  • Error creating - snapshot operation is not allowed in the current state

    Hi all

Using Veeam Backup & Recovery 6 software to replicate a LIVE VM (virtual MACHINE, 1). But I can't and I got the following error:

Error creating - snapshot operation is not allowed in the current state

The above virtual machine can only be copied when it is STOPPED the VM is running on ESXi 4.0.

I have a more LIVE VM (virtual MACHINE, 2) on the ESXi Host which I was able to replicate successfully to another ESXi host.

I contacted the Veeam Support before posting here.

Things to note about VM 1: I can't take a snapshot manually from the vSphere client. This option is greyed (disabled) on VM1... While its OK on VM2.

Veeam support told me that since its software uses the snapshot function of ESXi and this feature is disabled, replication cannot continue.

Thanks for helping me on this.

Exactly what I thought. When you delte this PCI passtrough your Backup Exec tape will not longer work.
You will not be able to do replication when you use this passtrough.

Only solution for replication (which is what I think you want for purposes of disaster) is to install a 3rd VM (or as physical) as "Backup Server" where you install Backup Exec and enable PCI-Passtrough to your tape drive. Then this new virtual machine with Backup Exec backup.

After that you can delete the passtrough of your SBS and your replication will work.

    Sorry

  • Windows backup error: a snapshot could not be created. Error code: 0 x 81000019.

Original title: Windows - no system reserved partition backup error

Whenever I try to back up files by using the backup utility Windows 7, I get the following error message:

"A snapshot could not be created. Check the event logs "VSS" and "SPP" application for more information.
"Details: the specified object could not be found" error code: 0 x 81000019

The backup utility starts and says is 'create shadow' fails.

In the research forums, I find a common solution to the increase in the size / cleaning of the system reserved partition.  My problem is that the system reserved partition does not exist on the computer.  The computer originally had Windows Vista and upgraded to Windows 7 x 86 Ultimate SP1.

Is it possible to get Windows 7 backup to work without a system reserved partition?  If not, is anyway to create a system partition reserved without wiping the hard drive and reinstalling everything?

  • ERROR: New-Snapshot (the operation is not valid due to the current state of the object)

    Hello guys!

I've been googlin everywhere, but impossible to find a solution to my problem. I hope that one of you, qualified people can point me in the right direction :)

I created a powerCLI script to take a snapshot of our most important servers before we do our weekly maintenance. The idea to run the script as regular powershell script and then have

    1. Add snap-ins powercli and connect to virtualcenter servers
    2. ask the VC servers to virtual machines in a perticular folder
    3. Loop foreach on these servers to create a snapshot with the name $snapshotname

Currently, I just do it turn on a test folder that I created in vSphere that contains 3 test VMs:

    • Testmagne1 - normal operation
    • Testmagne2 - I renamed the folder for this virtual machine in the data store to generate an error.
    • testmagne3 - normal operation

Since the servers (not the test servers, but good ones) is the most important servers in our environment, I want to be able to catch exceptions and errors when I run this script. I do this with the Try - Catch - Finally works.

    The strange thing is:

The release of Powershell/PowerCLI is different from the output in VirtualCenter (!)

In virtualcenter, the output is as follows

    • Testmagne1 - snapshot is created successfully - as expected
    • Testmagne2 - the snapshot creation fails because it cannot find the files .vmx - as expected
    • Testmagne3 - snapshot is created successfully - as expected

However, the exit in powercli is slightly different:

    • Testmagne1 - snapshot is created successfully - as expected
    • Testmagne2 - creation of the snapshot fails because it cannot find the files .vmx - as expected
    • Testmagne3 - snapshot fails with the error message: operation is not valid due to the current state of the object - huh?

Apparently once the first error is generated all succeeding VMs get error "the operation is not valid due to the current state of the object"

I've been pulling trying to figure this problem on my hair, but I'm not getting anywhere

    Here is some additional information:

Definition - ErrorAction Stop locally on the cmdlet will not solve the problem. We have found and solved the problem and the fix will be available in the next version. Until then, you can use the $error variable to detect whether the cmdlet was successful or not. You can clear the $error variable before calling the cmdlet and check if it's still empty after the call.

On two occasions since the upgrade of VMware Workstation 8 Ive met the following error when you try to go back to a snapshot:

Instant restore error: couldn't remove change tracking file.

Surprisingly, a search on this error both here in on google pulled the high zero results.

Has anyone meet this issue before? Is it possible that I can get back to my shot, or am I out of luck?

    Thank you.

CBT (changed block Tracking) is a feature of ESXi. I suggest that you remove the following two lines to the file the.vmx

    scsi0:0.ctkEnabled = 'true '.
    ctkEnabled = 'true '.

as well as the time of "v10-Master_DemoServer-000002 - ctk.vmdk", the virtual machine is turned off.

