ESXi Machine license, reusable House?

Hey people.

I'm having a devil of a time here, and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.  I recently updated my ESXi Server 4.1 here at home to 5.  The license I had to 4.1 was free, but of course does not include any medium for vMotion, etc..  She was approved for a stand-alone machine.

Such a license is available for 5?  I can't downgrade to 4.1, so I'm a bit stuck here.

Thank you!

  • VMware ESXi 5 licenses

    Hello

I think I have too much choice, but someone who has more experience on ESXi 5 licenses might have a better deal...

We have 2 locations for the moment, run 2 servers ESXi 5 the other branch done 3 of the same thing.

Once more the RAM on certain hosts would be awesome, and of course Central magagment would be great.

I found the key packs, like right now THAT HA no is not essential - VMware vSphere Essentials Kit would suffice - offers more RAM, centralized management, but only for 3 guests.

Seems I need centralized management for multiple hosts I choose Standard Kit of acceleration? But in this case, Miss me the ability to upgrade RAM - or not with the terms in the Kit of Essentials and is also much more expensive...

What seems the best offer price, buy two essential elements it's can I manage 5 hosts under the same server vCenter (guees not)?

Could someone give advice on this issue?

    Kind regards

... where your I find some information?

In the document of pricing and licenses white at http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf (page 7)

.. vCenter Server Standard begins from 6000 USD non-larger than 32 GB RAM... as well as other licenses...

With the acceleration Standard Kit, you get an instance of vCenter Server Standard more processor Standard with 32GB vRAM right 8 licenses each (256 GB total) and you can add additional CPU if necessary licenses. (see page 8 in the same document as above)

  • ESXi 4 license

I updgraded an esxi 3.5 to 4. Access to the host by using the vSphere client, I get the following message:

    *

    VMware assessment notice *.

Your evaluation license will expire in 59 days!

    * When the evaluation license expires, ESX host may stop to manage all the virtual machines in its inventory. In order to manage these machines, you need to upgrade your license to ESX host.

    *

The word "may" in the message makes the message clear.

Can someone clarify the situation what happens after the expiration of the evaluation period?

ESXi 4 is as free as ESXi 3.5. Don't mix assessment and free license.

Evaluation is equal to Enterprise more for 60 days, and simply enter the serial number provided by VMware for free.

  • VMware ESXi 4 license

I downloaded and install VWare 4 ESXi and Vsphere client with the understanding that I was using a license like the web page https://www.VMware.com/tryvmware/index.php?p=free-ESXi & LP = 1 States

    ========================

    VMware ESXi 4

Get a free license for VMware ESXi and create virtual machines in minutes with this easy to deploy operating system independent hypervisor.

    YOUR LICENSE INCLUDES

    • VMware ESXi 4

    • VMware vSphere Client

    ========================

But on the vsphere client, I receive the message "your evaluation license will expire in X days. I don't have a key that I applied when installing ESXi.

My understanding of the license is accurate.

You should have received your license key in an email from vmware or you can find it by logging in and going to the ESXi download page.

  • Transfer of personal use of Boot Camp Virtual Machine license

    Hello!

I bought a disc of system integrator OEM 64 - bit Windows 8 for use under the terms of the personal use license and it installed on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp.
It turns out that the integrated graphics (Intel HD 3000) is not available in configuration dual-boot.
so I cannot use the dedicated graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6750 M) (for which I should apparently accused Apple, but that's off-topic anyway).
Using the graphics card Intel (for example Quick Sync Video support) has been the reason why I chose a dual boot as opposed to a virtual machine configuration.
Because this does not work, I will try and transfer the installation on a virtual machine in the near future.
I understand that the personal use license does not allow me to run the two facilities (Boot Camp and VM), but do I have that right to say
the conditions of licence it is for me to transfer the license to a virtual machine, as I have delete the partition Boot Camp of my MacBook Pro?
Assuming the above is correct, how exactly would ensure the transfer is as painless as possible? For example:
-AFAICT I would have to get in touch with a Microsoft Product Activation Center by phone.
Is there a better and/or other method or is it my best bet?
-It would be best to call before you do anything, or only after the installation of Windows in the VM (i.e. upon activation)?
-Should what information I have ready to give Microsoft?
    Thank you

That's right, simply remove the installation of Boot Camp, then you can transfer to a virtual computer and reactivate by phone:

    1. press the Windows key + X , and then clickrun, and then type: slui.exe 4

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

    4. choose the option "activate phone".

    5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    6. explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Nope. activation of the phone is your only option.
-It would be best to call before you do anything, or only after the installation of Windows in the VM (i.e. upon activation)?
You can not, you make the call "after" you have transferred the license.
-Should what information I have ready to give Microsoft?

Your Confirmation ID, it will appear in the activation window.

Just in case someone stumbles across this, the answer is Yes.  VMWare Essentials includes the correct license.

  • ESXi 6 license for ESXi 5

    Hello

I have a Dell R510 I want to use as a VM host and so recorded for the free ESXi hypervisor and received a license key. However, this key is for v6 which is not supported on the R510.

I downloaded a custom Dell ESXi 5.5 image and so would like to know if I can use the v6 for v5.5 license key. If this is not the case, how can I get a v5 license key?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi RyanH84,

You are right to say that I needed to register for v5.5. I contact VMware support who wrote:

If I understand correctly, you need a license key for VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.5.

I wish to inform you that the license key can be obtained on the portal My of VMware "VMware vSphere Hypervisor Download Center" page. The default version for the hypervisor is Version 6.x.

