ESXi 4.1 HP DL380G7 NIC cross!

Hello

This is my first thread here, and I am fairly new to ESXi and VMware. Have implemented the server into the row object with ESXi 4.1 (Essentials). The machine has 4 integrated network cards and an extra card to card 4 NETWORK ports. Integrated NICS are allocated to virtual machines and works very well.

Meanwhile, I managed somehow allow 4 additional ports to pass through. I wonder how I can now assign them to a virtual machine. Directly connected to the virtual-host computer with my vSphere client, nor with the vSphere client connected to my server vCenter (on another machine) I can assign them - they are not in the list of available adapters.

Anyone with a Tip 4 me?

Thanks in advance, Dirk

Hopefully this kb should work for you.

  • Install ESXI embedded will not recognize NIC

I tried to install a server ESXI embedded last night, but the facility when it does not recognize that there is a network card installed.

I have a network card added, it's the value connected and connect to power on.  At the beginning I wanted to set up all my virtual machines in a network segment local so I thought maybe it was the question so I turned off the VM and changed the NETWORK card to one host adapter, but the installation always fails with the same error.

Does anyone else have this problem?  The installation cannot continue without detect a network card.

I already have a virtual 2008R2 domain controller and NETWORK adapter works fine.

    Welcome to the community,

ESXi you selected as the guest in the Wizard New VM operating system. The virtual NETWORK card model that is used/created for the virtual machine depends on the selection of the OS. Open the virtual machine configuration (.vmx) file to see what kind of NETWORK card has been created and add ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000" if it does not exist. If you want to manually change the file mark .vmx that tab of the virtual machine in VMware Workstation is closed, so that the configuration file is reread once you are done with editing.

  • ESXi 4.1 - DRS & vSwitch NIC w/Zero

In order to work on some issues to address IP we came up with this solution...

We have implemented a new vSwitch named VM with ZERO physical NIC network.

We change the NIC of each VM VDI to the VM network.

We have installed and configired a Win 2008 R2 server.  His first NETWORK card is connected to a vSwitch with 6 physical network connected to our internal network interface cards.  Its second NETWORK adapter is connected to the VM network as above.

We run WHAT DHCP networking of VM-related.

We have configured the traffic between two network routing maps.

I added the static out the main router routes so for a different subnet, we can get on the network of the VM.

This configuration is running on our three hosts.  The network of the VM on each host has a different IP subnet.  We also use the DRS through the three hosts.

I have a test VM VDI.  When I try to manually migrate this virtual machine to one of the other guests, I get a warning that 1 network adapter is a "virtual intranet", which prevents a live migration.  If I can stop the virtual computer and do the migration, I still get the warning, but it allows me to move forward and the VDI VM test works.

Island of main quest is, if we were to change our production VDI VMs to the diagram above (where 1 network adapter) is the network of the virtual machine (which is considered as a "virtual intranet"), will be able to move the VDI virtual machines to one of the hosts DRS or it will fail?

    Thanks in advance

    Migration of virtual machine test:

If a virtual machine has a vNIC attached to a vSwitch internal network that has no assigned natachasery there is a question about vMotion, DRS ofc is based on, but can be resolved by configuring the vpxd.cfg on the vCenter server...

  • ESXi and NetXen 4port NC375T NIC

Apparently, are supported for this card was released with ESXi 3.5 U5.  However, my box of ESXi running ESXi 4 U1 does not appear to support it.  I know that the card is detected because I can see it by looking at the screen "Set up Passthrough".  Does anyone else have this card works in an ESXi 4 machine?

You can keep an eye here because their driver can be found here - http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#drivers_tools.  Have you checked their website to download it?

  • VMWare ESXi 4 on Dell R710 shows no other Intel Nic

    Hello

I installed VMWare ESXi 4 on a new Dell R710 server with integrated Broadcom 4 Port NETWORK interface and a network card additional Intel 4 Port. In the Vsphere Client now I only see the NIC. Broadcom onboard

The additional INTEL Nic does not appear upward.  But I can see VMWare ESXi 4 acknowledged the Intel NIC in Advanced Settings Configuration VMDirectPath.

Any help with this would be great.

  • If the kernel sees the network adapter (checked with lspci - v | less) that I still need to provide a driver for that card visible to ESXi?

