Your administrator account can are damaged.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.  If that is the only available Administrator Profile (you need to be an administrator to fix this), enable the Hidden Administrator Account (HAA) using http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords&p=1&tid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055&mid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055.  If you don't remember the password, try nothing because that's probably what you (or seller) did during the installation.  Once that is done, don't forget to disable the HAA to save it in case it is necessary once again and for safety reasons (since people often try to hack into systems using this account).  Do NOT use the HAA as your administrator account because if you lose the only administrator on the system account or it is damaged again, then you're watered.

    Hi jbiwersmith,

    ·         Remember to make changes to the computer, after which the issue started?

    ·         You are connected to a user administrator account?

    Step 1:

Try to run the application as an administrator and check if it helps:

How to enable an application to run once with a full administrator access token in the UAC?

How to mark an application to always require a full administrator (User Account Control) access token?

    Step 2:

Temporarily disable the antivirus software and check if it helps.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes before the show?
    2. is the computer is joined to the domain controller?

You can not start any application on a client computer that is joined to the domain controller. When you try to start this type of application, you receive an error message similar to the following:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

This can also occur if the user account is damaged. If the computer is not connected to a domain controller, try the following steps.
    1. connect to another user account and create a new user account to fix the damaged user account.
For more information about creating a new user account and the fixing corrupt user account, visit this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

I have this same problem as many others but mine is when I try to use a pdf document, such as the filing of a form on the internet or make changes to a pdf form saved on my computer.  I tried the suggestions on other positions, which one off my third-party anti-virus, which is Kaspersky.  None of these things helped my situation.  I always get the message when I click on a field in the pdf document that I should be able to change.  I use Windows 8.  The message that I get whenever I click on the pdf file is: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. May not permissions to access you these items.

Thanks in advance for helping me solve this problem.  I was able to access fields on the PDF under Windows 7 on another computer.

This problem may occur if you do not have permissions for the file or the location of the file, if the file is located on a site that is not accessible at the moment as a network location or an external drive that is not currently connected to the computer or your antivirus software may block the file.

  • Writing files apps get the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. May not be the appropriate permissions for access you the items"error

It only occurs with certain applications. Firefox and steam (the game application), for example.

He regularly happening when trying to download a file with Firefox, regardless of the folder I tried to save the item to. Helped Disabling UAC. Sometimes, even when from time to time, however. I usually just download the file again in the same place, and it works fine.

With steam, it happens 100% of the time when he tries to update. I am trying to troubleshoot with them, but I strongly suspect that there is an underlying problem related to Windows. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

It may be relevant that all my files have the blob (not checked) in the box 'read only '.

There has been no recent changes to my computer.

    I tried:

Creating a user profile. The question persists while the user as well.
Using the attrib command from the command prompt to reset the properties of the folder.
Run the checker system (no errors found) files.
    Taking possession of the records.
Make sure that I have all the permissions with folders.

Check if the requests are blocked.
Try start mode selective (Microsoft, no startup application services).
    Re-registration of Windows install.

My antivirus software is Microsoft Security Essentials. I did full scans. It prompted me without warning.

    Hello

Are you having the same problem during the download of Internet Explorer?

    Method 1:
I suggest you try the procedure described in the article and see if it helps.
Error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file" when you try to install, update or launch a program or file
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2669244
Note: There is a risk of data loss if all the files are infected and which can be removed in the cleaning process.

    Method 2:
If the problem is not resolved I suggest you to save the files and run an upgrade on the spot to repair permissions.

How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Cannot find the specified device, path, or file. May not be the appropriate permissions for access you.

    Hey everybody,

I was running Windows vista professional for more than 2 years yesterday, I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled vista prof. (entirely new, different CD key). Everything works very well excenp for one thing - I had saved some of the programs and files on my external hardrive before formatting my laptop. Now, when I try to access these files I get the following msg-"cannot find the specified device, path, or file." You don't have permission to access them. ".
I am logged in as administrator.

Help, please. I reallly need the files.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey Jihirshu,

    It looks like permissions.

Try this on one of the files on the disk to see if it allows you to copy the files.

1 right click on the file, then select Properties
    2. click on the Security tab
    3. click on change, in the name box, type "Everyone".
    4. in the boxes next to the permissions below, put 'Total control' for everyone
    5. click OK, and then close the dialog boxes
    6. try to copy the file that you just modified.

If the works above, you must change the permissions on all the files you want to copy.  Normally, you can just highlight all the and follow the steps above to change the permissions on all files at the same time.

I hope this helps if you find my answer was what you are looking for, please do not forget to click on the box "mark as answer" below!
