ESXi understanding builds

Hello

We went from ten nodes using the same ISO upgrade, 'len_sw_hyper_2068190_vmwaresx5_32 - 64.iso' Lenovo.

Five nodes have been upgraded by booting from the CD.

Five nodes have been upgraded using VMware Update Manager.

The updated nodes at level using the report - VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-2718055 CD

The updated nodes at level using VUM report VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-2456374

Research, we see that:

VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-2718055 has ESXi 5.5 Patch 5 *

VMware ESXi 5.5.0 build-2456374 has ESXi 5.5 Express Patch 6

Levels different patch whence and how standardize us these versions? Thank you.

I think in the express version of reference included AUVS.

Go ahead.

You can role back esxi

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1033604

I would advice that you currently use off-build package, you need to put it in the store of shared data, and run the command

put the host in maintenance,

software esxcli vib d install .

Thank you

Unfortunately, first version of ESXi 4 HP is no longer available (single ESXi 4 U1 now) and I do not have the copy I downloaded.

Does anyone still have this version (if you you got to the site of HP in July) and ready to share?

    Thank you

P.S. The version available on the VMware download site isn't the first version HP published on their Web site.

It seems that I have a. I also use old drives for testing.

  • Build clustered ESXi Version check

    Hi all

I wrote script below to get the Version single ESXi host build, but I don't get any output.

    $hvs = get-VMHost | Get-View

    $cv = get-Cluster | Get-View

    {foreach ($hv to $hvs)

    $hv |? {$_. Parent - game $cv. MoRef} | Select @{N = 'Node ESXi Version'; E={$_. Config.Product.FullName}} - single

    }

I miss something in this script, please suggest.

In this case, the variable $cv will be a table and $cv. MoRef do not exist.

Try like this, ESXi nodes will belong to a cluster.

    Get-Cluster | Get-VMHost |

    Select @{N = "Version ESXi node"; E={$_. ExtensionData.Config.Product.FullName}} - single

  • Adding a NIC to ESXi 4

    Hello

I'm experimenting with ESXi 4, and I just tried to add a network adapter to a host. It is a Netgear GA311 gigabit card that I just picked up at staples. Never checked the HCL list, but this is just a test on the old hardware, in any way, so I wasn't expecting everything to be completely perfect.

I checked a driver on http://downloads.VMware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4#drivers_tools and does not see my card. So, if my card is not a pilot, I'm out of luck? Is there a generic driver I can use. I am not concerned to obtain 100% of the performance of this card. In fact, I do not yet really on performance at this stage. I just want to see if I can assign an additional NIC to a VM on the host and let others related to the integrated card.

If there is any way I can set it up as a generic NIC, which would save the trouble to return it and get a card in the HCL.

    Thank you

    John

If the NETWORK adapter is not on the HCL, then chances are you either GROUND or have a LOT of hunting and fiddling in front of you. Even in this case, there is not that big a chance to get NETWORK card to work, all the... HCL tells you when the drivers for the NETWORK adapter are actually INCLUDED in the ESX/ESXi to build. That's what you REALLY want... While you can add material to an ESX/ESXi version/version that comes out after the build is released via the drivers available from the VMware site, there is really no "generic" drivers that work with ESX/ESXi. Put as simply as possible, ESX/ESXi is a term OS so drivers for Windows, or versions of Linux, do not work. ESX has a Console Service that is installed as part of the installation which is based on a distribution of Linux, but even this is severely modified...

You are the best solution would be to return this netgear card and pick up one that is on the HCL liberation of ESXi, you intend to use. I assure you that HCL has the NIC listed for more than just an ESXi 4, make sure that it is also the ESXi 4.1 list so that you are not looking to do it all over again when you go to 4.1...

The best maps, in my opinion, are those of Intel (and are on the HCL). Of course, you want to Go, and I would opt for a dual-port NETWORK adapter if it isn't a quad port.

Go ahead, watch the official HCL for the equipment before buy you them. If it is not listed, I wouldn't buy it... Chances are, places like staples will have points you can use. You'll end up their order online, or go to a shop that can special for you order material (if they don't already have server in stock class equipment)... Single NIC Gb should run you in the range $30 + with double NETWORK card port running up to $150... I know it may seem like a lot, but they rank real Server NIC, NOT just for any old office... Class/category server equipment is held to a MUCH higher level that you slap in your average office (or even a high quality desktop computer)... The next closest series would be class workstation (true) material. I am referring to those who are taking double, powered with four memory slots server class processor (usually 8 +).

