    Hi txcatsmeow,

    Windows update no longer works if you don't have XP SP3 installed. To check your system service pack level, click on start, run and type "Winver" in the Run dialog box and click on 'OK'.  If your system already has XP SP3 installed, you can try to reset the windows update components using the link below.

    There are prerequisites for the installation of Windows XP SP3. You can find them by reading the link below.

    Success! I am very happy that my Windows Update problem seems to have been resolved.

    I had trouble to select a subset of updates installed. Eventually, I realized that I needed to click on the hyperlink on the screen of Windows Update to be able to choose the individual updates. After that I did

    I was able to determine that the update of kb300061 was the cause of the disorder.

    When I searched online for this problem, I found a site, suggesting that {e7ef96be-969f-414f-97d7-3ddb7b558ccc} registry value must be exported and deleted. I don't know why the export was necessary, even if I exported the registry value on the desktop and then deleted in the registry. My computer worked better after that this problem has been resolved.

    Thank you!

    However, a persistent difficulty, I'm having is that when I press the key Windows of the desktop mode

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Original title: updates will not download which gives the error code Ox643.  Tried all the fixes nothing works
    The good news is that these are NOT updated for Windows. They are simply updated for .NET Framework 1.1.
    If you can not solve this problem, I suggest you uninstall this framework (and all the updates, which can be uninstalled everything first) using Add / Remove programs in Control Panel.
    If you need this particular setting down the road (and you very well might never need!), you can always install it then.
    In the future, only install the critical security updates for WINDOWS. Avoid the optional software and hardware updates, since it is more trouble than they are worth. :-)
