When I select the source of success and the machine then I get a "failed to get hardware information for the selected computer". I tried two different machines. Sorry if this is a duplicate question. I saw him pop - up a couple of times in the past (here, here, here and here, although I suspect there are a lot more there, also sorry that I'm not sure (too much or too little information?) hyperlink label). The general answer is that the log files must be set for a person to have an eye on them.

I have attached the files just in case this is necessary, but I also tried to find a way to do it myself (so I didn't not wasting all the time).

There are several articles (here, here, here, here and I started even wondering about this one).

However, I am not familiar with the work of command line linux/unix (SUDO always puts me on the edge). I don't know why I would need something like PuTTY for a windows application?

  • Problem with New-OSCustomizationSpec during the deployment of a new virtual machine

Hi all, I'm having a problem trying to deploy a VM from a script.  I started with this thread LucD code: https://communities.vmware.com/message/2220479#2220479. I'll start with the Basic code that I use:

    $myCluster = Get-Cluster -Name "Cluster1" | Get-ResourcePool "Test"
    $myTemplate = Get-Template -Name "Win 2008 R2 SP1 Std - Powershell"
    $myDatastoreCluster = Get-DatastoreCluster -Name "DataStoreCluster1"
    $myVM = "Adam12"
    $IP = "10.0.0.1"
    $SubnetMask = "255.255.255.0"
    $Gateway = "10.0.0.254"
    $DNS = "10.0.0.10","10.0.0.11"

    Get-OSCustomizationSpec -Name "Server 2008 R2 Standard - Powershell" | New-OSCustomizationSpec -Name temp -Type NonPersistent
    Get-OSCustomizationSpec -Name temp | Get-OSCustomizationNicMapping | Set-OSCustomizationNicMapping -IpMode UseStaticIP -IpAddress $IP -SubnetMask $SubnetMask -DefaultGateway $Gateway -Dns $DNS

    New-VM -Name $myVM -Location "Folder1" -Template $myTemplate -Datastore $myDatastoreCluster -ResourcePool $myCluster -OSCustomizationSpec temp

Very simple.  Now I can use the New - VM above command directly against the template and the OSCustomizationSpec, and that works just fine (and of course manually provisioning works as well).  However, as soon as I try to make a new one and use the 'temp' specification, the virtual machine never gets to the name change process and I ended up get an error oobe indicating "impossible Windows analyze or process the unattend answer file."  I noticed in the Summary tab in vSphere that the IP address is correct on this basis, but the name of the server never changes the name of the original model.

I stripped down and got out of line 10 above (static IP address setting) and just left it to DHCP and it doesn't have the same way.  Any ideas on what could be the cause?  Everything else works, it puts the virtual machine in the correct folder, the data store right pole and the pole of the right.

As a bonus question: after all what I have read, VM storage profiles are not accessible via PowerCLI.  This changed at all?  It would be good to set the profile in a script instead of having to do it manually after the fact.  Thank you!

    Adam

    Answering my own post here...

Seems that it works if I create the New OsCustomizationSpec with - Type persistent instead of NonPersistent.  I'm on vSphere 5.0 and 5.0 with PowerCLI 5.1 ESXi, if my guess is that those of you who have found this works are on vSphere 5.1.

I'm just starting my big 5.5 update, so I'll re - visit it at that time.  For now, I'll just to create a random variable of 8 characters for the temporary custspec and remove it when the virtual machine is deployed.  Seems to work fine and I can have several builders of VMs at various locations without stepping on each other.

  • Script to create multiple virtual machines model works is not for the network adapter variable

We are working on a script to create multiple virtual machines from a template. The script works fine, but when we try to include commands to set the NIC to a group of specific ports on a dvswitch script errors on. Here's what we have so far. This script (less network variables) works, but we would like to include the network configs in the script as well.

    -------------------

This is the part of the script that configures the network/dvswitch adapter... but does not work properly.

    $myResourcePool = get-ResourcePool-name DQOL

    $dsName = get-Datastore-name "DQOL-DS01.

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

  • The list of virtual machines, data warehouses and the folder name by cluster

Hello!!  I hope someone can help me with a PowerCLI script that can pull the info from the object into a file, txt or csv.  In order to get our environment cleaned before our next year Dr. with MRS, I want a list showing each VM and the data store (s) in that it is the name of the folder in the virtual computers view and models.  We keep our VMs organized by creating folder names that correspond to the application running on the virtual machine.  I mention a SRM than last year because our protected groups matched groups of our table of 3PAR Rcopy.  However, we have added over 200 new virtual machines from this era and the members of my team essentially placed these new virtual machines on the first available data store that had enough free space.  Unfortunately, we are not using storage profiles... it's scheduled for next year.

Information extracted would look like the following:

    ServerName Datastore folder name

    Server1 LUN0 ActiveDirectory

    Server2 LUN0 ActiveDirectory

    Serveur3 LUN1 ActiveDirectory

    Server4 LUN3 Argo

    Server5 LUN7 Argo

    LUN6 Lockbox Server6

    LUN5 Lockbox Server7

    Serveur8 LUN9 Citrix

    etc...

Any help with the extraction of this info from vCenter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Charles

You can redirect the results to a CSV file, for example

    Get-VM |Select Name,@{N="Datastore";E={[string]::Join(',',(Get-Datastore -Id $_.DatastoreIdList | Select -ExpandProperty Name))}},@{N="Folder";E={$_.Folder.Name}} |Export-Csv C:\report.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

  • Virtual MACHINE created on VMWare Workstation for Windows - move to VMWare Workstation for Linux?

I have a bunch of VMs that I built using VMWare Workstation for Windows running on a Win2003 Server 7.1.3. The virtual machine is running Windows XP sp3. Can I move these Ubuntu VM to run under VMWare for Linux, if I buy a license for the current version or any version?

    Thank you

Yes, but with some reservations.  Of course, Windows and Linux use different ways to represent the paths and devices so a few changes to the virtual machine may be necessary.  All that is hard coded in the configuration file .vmx depicting the paths of type Windows and device names must be changed by the GUI settings or manually edit the .vmx config file.  In addition any virtual machine containing snapshots where the parentFileNameHint in the DescriptorFile of disc, so drowned in a monolithicSparse or the first measure not binary snapshot virtual hard drive, which uses a QPF (fully qualified path name), it will have to be changed.  If you are unsure how to do this then I suggest a delete all snapshots before moving on to another system.

A Windows VM that fall under the WPA will in all likelihood have to be reactivated if the host CPU are not in the same class.

If you copy a Windows VM for the delivery of a copy on the source system, that you must have and or get the appropriate number of licenses and or product keys for the copy number you keep.