I have an old Quad NIC card which is considered by the kernel. (lspci - v | less ) but I can't see with esxcfg-NICS-l

How can I set up is available to ESXi?

    The card is

Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21142/43 (rev 41)

    Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company 10/100Base-TX (PCI) [A5506B]

    Thank you

    PF

Yes, the LSPCI command is just an output of what devices are connected on the slot PCI on the hardware running ESXi.

the esxcfg-NICS - l command would be listed only those network port what host can use to send traffic (which was only after installation of the driver)

The names of card does not seem to listed on vmware HCL VMware Compatibility Guide: search system

Would say to confirm that this map is a counterpart device and install the driver for the device so that esxi can be used for network traffic.

  • 2 networks, 2 NIC, 1 management

I searched in many places, but I can't seem to figure out how to get my ESXi Management Console for 'reply' from 2 different subnets. I have 1 Server ESXi 5.1, there 4 NIC I have two separate networks (i.e. 192.168.0.0/24 and 10.0.0.0/20). I have a NETWORK card physical separate, connected to each network. I want to be able to connect to (using the vSphere Client) my server ESXi from each network. To keep things simple, I also want the Standalone Converter to send a copy of the physical machine ESXi from the PC which is on these separate networks. (I would like to do a lot, so sneaker net is not an reasonable option.) Any ideas? Or good places to look? Or search for terms that get closer?

    Thank you.

Welcome to the community - you will need to create a second with about vmkernel port one IP address on the second network, you can create a router either physical or virtual which can create a binding between the network two -.

  • ESXi test with disconnected network run?

I practice the migration of my current server VMware ESXi 5 2 environment.  Everything seems smooth with the conversion to the test area that will hold everything until the new server is in place.  I wish I could on ESXi machines just to make sure I can document the traps and understand the fixes before doing it for real in fact.

I use the 5 ESXi as a virtual machine on my 8 processor AMD FX-8350 4.0 Workstation (4 allocated) GHz with 16 GB of RAM (8 GB allocated) and a TB of space assigned to the datastore1 of the VM.  I installed a second NETWORK card and configured the virtual computer to use it. I installed the client vSphere on the workstation itself.  I also created a virtual machine inside the VM ESXi running server 2008 std, vsphere client and veeam tools.

    Hello

    Here are two options.

    First option

Right click on virtual machine---> edit configuration---> network adapter---> uncheck the box to connect to the power on option.

    Second Option:

Create virtua vswitch on ESXi host without adding any nic vSwitch. Create machine virtual portgroup in this vswtich. Add this port group to this machine of virtua.

Both this option will be the machine of course that is not network.

  • Two networks, ESXi Server?

We have two server VLAN in our environment (99 and 30). The 99 (10.99.x.x) is old and slowly be phased out and machines are moved to the 30 most recent (10.10.30.x). I also work on an upgrade to VMware infrastructure. We have a mixture of former host ESX 3.x and 4.x and ESXi 4.1 will visit. (I'm also relatively new to VMware so forgive my ignorance). My question concerns the following scenario.

Host 1 is on the LAN 10.10.30.x and a few machines running. I need to do an upgrade on this host, but first migrate the machines off.

Host 2 is on the LAN 10.99.x.x but we want the version of ESXi. I'll use this as a waiting area for machines while their hosts are upgraded. There are 2 NETWORK interface on this host card, NIC0 is configured on the VLAN 99 with management related to her network. I created a second virtual switch and he attributed to NIC1. This NIC is connected to a switch that has the switchport configured on the VLAN 30.

I'm lost what to set up then. (Maybe nothing) Perhaps I am confused because I had to put an IP address on NIC0 (network management). I have to NIC1 IP with another network management? I would stay on the 99 VLAN NIC0 and NIC1 to be on VLAN 30 so when I transfer machines to the host, I can configure just the appropriate VSwitch so I don't have to re - IP them.

    Welcome to the community,

virtual networks are not very different physical networks. The IP address you assign, is assigned to the management of ESXi host, not to the NIC itself, it is not necessary to attribute the anthers IP address to the other network adapter.

What I recommend is that you plan to configure the network using the VST host, i.e. configure physical ports as junction (for Cisco) ports or ports (for other providers) tag and assigning the VLAN ID on the groups of individual ports. In this way, you can use a unique vSwitch with two uplinks connected for a better distribution of redundancy and load.

