Error tool brush with layer masks

I've identified a bug in layer mask in Photoshop for Mac 14.2.1. When you work with no vector layer masks, the Brush tool will not paint one value darker than the white level in the mask. For example:

When a layer mask is created from the icon at the bottom of the layers window, the mask itself is white, representing a total visibility of the hidden layer. If you try to use the brush with 100% black (for in fact hide something in the layer there is), it does not work. I am able to use the bucket tool paint and pencil to fill in black mask tool, but not the Brush tool. If the mask is 67% gray, and my brush tool is set to 66% gray, it does not yet affect mask; White level cannot be decreased, not increased with the Brush tool. Bug!

Your brush, blending mode is set to Normal?

  • Brush on CS6 tool not working with layer masks - behave like an airbrush?

    Hello

I use adjustment layers (curves) and create a layer dark / clear and then with a brush with an opacity of 30 to 50% to say to paint on the mask to show dark / clear in certain areas of an image.

It was working fine until yesterday. Now however, my brush appeared pixelated and scattered on the spray paint or an airbrush for example. Rather than all the soft brush. Even at 100% opacity, not all pixels are altered, instead, ago clearly visible (when zoomed in) pixels which are lightened / darkened, and some were completely unchanged, which leads to a horrible pixelation effect.

Any ideas? Thank you very much!

Have solved - I got the 'mode' value dissolve rather than normal, for some reason any. Thank you

  • Gradient tool works only with layer masks...

Hello, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert in photoshop by any means... but I usually managed to get my projects done with a bit of fusion.

At the moment I'm trying to fade out the last inches of a photograph, so it blends more into circles on which it is placed.

If I use the gradient tool, the value "in the foreground to Transparent" I get good effect, but instead of fading to transparent, happening in white... what doesn't work when I move the layer over a colored background.

I have read and watched many tutorials on this, and they say all create a layer mask, then use the gradient... but for some reason whenever I the mask of the selected layer the gradient tool will not work...

Can anyone give advice? I've been playing with this for hours...

And ensuring that the blending mode for the gradient tool is set to Normal.

  • CC 2015 Photoshop layer mask does not?

I've recently updated to CC in Photoshop, but I have problems with layer masks, I created the mask layer, and when I paint with my black brush, it does not block the area completely, it will leave the remains of the image essentially, it leaves an opaque shape. I check that my brush is set to normal and my layer is set to normal. I have reset the brushes, I tried implementing new photoshop documents, but it makes no difference. Can anyone help please see the example below, the Red is a layer below the layer of the image that has applied the layer mask.

  • Help! White paint or brush tool on layer mask work suddenly

I worked with almost all the versions on Photoshop for many years.  Not an expert but with continued several years of experience.  All of a sudden, something happened which led to my being more able to work with pictures in PS5 until it is resolved...

    PS5 / Windows 7 / 64-bit

As long as photographer frame of my work with images more often is to work in layers.  Create a duplicate layer.  Changes to this layer.  Add the layer mask to this layer.  Use the tool brush to paint in which changes to the duplicate layer will be exposed and see what parts of the lower layer.

To do this the black square on the toolbar is on top for "paint"and let the lower layer to be seen.»  The oppisite white color square is used on top to cover a lower layer so that the top layer is observed.

All of a sudden, I guess I touched or pressed something I don't have, I can no longer use the white or cover the tip of the tool.  Once I expose all or part of the bottom layer, I'm not able to re - cover all or part of this layer again.  When I go to strictly colors 'paint', I can now also no longer to paint with white color.  All other colors works but not white.

Thanks in advance because I'm totally oyut business until it is resolved.

    Bruce

Please check that it has not corrected the problem.  A multiply by White yields without change, which explains exactly what you saw.

Also make sure that you have not a selection, because you won't be able to paint outside a selection.

After pressing X button was able to brush the image and then he kept repeating the process of pressing X and it pixlelated areas of the image. And now the masks brush and layer don't work at all whenever I start a new project.

    Hi dtain,

Can you please try reset tool.

To reset a tool, you must first have the selected tool. Then Ctrl-click (Windows users: right click) the button tool preset in the Tool Options bar.

When you click this button, you will see a small menu and you can select Tool Reset to reset the current tool to its default value or reset all tools to deliver all the tools to its default value. Once selected, the tool will act as the first time you have used it.

Using this simple method to reset your tool with a single click, you can quickly remedy any situation where the tool does not correctly and to maintain the flow of creativity going.

  • Problem with layer in PSE 9 masks

Yesterday my layer in PSE9 masks stopped working for midway through an editing session. I can always create a layer mask and reveal all or hide them all (it displays in the layers Panel on the full editing screen), but I can't change the areas of paint mask to hide or reveal the parts of the mask.  No clue as to why it happened all of a sudden and how to fix it?  Could I have accidentally "toggled a switch" somewhere?  I hope not to have to reload the program from scratch, so suggestions as to a fix would be appreciated.

