ESXi 5.1 update 1 crashing randomly with Exception 14 purple #PF screen

Hello

We have occasional crashes on our VMware ESXi 5.1 hosts update 1.

The host will break and then all the vm is turned on on the hosts of the survivors

Purple death appears the following:

#PF exception 14 worldwide 8199:idle7 (image to see the attachment for more details)

vmcluster21.JPG

I exported the newspapers and peeked through the vmkernel logs but can't seem to see anything that appears really out, any ideas?

I've been reading around on the internet and forums with other people having this problem and it seems that on the version previous to esxi, it was a problem and vmware has released a fix. However with the latest version I seem to not really know

Hi guys, we have received information of VMware this morning just to update everyone.

The cause of our accident is limiting the flow of port groups. He has been identified in our crash and newspapers with the debug version of ESXi running.

The fix will be included in the following updates:

ESXi 5.1 Patch 04 - should be available by the end of April 2014.

ESXi 5.5 Patch 02 - should be available by the end of June 2014.

In the meantime the work around is to disable the limitation of the flow on port-groups

  • 5.5 ESXi. U1/2 crashes randomly at setup time

I'm trying to install ESXi 5.5 for two weeks, have been plagued with ESXi 5.5 U1/U2 hung at random stages without apparent reason. I am driven crazy with the absence of any suspicion of newspaper or error whatsoever.

    Random steps involved are:

    -user load successfully

    -loading lgb

    -loading lacp

    -loading ipmi_si_drv

I could not discern any pattern between these occurrences (I have reset the system at least 100 times).

I have a screenshot of console complete one of these hanging here-> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFzFjyw9kBU

This crash is captured with ignoreHeadless = TRUE flag spent... without this indicator, this step is successfully resolved, but fails at the step of «loading lgb...» "... result is the same - just a screen empty and either it resets the physical machine or the computer must be restarted manually.

It was captured with ESXi 5.5 U1 but the same with U2. I'm literally lost and can't even begin to think about what to do next... any help is greatly appreciated

Material is given in the video, but here it is again:

    -SuperMicro X10SLM + f

    -16 GB Crucial RAM ECC

-start-up out of Sandisk Extreme 32 GB USB stick (Rufus used to put the ISO on key, use the MBR or no UEFI)

    ignoreHeadless does not help.

IgnoreHeadless = TRUE flag used to help until I have decided the speed of the fan and did the following:

-used freeIpmi 1.3.4 to fund the fan settings and commit new ones (that took place without problems)

-given that the fans do not change their speed at the start I tried to Load Optimized Defaults (which did not help, but I soon discovered that I had to toggle power on motherboard fully as IPMI loaded the new settings)

So I currently think that a 'broken' stuff ESXi install - even if I would find it is amazing. Trying to load the IPMI factory defaults did nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions? I am beyond desperate at this point.

So after much fussing around and pull the hair, I have to admit I had accidentally stumbled upon the solution.

The question I had was not the strange material or a technical failure (RAM sticks are healthy and their removal or disabling LAN did nothing to help) - is the fact that I tried to install ESXi host without and attached to all SATA drives. As soon as I attached the SATA drive, just to have on hand, everything worked perfectly.

It was a totally accidental discovery - in a moment of desperation, I tried to start CentOS 7 ISO installation in an effort to install and boot from a USB stick (if all goes well to go even further and make a diagnosis). It failed with exactly the same symptoms as the ESXi except - he threw a message similar to 'no controller attached. That immediately caught my attention because it is the last stable and free distribution of server-level, which is not expected to have problems. Therefore, it must be the kernel itself (which is probably the only thing ESXi distro and CentOS7 have in common) behaves erratically when no SATA drive is connected. Helped by the message (which lacked efforts ESXi), I connected the HARD drive and - Oh surprise - everything that took place without a hitch.

My conclusion is this: for reasons that escape me, it seems (stock)? Linux kernel is having major problems installing on a system without attached SATA drive. Did just that manifests itself in this way with only this particular motherboard or other hardware component? I have no idea and would not to test any more - I'm just glad it works now.

On a personal note, I have worked with computers for the past 25 years, and this must be one of the best moments of bizzare/wtf 5 I've ever had.

    HTH someone.

After update my Pro iPad with iOS 9.3 iPad crashes on Safari. Example I googled something results appear, but I am not able to enter any page

It seems that it is a result of the update. Other users report it, and I also read that Apple is aware of the problem and working on a fix. Be patient and watch for an update. Some have reported that disabling Java script has worked for them. You need to check yourself.

  • Problem with Windows 7 Service Pack 1: the update process crashes during every start/restart

    Hello.

