RDM use space on the store data or SAN

Dear all,

According to my understanding, RDM creates a mapping file in the data store in the folder of the virtual machine, but it consumes all of the space on the data store, but yes, on SAN. I have a virtual machine with 50 GB vmdk and a physical RDM 50 GB, the machine's memory is 8 GB so vsphere client, seems space put into service for machine to 108. So it means that 50 GB of RDM is also included in funded space shown in vsphere client.

The same look at space of data store, the space of data store configured showing also 50 GB RDM counted in the space provided, where, as the data must be on the SAN, can someone explain why in the data store space calculation as rdm as space accrued on himself.

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

Thank you

As the rdm file uses no space disk (only a few bytes of the header/descriptor file), the disk space is still available for other virtual machines.

  • Space in the store of data not released when a virtual machine is removed

    Hey all,.

I have a game fairly simple up - two servers ESXi 2 Terminal servers. I'll have a problem, but with space in the store of data not be released on one of them after that I got a clone to the virtual machine, made my changes and removed the original. I can find no record anywhere, using vSphere (not in the inventory or when I browse the data store), but the HARD drive space using the server is still assigned somewhere.

Any body have tips on where to find or how to fix this if it is indeed a problem?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Not enough space on the store of data error

I just created a new virtual machine and the data store has 1 GB free, but when I try to turn on the virtual machine, I get the error ' not enough space on the data error store '.

What is the minimum data required to power the virtual computer space? I thought that 1 GB is a lot of space...

That is also correct long as you do not have a defined reserve, because don't forget the size of the by vm vmkernel swap file is equal to the memory assigned to the virtual machine minus the reserve memory.

  • ESXi 4.0.0 wrong amount of space available to store DATA on DELL 2950

    Hi community

Well, we brought brand new DELL 2950 server, with following Config Hard / w.

    750 GB x 6 SAS, RAID 10 disks configured.

    Processor Xeon 2 x 2.83

    32 GB OF RAM

We installed ESXi 4.0 and use the vSphere client for management host, our problem is when we try to add "datastore" it shows still only 45 GB of available space, while storage contoller shows good disc size as 2. 0 t, we tried a new analysis and fresh of the controller and disks, but nothing helped.

Any suggestions on how we should make our 2. 0 t drive as long as the available space for the DATA store? Please see atacched JPG for problem

  • When storing photos on iCloud to use space on the iPhone too?

I have an iPhone 6 Plus.  If I store photos in iCloud there also use space on my iPhone? The reason why I ask is because I have a friend who has a Samsung phone and it has several thousand pictures on this topic, but it can install an SD card inside the phone and is where his photos. It uses no space on his phone.  I wonder if I can do the same thing using iCloud?

iCloud is a synchronization system, not an external 'hard drive '. If you remove them on your device, they will remove icloud. To increase the available space, go settings/iCloud/Photos and select optimize iPhone/iPad storage. That will reduce the space required by 90% when it is fully effective. There is no SD card option.

  • Cannot take account of 11.5 GB used space on the drive "C".

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 5150 with an internal drive. Win XP SP3. According to 'My computer' 'C' drive is GB 229 with free = 156 GB 73 GB used. That's what it also shows when I check 'properties' for drive 'C '.

I checked the 'properties' of what I see on the drive "C" (from Windows Explorer - properties) and when I add I just only 62 GB used. So, I can't explain for about 11 GB of used space.

Does this sound right? I show the 'hidden' files, so they are taken into account. All the ideas that I can't see?

    Thanks for any help/tips

I'd be interested to see a report of Disk Defragmenter. Open Disk Defragmenter and click analysis. Select view report, and then click Save as and save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents folder. Open the file, place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edition, select all to select all the text and copy and paste into the body of your message. To do this, before you run Disk Defragmenter because it is more informative.

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter

Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before that the error occurred initially, do not use this option.

Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, view, advanced settings and check the box in front of "show files and folders" and 'Hide protected operating system files' are unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second element. You should also make sure that the box before "Hide extensions of known file types" is not checked. Notwithstanding, there are some files that are hidden. Again, you will not see the System Volume Information folder.

Access to the System Volume Information folder

Some files to hide the backup software and these can be very large. Usually, they fragment and so will appear in the list of more than Fragment files in a Disk Defragmenter report.

Some security software also hides files. Symantec may have started this practice when they first introduced Protected Storage. Others followed, then consider this option if you do not find the reason of an unexplained gap during reconciliation occupied disk space more saved disk space for the capacity of the disk.

  • Using DBMS_DATAPUMP with the LONG data type

I have a procedure below that calls the DBMS_DATAPUMP procedure using a REMOTE_LINK move a schema of one database to another. However, some tables in this schema have columns with the data type of LONG. And when I run it I get an error saying that you cannot move the data with the LONG data type using a REMOTE CONNECTION. So no data in these specific tables gets flying over.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so, do you have a work around? I tried to add a CLOB column in my table and affecting the new CLOB equal THROUGHOUT, but I couldn't get that to not work either... even when I tried to use a TO_LOB. If I could get that pass, then I could just slide ALONG, the schema, and then re-create the LONG column on the opposite side.