AHA!  The Brush tool did not work, but as I was dinking with it, I realized that it was not defined in "Normal" mode.  When I changed the brush returned to 'Normal' it works great!  * sigh * sometimes I'm terribly slow!  Laughing out loud

Thanks for your help, hatstead!  If you didn't have me focused on the Brush tool, off the coast of the layer itself, I would have been banging my head against the wall for three days!

  • I can't get to layer masks to work with PScc but works fine with CS6

When I create a layer mask, it appears correctly but does not at all.  I have the correct layer selected and I paint in black (and nothing happens blank either) and there is no problem when you do exactly the same thing with CS6, so I thought it might be a difference in my settings but I do not see everything.  My masks are NOT disabled in the properties.  Nothing appears on the image or the mask.  I can however, use the Eraser tool as usual.  Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Is your brush on the normal mixture and not clarify or screen?

  • Problems with adjustment layer masks

I have serious problems with adjustment layer masks. I have converted a photo black and white usiing one adjustment layer and trying to return to colored eyes. My form tool is selected, the color black is my first plan and target my layer mask. Coloring on the contour of the eyes a brownish/sepia-like color is revealed instead of blue (the color of the eyes). When I on the skin a reddish colour. In this case on THREE platforms... PSE6 CS3 AND CS5.5.

I have reset my tools. Close the program. Uninstalled and reinstalled twice (PSE6 and CS3). And you have installed a trial version and reset preferences in CS5.5 (just to see if I could overcome my problem). I also reset the default preferences in CS5.5.

Recently, I uninstalled a trial version of PSE10 (a week ago give or take and I think that I have chosen to remove preferences... do not know well).

    OS: Vista

    Browser: Chrome

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Katherine

Yes, I figured that the surrounding grayish area would give the impression that the color of the skin is too orange/high heat, and without external tone, the eye color looks different.

Katherine, take a piece of paper, make a big hole like brush strokes and place it on the corrected image. This is not the colors are the same as on the image corrected, now? (Well, there should be a gray piece of paper to get exactly the same result)

It's an optical illusion, like this: http://capslove.wordpress.com/2009/11/20/optical-illusion/ where the eyes of the same color green or cyan according to its surrounding areas. Your mind compensates for the colors and the tricks you into believing that they are different in picture one / two, skin color lighter and less saturated than in your second picture image.

Knowing this, you can use another adjustment layer, to drive the color where you want (to the soft blue brighter, more saturated) or skin made down the color that appears too bright.

If the other members of the forum are not paid in graphic design and the influence of surrounding the optical tricks colors/classic, it doesn't surprise me that they are consistent with the description you give, especially if you do ask them 'the skin looks too orange.

This is why it is recommended to have a photo studio (or the room in what you use Photoshop) with gray walls, why Photoshop interface is neutral blue-grey and not bright pink, etc.

(If you work on a Pc, select a black theme without transparency for Vista/7, or on a mac, select the choice of interface of graphite, as it could also mislead you.)

Some use a grey full desktop picture.

    Thanks for the props, guys!

  • Black brush on the layer mask issues

After a year working properly for the dark years of painting in normal mode does not have 100% opacity on a layer mask with the opacity and flow pegged at 100%.  White paint works very well.  Paint with black to multiply mode get to 100% after several passes. Reset the brushes - no help. Disabled the graphics processor - no help. Started with a new file photos and added a few layers and masks - has not always worked.  Any ideas?  I think that I am the victim of an update of Windows 7.  I'm running in 64-bit. Thanks in advance

Sounds like time to reset the preferences.  What version of Photoshop?

  • Cannot use the tool to erase inside a layer mask

Recently, after updating Photoshop CC I noticed that I can use is more clear within a layer mask tool to add or remove areas from the mask. The paint brush tool still works inside the mask, but the Delete tool does not work. No idea why?

Make sure your foreground/background colors are on BW. And make sure your foreground color is set to the same color you want to erase the layer mask: black if you want to erase (whiten) the black part of the mask, white if you want to clear (turn black) the white part of the mask.

  • Eraser tool does not work for the black layer mask

I'm trying to put a black layer mask and use Eraser tool to change.  Unfortunately the Eraser tool does not.  I'm not knowingly do anything differently that I did in the past.  Recently, I did a round of software updates for CS6.  I was wondering if anyone else is experienceing this and if there is a solution?

Verify that the in the Toolbox foreground color is set to black. (in front of when using the Brush tool)

Press D, and then press the X key.

And opacity and flow are 100%.

Most people use the brush on the layer masks and you might find that works better.

  • Black brush on the layer mask works not. Please help.

I have been using CS6 for some time now.  6 CS decided that I can't use my black brush on a white layer mask. Not at all. I can use that white on a black mask, but not black I.  I restarted the computer, but I'm annoyed. Anyone have this problem?  Solutions?  I'm so over my head with photos at the end... It would be my great weekend to night work.

Look at the Options bar. Is the brush in Normal blending mode?
