  There is no difference in licensing.  The license number is issued for vSphere, and you can use with ESXi or ESX.

  If you are already registered for the 'free' ESXi licensed version, you can simply reuse the key. I believe that by default that the license takes supporting up to 100 free ESXi host. If you have a paid license, so make sure you have another license for this new host

• ESXi license message

  We have ESX 3.5 and virtual Ifrastructure who works very well.  I installed a free stand-alone host ESXi to use for a test environment.  I registered the ESXi license.  When I apply the license to the ESXi host I get the following message: "release current licenses: license source you selected doesn't include all the features under the license you are currently using."  Do you want to release all of your current license and still? "The message also joined this discussion.

  My guess is that this will simply replace evaluation of ESXi with the saved ESXi license license.  However, I don't want to harm our virtual infrastructure of production.  I am concerned because the license message does not appear in the literature or the knowledge base for ESX.  Can someone confirm if I click Yes I will be OK and that it only replaces the evaluation of ESXi with the saved license license?

  It is a standard received warning when moving to an evaluation license where you are allowed to do anything for a license with the support less features - there should be no impact on your production environment.

  I suspect that the Get-LicenseDataManager might be a better choice.

• New host ESXi licensing

  Hi guys,.

  I am currently working on a workflow for the provision of new hosts ESXi from scratch. Unfortunately, I glued on the new VMWare licensing to a host. I wanted to do this with a script element:

  Entry:

  Host (VC: HostSystem)

  License (String)

  Code:

  Host.configManager. licenseManager. licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, license, null);

  Unfortunately, this returns an error indicating licenseManager is null.

  Anyone know how to set the new licenseManager on the host or license in another way?

  OK, I got it myself. Instead of approaching licenseManager thanks Host.configManager I used instead of the VC:SdkConnection variable.

  SDK (VC:SdkConnection)

  LicenseKey (String)

  Code:

  SDK.licenseManager.licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, LicenseKey, null);

  This works perfectly!

• 5.1 Esxi licenses

  Hello

  At the present time, I have a VCentre 5 server with the host ESX 4.1 existing all under license.  I bought a new host, installed ESXi 5.1 and added to the existing cluster and I'm now trying to license it.  In the License Manager, I can see my available licenses, but I am unable to assign them, they remain greyed out.

  Does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm missing?

  OK, so you have ESXi 5.x license keys in vCenter... How many licenses you have?

  And for guests how much are? How much CPU must be by the host licenses?

  It is possible, that you need to combine license keys when your hosts have several CPU.

• ESXi licensing question

  I have ESXi 5.0 upwards and running with a new installation, leva Vsphere client and go and I cannot figure out where to put my license key.  In 4.0, it is under the administration, but in 5.0, I just roles and newspapers, no license.  If someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

  I feel like this is a stupid question and miss me just something, but for the life of me, I can't find where to put the license.  And, Yes, I searched on the community.

  1. Connection to the ESXi 5.0 directly using vSphere Client host.
  2. Click host ESXi 5.0 in the inventory, and then choose the Configuration tab.
  3. In the configuration tab click allowed under the software features.
  4. On the right side you will see change the hyperlink, click on it.
  5. Click on assign a new license key to the host, and then click the Enter key
  6. Enter the license key, and then click OK twice.
  7. Now you should see all the features of the product in your license.

  Sorry this post as I have a related thread opened yet, but:

  I ask because I am frustrated by is denied access to something that worked, and the only change I see is that I entered the license key last week. I spread the material, there must be setup somewhere.

  Yes - all access to storage etc will work always - it is only 'Advanced' features that are limited.

• Possible to downgrade ESXi license?

  If having already installed a certain license to an ESXi host, is it possible to change this license at a lower license type?

  (I know that a lot of things could go wrong if at all by using the features that can be deleted with the lower license, but I wonder if it's possible).

  If you try to apply the license key 'lower' with features enabled that are not covered by this license, you receive an error message, and the license will not apply. I saw a few times with the licenses of Essentials where someone tried to vMotion in Eval mode and the VMkernel ports had not been removed before applying the license key.

  I need the trial version of esxi which includes vmotion. I enterd my free license and the trial is expired. If I reinstall the software on my dell esxi 2950 shall she replaces the license and return to the mode of trial. I will also be able to delete my current VM on this machine. OT is a failure and I need vmotion their judgment to another host

  If you paste into the installation CD and run a 'install' it will wipe everything.   If you choose the repair facility of the database on the installation disc is preserved.   You can also reset the configuration of the host of the DCUI that has removed the config.  With the reboot and repair you must re-register your virtual machines.

  All licenses of this are paid licenses. You can check its features here.

  Here and here too you can learn what are the characteristics (or not) the free version of esxi.

• assessment of vSphere/vCenter with ESXi license error

  I downloaded vCenter assessment and ESXi 4 software.  I installed ESXi 4 on several different physical servers and configuration of the virtual computer on each of these hosts.  Also made free licenses on those hosts.  Then I installed vCenter assessment with a 90 day trial license.  But when I try to add the ESXi host to vCenter console, I get an error license not available to perform the operation.  How can I get past this so I can continue my assessment of this system?  Thank you.

  I think that the reason why you can not return to the eval license is because you have ESXi installed for more than 60 days.  Thus, the period of time eval has expired.  I just confirmed that I can return on a new install of ESXi, return to eval mode, while on a more-than-60 days ESXi host, I can't return to eval mode.

  Therefore, you need to reinstall in order to get a 60 day trial 'new' period of time, or buy a license with the desired features.
