vCenter Converter - P2V migration without dedicated boot partition

Hello

I'm looking to migrate to a physical computer to my ESXi cluster with vCenter Converter but actually I got this following error message:

There is no directory "/ boot", mounted on the source machine. It is necessary to create a virtual bootable. Mount the directory "/ boot" on the source machine.

Is it possible to ignore this message? In fact, this server is in production and I don't have any space on my hard drive to create another partition.

I would like to know if we can convert a physical machine to a virtual machine without a dedicated boot partition.

Note: I had a folder/boot but mounted on my.

If anyone has any advice on this subject will be useful

Yes, in theory, you can. / boot directory under / is OK, but this error message is a bit misleading - I'd say converter couldn't recognize your * discs * and so no partitions mounted, so he couldn't find/boot as a separate partition or as a directory under /. You use some software RAID (md) on your source server?

    Hi all

Once the converter VMware-converter-en - 5.5.1 - 1682692 does not work, with a touch of friend uninstall the 5.5 version of Converter Standalone Client, look for the VMware converter version - 4.0.0 - 146302 and install this version to the other machine. No not that I had to be Converter, but the windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

After this race, the Standalone Client 4.4 Converter and everything work fine.

Now I have the P2V converted and good machine, as was the real operation!

    I thank all of you.

  • Preferred solution for P2V (vCenter Converter or VEEAM)

I am analyzing and is about to convert a list of the physical servers in vmware VMs and I was wondering what is the best solution to use. Use vCenter Converter or VEEAM? I want to know what most people use out there and all the pros and cons with each of them.

    Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, Veeam does not have any tool for p2v conversion. So, in this case, you'd better stick to VMware vCenter Converter. However, once the physical VMs remaining are converted, you will need something to save them. That's exactly where Veeam can become very useful for you.

    See you soon.

I used a copy of the installer on another computer Windows XP SP3, and installed correctly.

  • Shrink a Linux VM to esxi with Vcenter Converter 4

    Hello

I spend some time to try to reduce my VM but without real success so far.

I tried to use vCenter Converter 4.0 to do, but to to esxi esxi, it doesn't show the option in the drop-down list.

So I tried to export it to Vmware Workstation, and between a 71 GB VM, I had a VM 21 GB, which is much better! However, esxi cannot use format Worstation, and when I try to convert again, I find myself with the initial size of my VM...

Anyone know how I can shrink my VM in a way that I can still use them on esxi?

    Thank you very much.

You can use Linux P2V Converter Standalone4.0 to this (share).  You treat just the source of the virtual machine as a physical machine.  Then, you select a smaller size for the individual volumes in the 3rd page of the wizard.

  • dual boot partition management

I have a dual boot HDD, WinXP on the first partition and Win7 on the second partition and I want to get rid of XP and keep Win7.   I can delete the XP partition and expand Win7, but the result is unable to find ntldr error at startup.  All my user files are safe on a separate partition.  I don't want to have to reinstall Win7 and all other programs because it takes too long and besides, I really like Win7 install, I now and want to keep it as is, but without dual-boot.  I reinstalled the disk image, so now I can keep trying until I understand it.  So after I have delete the XP partition and expand the Win7 partition how do I Win7 to start?  Is there a file in the Win7 partition which causes the bios to look for XP? Can I find such a file and remove it for Win7 will start?

  • How to restore the windows boot partition 8

During the formatting of some new partitions I created, I accidentally restructured my windows boot partition 8.

My windows system partition 8 (containing all my files and soforth) did not suffer. When I inserted the disc of windows 8, I didn't see no simple method to reinstall my windows 8 boot partition without wiping the entire system (and other operating systems that I have on this computer).

Is there a simple way to repair my boot partition without harming my other partitions?

    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

Try another set of orders. Follow the same steps provided in my previous steps to get the command prompt. Type the following commands and press ENTER after each:

    bcdedit/set {default} partition device = c:
    bcdedit/set {default} osdevice partition = c:
    bcdedit/set {bootmgr} partition device = c:

Check if you are able to boot in Windows 8.

  • VMware vcenter converter standalone physical conversion to virtual stuck to the completion of 81% for several days

Hello everyone I have an interesting question, I'm physical conversion to virtual pointing to the new virtual directly on the server esx conversion would set schedule for a day. But now, it's just stuck at 81% and not go further! I don't get any errors of ideas? questions are there a basis that I can look to see what is happening? Is there a way I can fix it without start over again. There are enough resources on the destination esx I had to change the hard drive space for destination and ram, but done nothing radical imprint more small which I think should do better.

It's an interesting case, you have here. I guess that conversion is complete, but somehow you do not see or a deadlock occurred.

Anyway you will probably be able to export logs to the customer. Go to the directory of newspapers to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs (for WP/W3K) or vCenter Converter Standalone\logs %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware (for Vista +) and find the log of the last worker (vmware-converter-worker - .log #). The status of the conversion is currently connected. Take a look, or that she has finished, is still running, is stuck.

If he has you can try restarting the client and/or server converter service. Do not stop the worker service unless you are sure that there is no conversion running!

  • vCenter Converter Standalone to vSphere Hypervisor

    Here's the situation.

I would like to P2V convert an existing Windows 2000 Server and put the new virtual server in vSphere Hypervisor 5.1.

Is this possible with the free vCenter Converter Standalone?  What version of the converter is what I use for P2V Server 2000 machine and I then have to use an older version of ESXI instead of vSphere Hypervisor 5.1?