  • Add Teddy after installing ESXi 5

    Hello

Can we add physical ESXi Server NETWORK card after we have installed ESXi 5 in the box? ESXi 5 will detect new physical network cards?

I have a lab at home at home with a beefy server that I have VMware workstation 8 installed top.

I created 7 VMs to be also my ESXi servers, a domain controller and a server vCenter Server (all virtual machines)

My original for ESXi virtual machines configuration had 8 NIC in them for doing tests. (especially dVS)

After VM 4th, ESXi, I forgot to add NICs while I was creating the virtual and installed ESXi machine with only 1 nic card.

After you add the esxi in my vcenter, I recognized my mistake. So I stop the ESXi and added 7 NICs more.

My assumption was after the restart of the ESXi, new network cards will be detected. But apparently not.

I know that I have not hit any maximum rates in my VMware workstation 8 because in ESXi6 and ESXi7, I remembered to add NIC cards prior to installation, and I can see them in my vCenter Server.

What Miss me? Is it because the ESXi are nested or even in the physical environment if I add NICs, they will not be detected after reboot?

I'm sure that this was not the case in vSphere 4.

    Thank you

    Hello

perhaps rather E1000 vNIC you added the VMXNET card? I have this same setup as the yours, and each time when I add a new vNIC to my virtual ESXi detects the new adapter

  • Cannot open Server ESXi 4.0 from the assessment of vCenter Server has expired. Help, please

By mistake, I forgot to remove an ESXi, vCenter server after the expiration of the evaluation period. Now I can not open vSphere client (for particular ESXi) and cannot access (via vSPhere client 4) one of my virtual machines. Is it possible (except re installation) to access vSphere client?

  • Cannot take snapshots

Hi everyone, hoping to see if there is a solution to this. I have a SCO Unix VM working fine, after doing a P2V and juggle with drivers etc.

Now on a test office system where I have ESXi 5.0 is installed, I was able to use Veeam to perform a backup.

After using the same VM, but the only difference is that I have an old NIC crossed to the virtual machine (and on a map server) must not be snapshots (shaded out in the Client) and Veeam fails to take a backup by saying "error creating snapshot: the operation is not allowed in the current state."

All I can do to take pictures again and therefore get Veeam working again? A pull-out decision of PCI NIC active the problem?

    Hi Aaron,

Since you are using IO VMdirectpatch you can not take pictures and also you will lose the rest of the features of virtualization.

  • Installation and use of POWERVAULT 114 X Windows

    Hi all

We recently spent a few thousand pounds to buy a POWERVAULT 114 X system with a LTO-6 car inside. I have a Dell server running VMWare ESXi. I've configured VMWare (cross) and the SAS HBA is installed and visible on my Windows 2008 R2 server. Everything seems fine, except that I can't see the tape drive. I installed Backup Exec 2012 on the server and it does not detect the drive.

I looked everywhere for a Windows driver for the band or any other necessary software, but I can't find anything anywhere (outside some updates of the firmware), no documentation at all. nothing. Clearly, Miss something.

Can someone advise please? I'm scratching my head bald figure this.

The question that you are running is with ESXi and use with DRUNK and the tape drive. Here is a link that has some info which should answer the questions that you encounter.

  • not visible on the switch Catalyst 2960 vNIC...

    Dear all,

I configured the UCS chassis with 5 blades and installed the esxi on all five blades...

I created a VNIC 10 per server and by now I have ip for esxi management by combining two NICs for and YEW is connected to the switch catalyst 2960. The uplinks are 1 Gig at the END and at the end of the switch... and I made these trunk at the end of the switch, all permitted the VLAN on the trunk link

I have configured all the VLANS on during vNIC based on a model and all of those selected. vlan1 is the vlan by default & selected the same.

Please help me to solve the problem... I got tired of all the means & could not able to find a solution.

    Kind regards

    Greetings.

Please confirm you learn your esxi mgmt addresses (VMK0 will inherit mac vnic UCSM) on FI: #connect nxos

    #See table of mac addresses

Do the same on your 2960 switches.  You see the mac addresses on the ports of 2960 connected for the UCSM uplinks?

Your uplinks UCSM go the 2960 into a port channel?

    Thank you