TO_LOB can be used to insert, create table in select and update the instructions to convert

    So: You simply cannot use it in SELECT..., you can use CREATE TABLE BLAH AS SELECT TO_LOB (LONG_COLUMN) OF DREADED_TABLE_WITH_LONG_COL;

  • Cannot use spaces at the beginning of the second line of wrapped text

    Hello!

    My question is simple:

When I got the text inside a text box, and it wraps at the end of the box, why can't put spaces at the beginning of the second line (the wrapped)?

Because the beginnings of words always wrap to the next line, with spaces accumulate after the word at the end of the previous line.  Any text automatically formatting process skin for it.

If you want seats at the front, press return first, to force the start of a new line, and then type your spaces.

  • 1.5 TB in the store data but only 850 GB configured, there are increases of 100GB

I'm sure this has been asked and I'm sure there's KB and answer on this, but for some reason my search terms are coated quite desolate specific instructions not in advance if you think I should have found the answer on my own.

In any case, ESXi 4, 1.35 TB in datastore1, 868GB provisioned - 788 GB Used, 475 GB free. I have a server with the shots that I need to clear, but I'm afraid that there is not enough room to do this direct removal. I would like to make off with the prompt deletion but is a production company and with no idea how long the merge/delete would take that all is not an option. The guest virtual computer is about 150 GB used with the installation of disc 3, 100, 200, 200, so my way of thinking was the simple solution would be to use a part of this 475 GB Free and slide it on in the configured space, say 150 GB but I give, how the hell can I do that?

I want to stay within the VSphere client or use a command-line linux tools limited amout and want to live if possible, you would think that you can.

Another option would be to reduce the hard disks assigned to the virtual machine as the 200 GB 20 GB used, the 100 GB about barely used 40 GB. Leaving the only boot OS if I those of readers has declined while the snapshot delete would be that help and an easier way?

Snapshots are OLD, so let's assume that they will require the full space possible amout to merge. One of them has been since the OS has loaded some two years, well before the databases have all the data or who knows what else (this is not my server, I got).

The file .vmsd you PM'd me is partially damaged, that is, it has more than one entry with the same uid, pointing to the same uid parent but the names of different parent disk! But anyway, if you can confirm that the current virtual disk in the .vmx file name is '... 000005.vmdk', it should work to delete/merge the first (your) snapshot in the Snapshot Manager and once the last single snapshot is here, and then use the "delete all" button to delete/merge. He will ignore the entries .vmsd and should also clean the file.

  • upgrade to ESXi 5.5 to 5.5 U2 on a new flash drive. Kept the store data but finding no VM rescan

Our flash drive went ill at 5.5 U2 on a new flash drive, I installed and made sure the data store was not touched. On exploitation forest back in vpshere that I see our host and I can see the data store but when I choose a new analysis, it's over in a second and no VM appear. I'm waiting for a call back from VMware as I a case of open pension but over time, I expect I thought I'd post here to see if I can resolve it more quickly.

FYI, when I right click and 'Browse' the VMDB I can see all of the folders in the VM

    esxi sh1.JPG

If you have a new installation of 5.5 U2 not an upgrade, correct?

Go to the place in your screenshot host-> Configuration-> storage and do a right click on the data store and choose 'Browse the data store' in the menu.

Cross each subfolder of the VMs real and right click on the . VMX file (this is the VM configuration file) and choose "add to inventory" in the menu.

Do this for each VM on the data store.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

This problem just started recently?  Any changes made to your computer just before this show appeared, like new hardware or installed software or updates applied?

If you have installed a new CD/DVD software it may be at the origin of the conflict.  Try to uninstall all software disc that may have come with your disks and then test it.

Try to do a system restore to before the problem started.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:
Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
In the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.
In the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.
    Click Finish.
The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

    Not enough information really.

What is this "40 GB in the previous installations of windows" do you speak?
Can you be more precise all around?

17% of how much?  After all, if I have 17% free on a system, which could be > 600 GB with a single physical hard disk and a single partition.

  • Use the case of the Cluster data without DRS storage store?

Can someone tell me please the use case of the Cluster data without DRS storage store?

    Virtually no,.

The only one that is useful is the aggregation of resources of data warehouses in a cluster data store. But it is aggregation of resources in its crudest form. When you create a virtual machine and the use of a cluster as the destination data store, you must always select the data store that will store the virtual machine.

    Storage DRS off =

    No calculation of initial investment

    No space load balancing

    No I/O load balancing

    No rule affinity VMDK

    No maintenance mode

For this purpose a group of data without active DRS storage store is a kind of a data store folder.
