ESXi 5.0 boot partition size

What is the size of storage recommended for installing ESXi 5.0?

I recommend you do at least 6 GB (I usually use 10GB). Depends on how the systems of storage performer GBs (1 GB = 1,000 * 1,000 KB or 1,024 * 1,024 kb) 5 GB may not be enough.

EDIT: fixed the calculation for 1 GB

  • CentOS/Boot partition size defined in VMWare Workstation?

    Guys,

Just installed a new machine virtual (CentOS), but I can't launch a 'yum update' because the partition/Boot is not big enough.  Says I need more than 24MB.

I prefer not to use Gparted to resize it.

How do you define the partition size when you create a new virtual machine?  I saw an option to set the virtual disk - which I have set for 100 GB.

    TIA

In case you want to set your own values, do not use EasyInstall. Use the custom option, and then select 'I'll install the operating system later' when you create the virtual machine and then manually run the installation of OS.

Others have suggested to set parameter SATA AHCI controller. Not possible in my BIOS. I 'ATA Mode' and 'Off '. "Off" turns off the entire controller and my hard drive is not recognized.

Others still suggested to install on a USB key. Wary of such a hack...

Help, please. There is very little out there on ESXi 4. Even a pointer to VMware documentation with a list of error messages and their meaning/solutions would be helpful (unable to find such a list myself).

I had the same problem that others are with the start-up for the drives. I went with the USB boot and it works very well because it has an internal USB port, it works even better because I'm not burn an external port. I use an older version of BIOS that does not start USB ports have enough fast for the key USB is recognized from a cold start *bummer* but not a big deal. Once this is done, I'm off the coast and run very well.

I would recommend going this way until someone comes up with a better alternative, which I would be interested in doing.

Try to install on a USB key. You don't need to be over 1 GB.

It sounds like this host has already been improved 3.x! In this case you will not be able to upgrade to 5.x using the Manager to update because of the small partition/boot (99 MB).

to remedy the hosts against a basic upgrade

... You cannot use Update Manager to upgrade to 5.0 ESXi host, if the host has upgraded ESX 3.x to ESX 4.x. These hosts have not enough free space in the partition/Boot to support the process of update Update Manager. Use either interactive or scripted upgrade.

  • Professional W7 x 64 Tecra A11-128: 1.45 GB boot partition

    Hello

I'm about to reinstall W7 Professional x 64 and my partition tool shows me, that the Toshiba factory installation consists of:
    * one * boot partition * 1.45 GB size (most are empty)
    * the * root partition * 289 GB (storage of operating system and other things OEM)
As I intend to reinstall the same version of W7 (using the W7 license), I see no reason to keep the boot partition (BitLocker for Ultimate...).
Does anyone know why the boot partition which is supposed to be 100 to 200 MB at the most, that is great?

What all simply let down that partition and reinstall W7 Professional x 64 in a new preformatted, empty partition?
In this way, the Windows installation should not create a boot partition and just use a primary partition.
Are there any additional (Toshiba) tools using the partition start hidden and if so, which?

    Thank you for your ideas!

In my opinion all these partitions and the whole structure of the partitions is not so important if you want to install own OS.
Create a recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. These recovery disks, you can use for installing the OS where you want to have the factory (out of the box) settings again.

When the recovery disks are created, you can do whatever you want. Delete all partitions, create a clean partition and install Win7 professional. Configure the second or the third partition, depending on your needs, optimize the operating system preinstalled and be happy.

This is my only idea. I did the same thing in the past, I did it on my Satellite A660 and I will do this in the future.

    Good bye

  • Z580 i5, 500 GB with no windows 7 - default partition size.

    Hello everyone.

I spent the last 3 hours of googling and reading this forum especially for all information on the system of the okr and the size of the partition.

unfortunly, I wasn't aware of the importance of the drive d partition and I wiped it and it has merged drive c.

After a few experemiting with the sizes of the partitions, I was able to use the okr system and create a back up of my system (windows 7 ulitmate). However when I try to use the back up to restore my pc it says that I can't move forward because the size of partition is not default.

I want to know is what was the partitions by default in order to get the okr system works properly.

If any lenovo emploey can check the z580 with 500 GB model, with no partitions windows 7, I will be verry gratefull.

I remember that I got 4 partitions at startup:

    1. no system of labels with boot partition files (as I remember it was 29-30 gb)

    2 C drive - with close to 400 GB.

    3. d-arround 30 GB drive (used for the lenovo system okr I think).

    4. last disc is 1.5 GB with some software from lenovo.

Please if any1 buys a new Z580 500 GB, pls write on this thread what was your default partitions (exact size + type of partition: fat32/ntfs etc.).

