ESX ESX 4-3 in a cluster host

Hi, I have a problem with vSphere.  I have 3 4u2 ESX hosts in a cluster.  I have the DRS and vmotion active.  They connect to the San and see each data store that is configured.  I need is no longer a data store.  I removed the SAN LUNS first before removing hosts.  Now when I try to delete the host data store, it complains with the following error:

The cvonfiguration of the host error: SysinfoException: node (VSI_NODE_storage_scsifw_devices_partition_info); (Bad0003) status = not trouvΘ; Message = Instance (2): naa.6001438005decab50000700000d00000 1 Input (0)

I realize I should removed first of all the data store, but how to fix this?  I need the store data deleted.

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried a new analysis of SAN your form your HBA?

  • Storage shared between cluster hosts

    Hello

    I have a number of hosts managed under a VC server clusters. I want to downgrade the ESX 3.5 cluster and spend all my virtual machines to my vSphere cluster. I intend to move the storage currently used by ESX 3.5 clusters as well.

    Is this OK (or supported) or even possible for me to do the following?

    1. attach the storage used by the cluster cluster vSphere ESX 3.5 (so it is folded in TWO clusters).

    2. the servers from ESX3.5 to vSphere vMotion cluster cluster.

    3. turn off the cluster of ESX 3.5.

    I guess it boils down to two questions.

    1. can you be shared between host cluster storage two?

    2. If you can, is it possible to vMotion between cluster hosts, assuming that all the vMotion compatibility checks are successful?

    If the above is not possible, I'm guessing that a V2V of VMS ESX 3.5 would be the way to go, and I have to find new storage for the cluster of vSphere.

    Thank you

    Hello

    If you have a SAN vSphere-taking in charge, so there is no problem.

    According to the CRA on your 3.5/vSphere ESX CPU hosts, you might have problems with storage vmotion/vmotion. One way would be to enable CVS, however requiring all virtual machines to be powered off.

    But present the LUN 3.5 4.x guests and make a svmotion is not a problem if you have taken care of storage. (www.vmware.com/go/hcl).

    Then you can just vmotion (if you do not have CPU incompatibility) virtual machines to new hosts, or stop and move.

  • "Mem.Usage.Average" against the total aggregate of cluster host memory

    Please see the attachment for the whole story.

    Please give me a sanity check on this. I used the "Mem.Usage.Average" as a % against allocated VM MemoryMB. The sum of these calculations escaped by far the actual calculations of the vCenter % memory-based. So, I changed my calculations that you see in the worksheet to use the 'Mem.Usage.Average' against the total aggregate available on all hosts in the cluster. This amount came to less than 1% of my calculations based on vCenter GUI. Am I right against the total aggregate memory cluster host instead of against VM memory assigned using 'Mem.Usage.Average '? vCGUI.jpg

    for me the SDK says that percentage reflects the relationship between the memory 'active' in the virtual machine against the memory configured for the virtual machine.

    A configured with 8 GB of memory virtual computer that has 'use' of 25% is actively using 2 GB of memory.

    I think that your numbers you get for VMS are biased because of the great period of time during which you take the average (see previous answer).

    You can cross-check the mem.usage.average with the mem.active.average.

    In the following code, I calculate the different 2 meters actual memory used by the virtual machine.

    $clusterName = "mycluster.

    $stat = 'mem.usage.average ','mem.active.average '.

    $vm = get - Cluster - name $clusterName | Get - VM | where {$_.} PowerState - eq "Receptor"}

    $stats = get-Stat-entity $vm - Stat $stat - Realtime - MaxSamples 1

    $stats | Group-object - property {$_.} @entity.name} | %{

    [PSCustomObject] @ {}

    VM = $_. Group [0]. @entity.name

    MemoryMB = $_. Group [0]. Entity.MemoryMB

    MemUsagePerc = $_. Group | where {$_.} MetricId - eq "mem.usage.average"} | Select - ExpandProperty value

    MemUsageMB = [int]($_.) Group [0]. Entity.MemoryMB * ($_.) Group | where {$_.} MetricId - eq "mem.usage.average"}). Value) / 100

    MemActiveMB = ($_.) Group | where {$_.} MetricId - eq "mem.active.average"} | Select - ExpandProperty Value) / 1 KB

    }

    }

    The result shows a specific virtual machine, these two numbers are close enough to be considered the same imho.