BTW, a QUICK search in the section of VMware HCL IO devices using the version of ESX/ESXi 4.1, name of partner: Intel and Type: network, gave 85 hits... Some of those who are for 10 GB of NETWORK card, but there are a lot of 1 GB NIC that is completely compatible with ESX/ESXi 4.1 as well as the 4.0 versions (and many of them indicating compatibility with the old reelases). Begin to track down those listed on sites like newegg.com until you find one you like (number of prizes and the port)...

Personally, I use a double and a port quad Intel GB NIC (the two server level) inside my ESXi 4.1 home host... Yes, they were NOT cheap (~ $400 for the quad, $150 - $200 for the two), but stability and performance to make the expense worth it... Not to mention how long they are supposed to last, even during the long sessions of I/O high.

  • ISCSI SAN & ESXi

    Hello

We are currently researching the possibility of using ESXi to build about 15 physical servers on 3 or 4 HP bl460c blades. We are at the stage where we are trying to work on the costs and potential savings, and we need to know how much to budget for a SAN. We probably need 2-3 TB to fit all our data and us do not grow by that much each year (less than 100 GB). Far factor matters most in this process will be costly, so unfortunately a FC SAN is out of the question.

    The servers are:

    1 x Exchange 2003 (used by users of ~ 100)

    1 Server x Mimesweeper (antispam)

2 x CRM LOB systems (only one is used at a given time, the second is a spare)

    1 x file win2k3 Server

1 x Server SQL (used only for the low use of Sharepoint 2007 accounting software & Sage 200)

    1 x Sharepoint 2007 server

3-4 random 2 k 3, use of the very low disk servers

    3-4 2 k 8 Terminal servers

All Windows 2003 Terminal servers with the exception

I would rank all these while the use of low disk (although I don't know how to measure this, any suggestions?)

I want to know what products we should watch. This is a product that I've seen, but I don't know if the 2 x 1 Gbps is sufficient to use these virtual machines. Upper cost limit is probably £5 k (~ £3 k would be nice if possible!) and we would ideally have a better performance and an acceptable performance option

If it makes a difference, we probably look at the free version of ESX now and Dr., we have a 3rd party using the double take.

I have also heard people using NFS, would also be an acceptable solution for us?

    Thank you very much

any idea what could cause this problem? or how to fix it?

Important that I moved a Windows 2012 VM without ESXi server to the problem and messages LSI_SAS and disc problems began to appear

    Thanks a lot guys

    Hello

I do not understand the LSI SAS and mptscsi messages are coming inside the guests who are having a controller LSI. I agree to a point that the vmhba0 of LSI in the server maybe nothing to do with errors inside the guests because you do not have virtual machines in the local data store but CF.

So, let's take a look at the usual suspects:

    1. as Memmad has pointed out, in the vmkernel journal, we can see if the FC lun is seen no problem and is reported.

2 the ESX does very slowly during the execution of commands like esxcfg-scsidevs - m or esxcfg-rescan vmhbaX [X your CF Adapter]

3 - is the lun configured for multi path in the face of questions, CF once again, it can be newspapers vmkernel. ?

    4. I'm sure that the paging file will be generated when the FC lun, but they have a check if the last file to update the directory of the virtual machine swap at the present time. This is to eliminate any delay in the swap file in writing of the customer due to CF issues.

    5. There was questions previous similar to yours as VM lose pings, decline in performance, but they were in iscsi and 4.1 KB here

It seems that the guests are abandoned or their scsi reset commands that seems to be the issue here.

  • Customization of the comments for the virtual machines deployed from model has stopped working

    Hi all

(Environment: vCenter and ESXi 10 5.1 hosts running Build #3070626)

We have a model 2012R2 and a file specification of customization that allows us to deploy the VMs 2012R2 server. It worked well for a while. After the Christmas break, it seems more work correctly and we havn't knowingly changed anything to cause this. We have fixed our ESXi hosts Build #3070626 October 6, but have deployed VMs of model since, without problem.

We have all staged for the VM in advance (IE AD entry of objects and DNS). And then powered the deployed virtual computer, sysprep runs, but does not seem to apply settings in the customization file (IE rename the virtual computer, set the Admin password, join the domain etc.). If feed us the cycle of the VM, sysprep is running again, but even once, does nothing.