There is an option to choose the version of the hypervisor required on the upper left side of the page. I've attached a screenshot of the same thing for your reference.

Please refer to the link below for more information on the download and licenses ESXi 5.x: http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2014574

It was not quite so simple I had to connect to My VMware > go to all downloads > choose vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) > change to v5.5-v6 version > click on get a free trial. This time allows to register you and gives you the license key and download link.

In any case, I now have the license key thank you for your help!

  • Subscription to various machines licenses

I am considering the monthly subscription for LR and Psalm, but how does it work if I want to be able to use it on both my mac laptop and desktop windows.  And my son would be able to access on your computer mac laptop?

I guess also, that he can still be used if I don't have access to the internet (IE clouds) (other than if I had saved pictures exclusively on cloud, of course).

    Hi Steve,.

Same license can be activated on 2 machines.

Accoeding to http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php? It is not possible because you cannot manage the ESX 3.5 with vCenter 5.1 - I advise to use VMware Converter to V2V virtual machines to the new environment of 6.1.

  • Installation on 3 Machines licenses for 1 person

    Hello

I recently changed to include the Imac but also the PC and MacBook Pro, the latter being that I worked on my workstation.  The iMac is a new addition that some customers want PC imaging and others want a Mac, but I know that I can not use the product on more than 2 machines.  I don't want to pay double the rate per month to use Illustrator, Lightroom, and Photoshop, but unless there is another solution I will have no choice.

Can anyone offer advice?  I am the only person and not a team.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

PS: I got this posted under creative cloud but it seems to be spammed now.

If you want to use the three machines under the same single-user license you so make sure that you are only connected to two of them both...  He might have to become a habit for you to always sign out when you are finished using a machine so that you have the available additional sign.

  • Migrating to ESX ESXi machine

    Hello

New to ESX, I was handed a task and I hope you can help me with.

I was prompted to install a new server on a segment closed my business network. Asked me if the server can be virtual, as it is expected that the server should be migrated to the ESX infrastructure large company sometime next year.

The server is an older Dell PowerEdge R300, 2 * Xeon 3 GHz, 2 GB Ram, 160 GB. Should support ESXi.

My plan initial isto install ESXi on the server and install the single virtual server from W2K3 on the box. Then, next year, migrate this virtual W2K3 Server unique to my companys ESX 4.0 environment.

Unfortunantly, I'm not able to install directly on the ESX infrastructure of society, and the server must be installed with due next week.

Currently, the network closed, I'm to install the virtual server only consists of 2 clients and a server.

In your opinion, is it worth the time install ESXi on my Dell, with the sole purpose to be able to more easily migrate the unique virtual W2K3 for ESX Server later? Is it still possible? Or is that what I should just install the server with W2K3, forget to ESXi and want to migrate the server ESX using VCenter Converter?

    Any contribution is appreciated.

    Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the community

The server is an older Dell PowerEdge R300, 2 * Xeon 3 GHz, 2 GB Ram, 160 GB. Should support ESXi.

    check on the page HCL,
    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

2 GB of RAM is not RAM a lot, how much you want to assign to the VM?

My plan initial isto install ESXi on the server and install the single virtual server from W2K3 on the box. Then, next year, migrate this virtual W2K3 Server unique to my companys ESX 4.0 environment.

    good plan :-)

Yes, it is possible to spend your stand-alone host to your ESX VM infra.  First of all check if what will be installed on that VM is taken in charge on the virtual machine, not the vendor supports their applications on virtual machine

  • How to install ESXi machine datashare1 Linux?

How can I get the datashare1 ESXi 4.1 from a machine of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.2?

My goal is to automate the following:

    1. RHEL Jenkins/Hudson build computer creates a new ISO of the LiveCd.
    2. Build media machine and copy the ISO to datashare1.
    3. Start a VM the ISO ESXi running and run a test of smoke by program (what is possible by programming?).

ESXi is located at 10.0.0.120.  The vSphere client displays a location: ' / vmfs.volumes/4e144791-3...» ».  How can I determine the full path to climb?

    Thanks in advance,

You can also use the name of your store data instead of the number of UUIDS as in

  • CPU ESXi free license restrictions

    Hi guys,.

I need some advice to confirm what I intend to do what I'm not sure about this to 100%.

    Server's processors core 2 x 6, up to 12 cores in total.

I need to put in place 4 virtual machines with 3cpus each, that will be fine with my set up under the free license agreement? Maybe I'll go for 3 VMS with 4cpus each as well. Is this possible?

    Thank you!

Yes an unlimited number of virtual machines.

  • ESXi Machine Swap

    Hi guys,.

I have a server ESXi white box machine and the motherboard went to this topic. I got a new motherboard, now if I replace the motherboard, will be formatted all drives when I boot or all files will be intact as if they were before?

    Thank you

You may need to reconfigure your NETWORK card settings, but also a long time data warehouses to store all your VMDK are not affected, so you should be good to go. Make sure that the new mobo is aware in the HCL...

  • Can we change ESXi host license license free licensed?

We currently have two additional CPU of ESX license so that we can assign a new install ESXi host that is not connected to FC SAN.

However, we would like to know because of the need, can change us the license assigned to the ESXi host under a free license, so that we can use it on another ESX or ESXi host?

    Thank you

Yes, you can change any time, licenses you have is only the functionality.

If you run virtual Center and you have a rich license feature and decided to change for free, save a single license, you could end up losing the functionality and the ability to power on if some vm of the vcpu exceed your new license mode.

But tehcnically licenses you can change anytime, you could even remove a license and return to eval for 60 days.