    That they should be in fact, the mem.usage.average is derived from the mem.active.average.

  • Monitoring selected VM, ESX, cluster hosts

    Hello

    I check if it is possible to select the specified ESX host or Virtual Machines to monitor instead of pulling all the VMS and hosts in Foglight? Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Jamie.

    You can via a user name, but we do not support that.  The problem lies in the case you have a virtual machine, and then you forget about the potential problems with the host.  If you have only a few hosts, it could miss part of a cluster or something else using the storage...  There are many cases where not having not any data could cause problems, so we don't support all a vCenter.

  • Adding a new ESX 3.5 to a cluster server

    I currently have an ESX Server connected to my san ISCI. I would add another ESX Server to the cluster. What is a procedure to follow to add the new ESX Server to the cluster, allowing him to see the virtual machines that are already on the other ESX Server?

    See this link for a simple cluster how

    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/VMware-ESX-articles/VMotion-DRS-high-availability/configure-VMware-high-availability-VMHA.html

    If the target ISCSI (SAN you) has been configured to allow access of the new ESX host in the cluster, once the Vmkernel port / initiator of ICSI has been configured on the new host, it should be able to see the VMFS data store (you need to perform a new analysis your storage adapters). It should be able to see the store of data before it is attached to the new cluster.

    The thread above works well for pulling all the esx hosts log files.

    I have a situtaion where I need to update all the ESX. CONF file on about 50 hosts two clusters...

    Again, I used the plink command, but this time I used the m parameter to pass the sudo commands.

    This is the script I came up with

    Note that the script takes all ESX hosts in a specific data center, but this can easily be changed.

    Also note that if the DRS is not set to "auto", you must boot the vMotions yourself from the VIC.

    The temporary file that I use to pass the command sudo for ESX server can be located somewhere else of course.

  • Get the name of the VM Cluster, host name, CPU and carrots

    Hello

    All of the following code gives the expected results, except for the last line. I can't make it work. What I am doing wrong?

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; {E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_______ |} Select NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_______ |} Get - View). Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    Thank you!

    There was a missing (in front of your last Get-VMHost. Want to be as fair as the attribute NumCPU, not an object that contains an attribute NumCPU so I changed line 3 a little

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; {E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {(Get-VMHost-VM $_).} NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {(Get-VMHost-VM $_ |)} Get - View). Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    If you use this for a large number of virtual machines, you can watch by optimizing a bit. Rather call 'Get-VMHost' several times you can restructure a bit then called this is only once

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; E = {$Script: VMH = (Get-VMHost - VM $_); $Script: VMH.} Name}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {$Script: VMH.} NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {$Script: VMH.} ExtensionData.Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    The 2nd piece of code is a little more than 2 x faster than the first since Get-VMHost is not be called multiple times

    Another quick thing, if you are looking for the number of processors (i.e. how much taken) then replace $Script: VMH. NumCPU with $Script: VMH. ExtensionData.Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuPackages; the host object NumCPU attribute is actually the number of cores that can be a bit misleading

  • How to detect the average I / Ops by Cluster/host

    Hi all

    I have the need to detect the average I/O for my ESX environment. I know there is the possibility to see whit "esxtop" and I think there is the possibility to make Pentecost esxtop Batch mode. But actually I'm not the admin pro all around Pentecost the batchmod then maybe someone could help me.

    I want to detect the e/s offer a time for about 3 days, and then look for an exit as MIN/MAX/Averrage.

    If possible for a Cluster will be great, but it also works if I have to do for each host itself.

    Y at - it a tool that can read the output of esxtop and give me something to do my life easyer or MIN/MAX/Averrage as output?

    Will be nice if someone could help.

  • Add 3.5 a vSphere cluster host

    Hey all!

    It's my first update 4.1, bare with me!