I downloaded the SP1 for Windows 7 from Microsoft Download Center (I had the Ultimate 64-bit edition initially installed on my computer). I ran the installer and went through the process of updating until the first reboot. Since that time, my system is unbootable not. Windows 7 starts to run and then the SP1 update process runs and applies the changes to the registry and system files. After awhile, the update process freezes and I have to turn off the computer with the power switch. This is repeated again and again each time you start. He stops to date when he reached update number 117880 of 334835 or 334835 117930 (but not always these specific), and he is trying to change some registry entries apparently: 'operation 334835 (\Reg...) 117880 update application', this is what is shown on the screen below the still glowing Windows logo.

In addition the secure boot mode, startup mode safe with networking, security console startup mode, last known good configuration options do not work. They all start to load but crash after a while (as if the same SP1 update process has been run in silent mode).

I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 from zero and all the applications that have been installed. The ERD that I generated after my initial installation can not solve the problem, nor the Windows 7 can install DVD. It doesn't let me do an upgrade from the original DVD since it has not be started from the hard drive and then launched from within Windows 7.

I looked in several discussions of the forum and found that my NTFS partition is marked 'active' as it should.

I plugged my HARD drive on another computer and have access to its content.

So is it possible to stop this automatic process and be able to start (in the original state of Windows 7)? At least to re - install Windows 7 via the DVD upgrade mode and then installing SP1 on a little further.

Perheaps the log files from the SP1 update process could be useful, but I don't know where they are on the HARD drive.

    Thanks for your help.

    Yo_54.

So is it possible to stop this automatic process and be able to start [...]?

    Hello.

My startup problem is resolved. Now I can start Windows 7 and use my system again.

I used the dism.exe tool back updates on hold through a wire found in the TechNet Forums: "C000009A update operation 334565 (\Registry\...) 119595 application error". loading SP1"(see link below).

I launched WinRE with my Windows 7 installation DVD, selected my C: partition where Windows 7 has been installed, click on the button 'Next', refused to the proposed repair phase, and then chose the prompt for commands and typed:

    DISM.exe / Image: c: \ / Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions

It took less than 15 minutes for the tool to the end I restarted my computer and waited a few operations update, then Windows restarted and more, and finally I was on my homescreen. After my connection, a dialog box been told that SP1 was installed (the winver.exe command showed that SP1 installed too).

I think that now that I have completely will be re - install Windows 7 in upgrade mode, recheck all the pre-requisites for SP1, uninstall all language but English modules, uninstalling my anti-virus and anti-spyware programs disconnect you from the Internet and run the standalone SP1 install package. I'm going to see if the problem is persistent and keep you posted.

But first I'll make an image of my C: drive system and store it somewhere safe!

I found the solution through this thread in the TechNet Forums:

  • ESXi 5.0 Update 1 with view Mode Local

I have problems using view Mode Local with ESXi 5.0 Update 1. When I try to go on the computer I get the following error, "this office cannot be extracted. The client does not support hardware version of the virtual machine. "We use View 5.0.1 Build-640055. At first I thought the View Client provided by the display server had not caught up with the hardware version of 5.0 update 1, so I downloaded and installed View Client 5.1.0 Build-704644 and I still get the same message. If someone could provide no indication about this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Skype crashing randomly

Since some updates my Skype crashes randomly every few minutes.

It started with the following symptom: whenever my woud disk HARD secondary spin up because I navigated to it in Windows Explorer when Windows Explorer and Skype would freeze and then finally Skype would break, release of Windows Explorer.

I changed the HARD drive forever and Skype still crashes randomly, even when I'm not using it but just it open in the background. Sometimes it works fine until half an hour before crashing, it takes less than a minute sometimes for her crashing again after the reboot.

I tried to completely reinstall Skype (including remove the Skype of AppData folder) but it has not fixed the accidents (a new installation of Skype with an existing user is annoying as hell, you will hear the DING almost constantly while it receives all messages passed...).

I have attached the report of the Windows event log below.

Thanks in advance for a solution.

  • Laptop crashing randomly while game

    Hey,.

I usually use my for cell phone games on. I played a lot of games and when Im done with the game I uninstall it. I tend to play online MMO and I was playin sleep since March and started playin World Of Warcraft has recently also. However, lately, the laptop crashes randomly when reading and my games and then sometimes struggled to turn back on.

I was wondering if it was an internal error with the fan, because it's very hot, or if I need to update the graphics drivers so it doesn't crash. I don't really know how to solve the problem and I can play games for 5 minutes before the laptop crashed and turns off.

    Hi Jack

It will be interesting to know what model of laptop you have. I presume that it is typical of overheating problem. When the temperature of the material is essential the laptop turns off simply without any warning. The same thing happens to you?
