Rename the c:\programs Data\microsoft\network downloader.old Downloader
  4. Rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution in c:\Windows SoftwareDistribution.old
  5. Rename the Catroot2 Catroot2.old to c:\Windows\System32
  6. Restart the Service of Cryptographic Service, Windows Installer of Module Background Intelligent Transfer and services of Windows updates.
  7. Look for the updates.

  You can also try running the FixIt of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.

  Method 1:

   

  Make sure that you connect from an account with administrative rights to complete these steps.

  (a) click Start.

  (b) type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.

  (c) at the command prompt, type "net stop wuauserv" without the quotes and press ENTER.

  (d) type "rmdir /s % windir%\softwaredistribution\wuredir" without the quotes and press ENTER.

  (e) when you get the prompt, 'are you sure (Y/N)?"type Y.

  (f) type net start wuauserv, and then press ENTER.

  (g) try to install updates again.

  To read the file CBS, the simplest method is to copy to another destination. Windows 'locks' the file as any event that must be written to the file CBS is done so during the normal process of Windows and if you play the file, it could cause a conflict. After copying the file to another location, it will open without any other change to the authorisation.

  Regarding damaged/corrupted files try to find who they are and then check to see if they can be repaired manually.
