Error code 8E5E0147, impossible to get Windows Update to work

When I try to download windows updates I get the following error code: "8e5e0147" and none of the updates will be installed. I now like 15 important updates.

I already searched this forum and other forums of solutions, but none of those I've tried seems to fix the problem. That's what I tried:

  • Disabled Antivirus and firewall software
  • Tried to install updates and
  • Manually install the updates by microsoft download. This give me an error code, just "failed to install".
  • Run a checkdisk, no errors.
I would be really happy for more information, which will solve this problem for me. It is very annoying. It is the system that I use if that would be any help:
HP Pavilion dv 7 laptop
Windows 7 Edition Home Premium x 64
Intel Core i7

Norton and McAfee applications are notorious for not to uninstall (or upgraded) themselves.

1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3. click right on the file saved in # 1 above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

4. click right on the file saved in # 1 b above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot again.

5 reset IE8 settings advanced by http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings [trust me]

6. open IE8 32 bit (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run it in DEFAULT and modes difficulty then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

7 restart once again & test.

Note: Make sure you can update MSE manually. If you can not, you have a bigger problem on your hands.

[1] full Disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but not list the updates installed in Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or installed updates.

  • Impossible to get windows update or microsoft update to work after the factory restore

I just restored my computer laptop runnung xp sp2 to factory settings and now I cannont get windows update to function (0x8024400A error code) and I can not update microsoft to work (error code 0 x 80240036).  I can access the internet, navigate, dl files etc. just can't get windows updates.  I disabled the firewall and antivirus still cannot operate.  Tried to fix it, SP3, but must for this and I can't seem to install manually.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

Okay, roll up your sleeves! :-)

(For best results, download all the Setup files below before you restore your computer to its factory settings. Files can be downloaded or copied to a USB flash drive).

    Preliminary work:

Download the installation files (only if necessary!) SP2, SP3, IE8 and Avira Antivirus (beforehand). I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of four files:

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2) (Note: you don't need to install SP2 if your home is already SP2 or SP1 even.)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

http://www.Avira.com/en/Avira-Free-Antivirus (for FREE of Avira version)

    1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

    2. turn your PC to its factory settings.

    3. remove the PC-Cillin was COMPLETELY (see above).

    4. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

5 install SP2 (only if necessary!). Restart TWICE.

    6. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.

    8. install anti-virus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

9 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

10 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

    11. reactivate the automatic updates.

  • Cannot get beyond error 0x8024D007 when trying to get Windows Update or Microsoft Update

I tried to get the Windows Update and Microsoft Update on a Windows XP computer as well, but I got the error 0x8024D007 with both.  In view of this error message on your site, I did the registry fix and still no change.

It took me awhile, but I found a solution that worked for me.

    1. Remove Service Pack 3 - if in Control Panel , you do not have an option delete, just Start, run and type: c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

After removing SP3 restart. Now, go to Windows Update and it should load fine. Go ahead and install high priority updates and reboot again.

    2. reinstall Service Pack 3 - it is better to just download the .exe for SP3 file and run it from the machine rather than using Windows Update to download and install. Before you try to run the .exe however, go ahead and avoid the "Access denied" error by typing this command in a command prompt window:

    secedit/configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb/verbose (Pay attention to the spaces)

Now you can reinstall the SP3 and Windows Update should work again. If you get hooked to the last part of the installation which is "Scene cleanup", make sure that you have given him enough time to finish (a few hours) then simply open the the Task Manager and end of the process. Reboot, and you're good to go.

    * This fix also worked on a Server 2003 that had the same problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled SP2 using the same method. It is now up and running and pulling on the updates.

  • Error code 8E5E0147 for installation of windows security updates

Hello. I noticed that no new updates have been installed on my computer (with the exception of all updates for Windows Defender but also the recent Microsoft .NET Framework Service Pack 1 and the .NET Framework family updates). Everything else, like security updates, have failed since January 13, 2009. I saw someone else who has had this problem for 9 months. The error code is 8E5E0147. Wndows update download and try to install the updates. However, once completed, it says "failed". I worry because my computer is not updated for April fool virus. Can I get any help here? I heard people say that maybe I need to ask a Windows installation CD.

Thank you, Martin. The thing is that my .NET and service packs would have to install. Don't forget that my problem was not downloaded from the update, but the installation. I think I found the answer. My Norton Internet security and Antivirus had expired. When I got Windows security updates, I had no program to receive these updates. I renewed my subscription, and everything worked. It has not been easy. However. I had to keep doing updates on Norton security until I received the message "no new updates were found" after that, I got all the new definitions and update of WIndows was allowed to install thanks to the new KB for your help.

  • Error code 652 on Vista sp2 windows update

I get repeated error codes 652 on my computer laptop sp2 from Vista when I try to update windows. Problem just started this week with KB2416473, an update of safety for microsoft.NET framework. I have Registry Easy and tried to scan and clean registry, but this did not help. Can someone help me?

Please use the backups created by "Registry Easy" to restore the registry information that he deleted. And to see what the users of it have to say, please read their comments here -http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/registryeasy.com

If you don't know how to modify the registry manually and then using a registry editor to do is similar to the delivery of a firearm loaded at a 4 year old child.
Bad editing the registry by a registry to suspect "cleaner" can make the system unusable and cause a no start. Your only recourse at this point is a clean reinstall of Vista.

    1. download and Save the .NET Framework installation check tool
    2. read the Guide to the user on the page above and to check the installation of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 by tool
    3. If it cannot be verified as being correctly installed, try to run a repair of programs and features.
Locate the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, click once to highlight, and then click the uninstall/change link and choose the repair option.
    4. If a repair operation has not resolved the improper installation of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, then Uninstall it.
    5. download and Save full .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 package-

6 configure Vista to the boot - How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
7 reboot the system for the State of clean boot and disconnect the internet connection system that's for now.
    8. run dotnetfx35.exe by right clicking it and choosing "run as Administrator". Accept the UAC prompt to allow it to run high.
    9. once .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed, cancel the clean boot procedure, and then restart the system.
    10. once the system has recovered to the normal mode of Windows, reconnect the system to its internet connection.
Allow all updates to install now.