    Hello

I have a virtual machine, there are two partitions, one is 250 GB and another is 256GB.

I tried to make the clone but it gives error operation failed too, I tried to take sanpshot then it gives below error.

"< File_name ed specifi c > file is larger than the maximum size supported by the data store ' < datastore specifi ed >.

After I tried to reduce the size of the second disc hard 250 GB, but when I went on the virtual machine, it still showing 256Go and unable to take pictures with the same error.

The second drive is drive D there is nothing but I'm afraid to remove what could be the effect on the operating system or the application since it is Exchange Server.

Kindly guide me what I have to do so safely.

  • Error returning snapshot

    Hello!

We had a VC 2.5 with the hosts of the esx3.5u4 and the Lab Manager 3, which uses one of the hosts.

We have improved the VC and ESX for the worm. 4 and Lab Manager to worm. 4

The host used by the Director of the laboratory is not part of the DRS cluster and has a local data store.

Now, using Lab Manager we are trying to get back to a snapshot for one of the virtual machines and get the following error:

Can't go back 'vm-name '. The host on which the virtual machine is deployed has a processor type that is incompatible with the item back.

Before returning upgrade went very well and without errors.

And the material have not changed a bit.

    Can anyone help?

It's nasty bug that I am surprised Vmware still remains to be resolved.

This is the basically what you can do to fix it - although VMware has yet to find a solution more permanent.

In the fsdir table of database on your server Lab Manager - there is a field of type of processor - find this number is. This will be a number like, 10, 15, 13, 17 or something like that...  Want to watch the ID # for the VM instance broken Setup that won't come back.

About to return--(rétablir configuration id #/ annuaire qui vous voyez aussi sur cette fsdir) - find this number is.  And look in the same table...

They do not match... match - I'd set to Null if you use CVS.

This problem does not disappear, btw...  It will only solve it to this point in time.

You have more than one snapshot? in this case, you will need to provide arguments to inform additional cli command which instant you want missing. If you want that all went snapshots just use

    VMware-vim-cmd vmsvc/snapshot.removeall vmid

Use the following command to get more information on the State of snapshot for VM

  • Wrong error message for snapshots

Hello. We have a PS6210xs and 6000 bundled together running FW 7.1.9. This morning, I got the message "than snapshots" for 7 volumes, but all have the right number of snapshots. All volumes are connected to Windows server VM iscsi data volumes.

6 volumes are hosted by the same Windows VM, and the snapshot for each error said that there are 0 available snapshots (and again, snapshots are actually there). Seems like a pretty big coincidence, but complicate the model, which hosts VM even several other volumes that had no error for snapshots.

I have about 100 volumes which becomes instant at the same time. Maybe SAN HQ has just for a few microseconds, as he ran through the instant check? Should I shift instantaneous time of some?

    Thank you.

    Hello

By any chance, is this part of a collection?  with collections, the timing is very sensitive, since the idea is that the volumes of the collection are linked.  The volumes in the collection more, more the calendar becomes.  As everything must be appeased at the same time.

If the volumes are not related.  I.e. Data/Exchange log files, then I would not use the collections, or only use collections for some volumes and shift some departure times.   Even 5 minutes is fine.

    Kind regards

  • vCenter esx 5.5 - consolidate the snapshot fails with an error occurred by consolidating the discs: msg.snapshot.error - NOTFOUND?

I don't know why is this error?

I got an error that the virtual disk space was low tool and my vm has been automatically turned off.  I scoured the data store and I saw old clichés that were very important which could be removed.

I went into the Snapshot Manager and has tried deleting them and started getting the error msg.snapshot.error - NOTFOUND.

The clichés that I deleted since the Snapshot Manager always appear when I browse the data store, but are locked.

I really need to be able to consolidate these pictures in the parent company.  100 GB free on the store of data right now.

If I try to take a new snapshot it fails and says: an error has occurred when taking a snapshot: msg.disklib.OPENPARENT.

I also noticed after the fact that my hard drive is pointing to the most recent snapshot rather than to the parent.

I think if I edit the .vmx file and change it so that it points to the parent would be the load, but then I will not lose the clichés?

I like to keep at least the most recent roll in parent company snapshot.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello!

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, a part of the problem is that the data store was running out of space.  If I didn't have space or time to try a clone.

I did a reboot and after that has been able to update the CID to get the right string after I changed the hard drive to point to the base file, power, created a snapshot, turned off and pointed to the hard drive in the last snapshot.

But there was a corrupt, one in the list since my VM corrupted after all the snapshots consolidated (+ 6 hours later).

I didn't have a lot of time to continue to troubleshoot or try a clone on another virtual server, we have little space so I started from scratch.

Fortunately, I discovered that my backups of the data have been very well, I so reinstalled Windows and started from scratch.

    Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hope this helps someone else because I just watched as he went to work, and I don't know if a clone would have gotten it going or not.