    I have a question about bringing a 3.5 with sub host the virtual computer to a cluster of vSphere.  I migrated 2 out of my 3 hosts at 4.1 and make them in my new Cluster (networking and storage is the program Setup and ready to go).  My older cluster always has the last host, all virtual machines running.  I can't take them down to those VMS, so I need a way to bring this host in the new cluster and vMotion these virtual machines to the new 4.1 hosts.  All VM VMDK files are on an iSCSI SAN and two virtual centres can see this SAN.  I tried converter on one of the virtual machine, but it asks me to create a new data store, not allowing me to use the current data store.

    Now, my question is... If I disconnect the 3.5 host, can I connect from vCenter and add in the new cluster without causing problems to the virtual machine?  I know I can put in the maintenance and remove it, but brings down my VM.  Yes, I have all my configuration of license and Server 4.1 is ready to host the Server 3.5, until I have move the virtual computer out of it.

    Thanks for the help!

    Perfect... Then, you can manage the last your new VC 4.1 esx and migrate each step of each virtual machine.

  • Roles, permissions - DataCenter, file, Cluster, host Layout - best Practices\How-to

    Have a little problem with permissions and roles. I'm sure it will be an easy one for those of you with more experience of working with roles. I hope that my layout organization made with quote boxes is readable.

    The Organization has just spun a new host ESXi 4 for developers and added in vCenter. Developers want to use the vSphere Client\VIC to manage the ESX Server. They need rights to create virtual machines, remove VMs, clone VMs, VMs potential power. However, we don't want them to be able to reach production.

    According to the diagram below, the new host of development, labeled as "HostC (autonomous DEVELOPMENT host)", is located under "Data Center-City-2", who also owns the production ESX clusters. " And obviously I don't want developers having rights on production groups.

    Lets say I have create a role called 'HostC Dev Sandbox Rights', add users and assign directly to "HostC" below. This role contains the VM 'create' right, however when I run the wizard Creation of VM of HostC as a member of the role the vSphere Client tells me this task requires rights create VM on the level of data center! But given these developers to create VMS access on the data center would give them rights to create virtual machines in the poles of Production! Which is obviously a problem.

    I can't believe that our need to give these rights to ONLY one host in a DataCenter is rare. I don't know that there is a misunderstanding on my part of how to configure VMware roles for best practices.

    Anyone with more expirence on VMware roles ready to help me on this one? Thanks in advance!

    You can apply permissions directly to the data store.  I didn't need to go further than the clusters in our environment, but what really works for you is to place data warehouses in folders for storage.  Have the records be the names of your groups hosts and clusters.  Then place the warehouses of data for each cluster in the corresponding folder.  Then, just apply permissions for the data on the record instead of warehouses in each individual data store.  Off topic a little, but a records of something in the store of data discovered lack is the function of "views of storage" and I put a future application.

    Yes, if you set permissision to the view of the data store the user can turn opinion and see.  Extensive your permissions framework tests is guaranteed before pushing users.  Looks like you are already doing.

  • Add Cluster hosts

    Here's the situation:

    3 servers new ESX 4.0 I am wanting to add to a new cluster that I created.  I activated the cluster for HA, DRS and CVS and you want to add these 3 guests to it.

    I get the message error "the name 'host_name' already exists.

    This may be the cause?  The documentation I read he said it is recommended to create an empty cluster first and then activate the features that you want such as VCA, etc. and then add hosts.

    I'm doing it, but I'm not having any success because of this error.

    Also, as a note aside... when I go through the add hosts Wizard and it happens to the license section.  I have 2 options... choose evaluation mode or select from a list of existing licenses... the problem is that the list of licenses... in this case 3 for guests I already setup with their appropriate licenses is grayed out.  I can't select the licenses, so I leave the assessment and move.  Is this normal?

    I appreciate all help... Thank you!

    The host is already managed by the vCenter Server? If so, just drag and drop it into the cluster, or remove it to vCenter inventory and add click with the right button on the cluster by selecting Add a host. You can't have two hosts with the same name, managed by the same server vCenter Server, so when you add the cluster and type in the info, if it already exists outside the cluster, but in the same vCenter inventory, then you will get this error.
