ESXi 4.0.0 wrong amount of space available to store DATA on DELL 2950

Hi community

Well, we brought brand new DELL 2950 server, with following Config Hard / w.

750 GB x 6 SAS, RAID 10 disks configured.

Processor Xeon 2 x 2.83

32 GB OF RAM

We installed ESXi 4.0 and use the vSphere client for management host, our problem is when we try to add "datastore" it shows still only 45 GB of available space, while storage contoller shows good disc size as 2. 0 t, we tried a new analysis and fresh of the controller and disks, but nothing helped.

Any suggestions on how we should make our 2. 0 t drive as long as the available space for the DATA store? Please see atacched JPG for problem

Greetings and thanks

Server_Sap

With PERC controller, you can create multiple logical drives inside your container RAID5.

Remember that each 'disc' is<>

Charles please do not remove the installation files in the Program Files directory.  I recommend to extract the installation to your downloads folder or your desktop files.  Once installation files are extracted, you can then run the installation program to install Photoshop elements 13.

  • RDM use space on the store data or SAN

    Dear all,

According to my understanding, RDM creates a mapping file in the data store in the folder of the virtual machine, but it consumes all of the space on the data store, but yes, on SAN. I have a virtual machine with 50 GB vmdk and a physical RDM 50 GB, the machine's memory is 8 GB so vsphere client, seems space put into service for machine to 108. So it means that 50 GB of RDM is also included in funded space shown in vsphere client.

The same look at space of data store, the space of data store configured showing also 50 GB RDM counted in the space provided, where, as the data must be on the SAN, can someone explain why in the data store space calculation as rdm as space accrued on himself.

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

    Thank you

As the rdm file uses no space disk (only a few bytes of the header/descriptor file), the disk space is still available for other virtual machines.

Use icloud for storing my photos will reduce the amount of space these photos take on my iphone? I guess the pictures would be automatically download on icloud but under settings, it tells me photos waiting to be downloaded, why?

Yes, if you delete them from your device.

  • I have many windows security updates and are now too much room. Is there a program that will reduce the amount of space being taken up?

I want to free memory space and have years of security updates to windows of the pak series 3 services. Is there a way to free up space or I will damage the operating system?

There are a number of things you can do to- temporarily - free up disk space.  The only real solution, however, is to get a bigger internal hard drive.   You can move the data to an external drive, but if it's the data that you use frequently, slower access times may annoy you.  Therefore, I do not recommend that you move your My Documents folder in its entirety on an external drive, but you can certainly do this by following the related instructions.

    • You can run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)
    • You can reduce the size allocated for the restoration of the system to about 1 GB (right click on desktop > properties > system restore > settings)
    • You can disable hibernation (if you don't use it) (right click on an empty spot on the desktop > properties > screen saver > power > Hibernate)
    • You can disable the indexing of the drive, which will also speed up your computer a bit (http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp)
    • You can reduce the size of your Internet browser cache (depending on the browser that you use)
    • You can remove most of the $NTUninstallKBxxxxxx files $ following the directions here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Hotfix_backup.htm (read the warnings in the gray box first)

But none of these answers you will earn really large amounts of space for very long.  The term solution time is a bigger hard drive.

In the meantime, download and run JDiskReport, that will show you graphically what files take up more space and seem to so indicate what files you must move it to your external drive.  If you want to move an application on an external drive, you will need to uninstall and then reinstall it specifying your external drive as the installation location (and even then, it is likely going to install some files on your main system drive).  You can not simply move the files.

  • I get message "not enough space on drive" when I check Add/Remove items, I noticed that the Windows XP security updates takes a huge amount of space? What can I do to reduce or fix it? __

Free space on drive C - Windows XP Security takes a large amount of space.

    Beachaven,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community!

How much space you show the updates of security take?

It is recommended to leave all the updates security installed and continue to keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update. Remove these updates will make your computer vulnerable to malicious software. If you need to erase the disk space, I recommend to uninstall old programs that are no longer in use. You can also check the disk cleanup tool to see if you can free up of any space there.

    ·         Click Start

    ·         Click on all programs

    ·         Click on Accessories

    ·         Click on System Tools

    ·         Click Disk Cleanup

    ·         Check the boxes of files to remove

    ·         Click OK

    ·         Click on delete files

Hope that helps, I look forward to hearing from you.

How can I burn a movie to a blank dvd when the movie to burn is greater than the amount of space on the blank dvd?

You could import the movie into Windows Movie Maker, use the 'split' option, split the video to 2 or more smaller movie files, then burn each smaller movie file to separate DVDs.

This would be my method. There may be a better way.

  • your dxdiag shows wrong amount of RAM for your GPU?

I saw a problem came several times on the forums these days in which users report the command the dxdiag reports wrong amount of RAM for the graphics card.  I've seen some users report that the amount is presented as something similar to 750 or 950 MB when they should have between 1-2 GB.

It turns out that it is probably a problem with dxdiag himself.  If the computer has more than 4 GB of system memory or more 1 GB memory GPU, that it will not be reported correctly.  Also, it may not report the correct video card in the report.

Here is an article of Mircosoft on the issue.

To confirm that your GPU has indeed the right amount of RAM I suggest you use an application like GPU-Z.

    I hope it's useful!

  • Why the Asian language fonts pack extended to XI player takes up a large amount of space?

I did some manual cleaning on my local drive and to my great surprise, the largest 'program', that I had installed was the fonts pack extended Asian languages for Adobe Reader XI, taking 26.4 GB of space on my computer.

This pack of fonts is supposed to take this amount of space?

This isn't a 52 MB file, 26 GB. It should take 135 MB maximum.