Thanks for reading and I hope that a good person can help me cope with this problam.

OK, after much reading on the forum here, I was able to find a some1 post, which was close enough problam as I had and I did as he suggested, and it worked.

Allow me to explain people what I did for any1 who could be on the same problam like me:

first of all, let me say what I had at the time of the problam of partitions:

    1. with no label - system partition (containing the boot system files) - used to be 29 gb.

2 drive c-400 GB (location of windows 7).

    3. d-ntfs partition 29,32 gb drive

4 lenovo-part - partition (hidden, and btw I have not touched it since I baught pc) 1.08 GB.

what I've done is pretty simple:

    1. I reinstalled everything first OKR disc system I got with the pc.

    2. with a partition management program, I deleted the d drive partition and gave all its space on the system partition.

what I once changes is therefore:

    1 partition-arround 60 GB system.

    2 drive c: 400Go

    3. lenovo-part 1.08.

Anyway, at this time, I was able to create my system restore by using System okr but also to recover using the recovery at startup mode.

    hope this helps any1.

  • vCenter Converter - P2V migration without dedicated boot partition

    Hello

I'm looking to migrate to a physical computer to my ESXi cluster with vCenter Converter but actually I got this following error message:

There is no directory "/ boot", mounted on the source machine. It is necessary to create a virtual bootable. Mount the directory "/ boot" on the source machine.

Is it possible to ignore this message? In fact, this server is in production and I don't have any space on my hard drive to create another partition.

I would like to know if we can convert a physical machine to a virtual machine without a dedicated boot partition.

Note: I had a folder/boot but mounted on my.

If anyone has any advice on this subject will be useful

Yes, in theory, you can. / boot directory under / is OK, but this error message is a bit misleading - I'd say converter couldn't recognize your * discs * and so no partitions mounted, so he couldn't find/boot as a separate partition or as a directory under /. You use some software RAID (md) on your source server?

  • I accidentally deleted my boot partition

I tried to install Windows 10 using Bootcamp but it failed and I had to start. I thought I had deleted the Bootcamp partition, but I accidentally deleted the main boot partition for Mac OS. When I try to start my Mac Apple logo appears for a while, then finally I do not see an entry sign.

In an attempt to solve this problem, I started my Mac upward into recovery mode and reinstalled Mac OS on the partition that I created for the thought of Windows, I would be able to access my files and pass them to the new facility. Mac OS installed fine, but I now have a 800 GB partition, I can't access. He appears in disk utility, but I can not unlock or fix it.

Question is, can I repair the boot partition and to come back to how I was before I screwed up?

Or, is it possible to unlock the main so partition that I can access it from the new installation, back up everything can start all over again?

What do you backup before you start this project?

  • How to increase partition size Windows 8 main drive (C :)

I upgraded my PC from XP to windows 8 online.

I never had the ability to change my partition sizes.

Windows 8 consumes 20GB of disk space more then XP.

So now I'm running out of storage.

Currently I have a 1 TB drive... 100 GB primary and 900 GB of data.

How can I change the primary C: to 200 GB?

You will need to use a third-party tool to do this.

Two of the most popular seem to be (the two free BTW):

    GParted

  • How to restore the windows boot partition 8

During the formatting of some new partitions I created, I accidentally restructured my windows boot partition 8.

Is there a simple way to repair my boot partition without harming my other partitions?

    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

Try another set of orders. Follow the same steps provided in my previous steps to get the command prompt. Type the following commands and press ENTER after each:

    bcdedit/set {default} partition device = c:
    bcdedit/set {default} osdevice partition = c:
    bcdedit/set {bootmgr} partition device = c:

Check if you are able to boot in Windows 8.

  • How reduce the Win7 boot partition, then move the other partitions left in newly free space?

Summary: How can I shrink/move partitions on my HDD 650 GB physical so that they reside in the first 500 GB of that drive?

I have a newly purchased HP dm4-2070us laptop with Win 7 Home Premium (HP OEM) installed on the hard disk of 640 GB.  This hard drive is slow, so I would like to replace it with a 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT.

In order to be able to clone all the partitions of the 640 GB drive for the smallest 500 GB replacement drive, I need to shrink the partition C: (main window), then move the partitions remaining 'left' ending up with all partitions in the first 500 GB of the disk so I can then copy this image to the new drive of 500 GB.

I already have the software to clone the partitions of the 640 GB drive for the 500 GB drive.

    My concerns:

    (1) the administration tool Win7 disc printing should it allows me to shrink the C: boot partition, but I don't know if that can damage anything.

    (2) move the SYSTEM partition, or the partition RECOVERY left the impression that he could render the system unbootable.
