  The problem is potentially a result of an incompatible, incorrect environment (%AppData%) as variable shown below:

  Solution:

  1. open the registry editor.  To do this, click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit.exe in the list programs. In the user account control dialog box, click on continue.

  2 go to the following registryHKEY_USERS\ keys. DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

   

  3. the correct and should be the default value forAppData % USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming. To edit the value, double click on Appdata, then change the string in the value data field.

  1. Tower of AUC. Down comes the restrictions - turn it off completely.
  2 restart your computer for the change to take effect.

  I was warned by Windows Update I got Microsoft Office 6 "Major updates" dealing with security to download and install.  I am running Vista Home Premium operating system.

  6 updates are listed here:

  (3) update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 (KB982158)

  Updates download successfully.  It seems that they are installed correctly, 1 first 6, then 2 of 6, etc..   At the end of the process, I get a message that "some updates were not installed."  In fact, none of the 6 were installed.   Then I get an error message:

  Hi... when I tried the link to error code 646 and tried to change the registry for AppData, I received an error message as follows: "changing error value: error writing the contents of the value."  I copied the percharacter as suggested, but it would not allow me to change it.