Uninstall and reinstall? Adobe - Adobe Reader: for Windows: Adobe Reader 11.0.09 - Pack of Asian and extended language font Packs: thanks

  • Change the amount of space after the return of the line

    Hello

I'm creating a html email (using a table and a new style inline every time I insert text, such as advised)

However, this query can apply to any form of html in dreamweaver:

Can I set and change the amount of space inserted after a return line?

I know shift + return gives space standard but I would ideally a space a little bigger than that (although not as big a full 'back' gives)

    Surely, it must be possible?

    Any help appreciated

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Hit the Enter key gives you a paragraph tag

Paragraphs have a default margin, you must change this margin. To change/adjust the margin on all the paragraphs on your page using css.

Add the to the top of the page between the style or an external style sheet:

    p {margin: 5px 0 0 ;}}

The above sets margin 5 pixels albums 0 pixels left/low 0 pixels. Adjust according to your need.

    Thank you

  • What is the appropriate amount of space?

    Hello

I spend parallels with Fusion 2.0.  I intend to import my existing parallels fusion VM using the merge import feature.  Currently, there are close to 30 GB of data on my drive hard virtual parallels.  Should I do something else to make molten you that there is enough room for all my data and also to give me room to grow?

    Thank you.

Probably the most important thing is the amount of free space exists on the host computer to a point in time and everything else is secondary to that.  Import a Machine virtual directly Parallels with Fusion 2.x will not change the maximum size of the virtual hard drive to something less then it is and you can enlarge after importation and if you want total control in both directions during the process then use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone.

As for the amount of space you need, you need not less the size now occupied by the contents of the virtual hard drive, assuming that your no pre-allocation, the amount of RAM assigned to the virtual machine and space adding operational overhead from the point of view of the merger and the Virtual Machine itself more and extra space needed to grow while you and only you can answer This question and do the math to go with how much free space in the host now and move forward.

  • Loss of disk space available in the start... times?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows XP 32 bit (old, I know not = X) and it has been a fairly reliable computer for most, but in recent weeks, he has been acting strangely... When I start it up and look at the amount of space on my C:, is what is the correct number, as now, it should be at about 9 GB of free space. But as I leave it on, even after a few minutes, the space begins to disappear, and he continues to drop until I have literally 0 kilobytes of hard disk space. The caveat on the system tray appears and all say that I am low on free space and recommend a scan or something the computer to clear it up. It does nothing tho, to the extent where to find anything to clear up other than a few small files. But when I restart my laptop, all space is back and the process of losing my space starts again without fail. I also disabled the function of backup/restore system or whatever it is and I ran several antivirus, malware scans scans and practically everything I could think of that might find what does not. I have nothing extraordinary is not done with my system and have not downloaded anything of squint a little, and yet I can't find the problem. It worries me that it COULD be a virus or something, then... Anyone have any ideas? Would be REALLY grateful for the help = / thanks for this reading, sorry I'm so long-winded...: P

It sounds as if something is the generation of temporary files.  If you are able to download something before the disk fills up, get JDiskReport and install it.  If you are able to run at least a part of the space has been eaten, it should show you what files are too much space and this should give you an idea of the process who does.

If you use TrendMicro, I saw reports it can generate log files large, perhaps when running in "debug" mode, although nothing quite matches the description you give.  See, for example, two John Sulko positions in this thread (unfortunately, the link does not work): http://tinyurl.com/3hfw8d5 the closest thing I could find in trend discussions was as follows: http://tinyurl.com/3dtaeuq

How to increase space of that backup will use more than the default value of 30%? I have a dedicated backup drive and don't need any reserve. Thank you.

    Hello Imer Satz,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forums.

    1. click on manage space.

If you have not created a backup, you won't see manage space.

    2. to change the amount of space used by backups of files, under the backup of data files, click View backups.

I hope that this answer to your questions, if you need further assistance please come back and post, we are more than happy to help you.

  • Adding space to store data after DAS RAID expansion

    Hello all,.

I was browsing and found some jobs, but never a direct answer to my problem, so I hope someone can point my research in the right direction, at least.

I have a server (Dell 2950) with a matrix of drives RAID5 4 direct-attached storage.  I installed ESXi 4 (as a default value, possible stock) on this subject and have used for a while.  I decided that I needed more space, so I added a record 5th in the matrix RAID (via OpenManage).  I am now trying to use this space, but hit dead ends.  On the properties of the data store, when I click on the increase, it doesn't give me a measure to increase with. (See screenshot, attached, ignore the NAS1 data store, it is not related to this).

From my reading of the post, I think that my problem is that I don't have this new space in my table in one of my partitions.  And since I have already 4 partititions (stock ESXi config as far I can tell because I don't create manually a), I can't add another partition.

Here is my complication to my problem, I'm not a Linux guy, so I will try to understand both a > what I do exactly and b > what are the linux commands to do so.  Can I use SSH to access a console.

I think what I have to do is either remove that #4 (what is this thing anyway?) of extended partition and then add all my new space as a 4th partition or expand this 4th partition to incorporate all my new space.  And then I think I need to format this partition as VMFS.  Then, #1 question: am I right on what do I do here?  Question #2: Someone can get me on the right track to find the exact command/syntax to do?

The other bad news is that it is a production box.  The good news is, I have very good before you start and working out of hours possible backups.  I could just save it, wipe it all out, start over and restore, but that will be my production box down for a few hours for you (in the middle of the night, but I'd still like to avoid this if possible).  I prefer to do over time much less down, and I think that there must be a way to do that, certainly, I can't be the first person to never weant to increase the DAS storage on a box of ESXi... Wipe-out/restoration is my backup plan in case I just spoil the process...

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Jim

You don't destroy your store of data through this approach. Everything that do you is delete and re-create the (larger) VMFS partition using fdisk. It won't hurt to the data on this VMFS partition (unless you change the boot block).