I have attached the contents of my file guestcust.log of a computer deployed virtual (see below), but I do not see the clues about the problem. I thought initially the error on the first line was important, until I've found it is also present on the virtual machines that have been successfully deployed from this template in the past, so it's maybe a Kipper.

Does anyone have advice for troubleshooting this?

    TIA

    Mark

  • iSCSI treatment new target LUN in the additional paths for target Lun

    Hello

I have a 5.5.0 ESXi host (build 1331820) I am trying place some new iSCSI LUNS to, but I have a problem with it that I am hoping someone can help me solve.

The back-end iSCSI server is running CentOS 6.5 with tgtd providing iSCSI targets.  There are four iSCSI targets in production, with another two created and used here.  When I re-scan the iSCSI environment after adding two new objectives, I see more than 4 disks in the Details pane of map iSCSI under Configuration-> storage adapters.

In addition, two of the LUNS stop working and inspection also shows that new iSCSI targets are seen as paths separate for the two broken LUNS.  It is:

    Existing LUNS:

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage0.jonheese.local:datastore0

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage1.jonheese.local:datastore1

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage2.jonheese.local:datastore2

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage3.jonheese.local:datastore3

    New LUN:

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage4.jonheese.local:datastore4

    IQN.2014 - 06.storage5.jonheese.local:datastore5

Of the "Managing paths" dialog for each found discs, I see that "datastore4" presents itself as an additional path to "datastore0" and "datastore5" presents itself as a path to "datastore1" - even if the target names are clearly different.

So can someone tell me why vSphere client iSCSI is the treatment target separate iSCSI LUNS as having multiple paths to the same target?  I compared the configuration of tgtd between the original LUN 4 and 2 new LUNS, and everything seems OK.  They are all attached to different backend disks (not that vSphere should know/care about this) and I wrote zeros to the new back-end disks LUNS to ensure that there is nothing odd about the disc, confusing the iSCSI client.

I can post some newspapers/config/information required.  Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Jon Heese

For anyone who is on this same situation, my supposition above proved to be correct.  But in addition to renumbering of the scsi_id each of the LUNS, I also had to renumber the field controller_tid to the controllers on the second node would be present with unique IDS.  Here is an example of the stanza of config I used for each LUN:

    # device LUN storage medium

    -storage/dev/drbd5 store

    # SCSI for storage LUN identifier

    scsi_id EIT 00050001

    # Identifier for the LUN controller SCSI

    controller_tid 5

    # iSCSI initiator IP address (ed) allowed to connect

    initiator-address 192.168.24.0/24

It is a problem of configuration of tgtd after all!  Thanks to all for the questions that led me to the right answer!

    Kind regards

  • !!!!! Drivers for Realtek RTL8111DL VIB and install it via Vcenter, not the cli in a server running ESxi5.5 production

    Hi guys,.

someone can it provide and show me how to add it to a production of ESxi5.5 Server? I Don t want to customize and ISO and starting from scratch.

Like many I search I found *. Files VIB and going the Ko, a peek at how to install it via vcenter appears:

    ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Existing ESXi installation using VMware Update Manager

You can install the drivers async on an existing Update Manager VMware ESXi host. For more information, see using vSphere ESXi Image Builder CLI Guide of installation and Installation of vSphere.

Note: Async drivers are developed by third-party providers and are subject to VMware certification. Third-party suppliers provide suggestions/recommendations for updating their drivers/firmware for specific versions of ESX/ESXi. As a result, VMware does not include these async drivers automatically in the Update Manager.

    To install the async drivers:

    1. Extract the contents of the zip driver async file.
    2. Identify the offline-bundle.zip file (s).
    3. Vcenter Server, go to the home page > Update Manager.
    4. Click the Repository of Patch .
    5. Click the link to the Import of patches at the top right of the screen.
    6. Click Finish. The async driver is added to the repository of the patch.
    7. Create a base Extension Host and sanitize the ESXi host. For more information, see the Guide of Directors of Update Manager.
    8. Restart the ESXi host once the restore is complete.

    *******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

What is the ZIP file of the async driver?  I only found a *. VIB

What is the offline-bundle.zip file (s).?

in point 3, I opened my HOUSE Vcenter and I Don t see UPDATE MANAGER, see pictureCapture.JPG

So, I'm lost... again ... Could someone provice drivers for a REALTEK RTL811DL and show me how to install it easily in a production server. ?

    Have you installed the plugin?

As I said, the VUM consists of two parts: the server and the client plugin.

You install the server from the installation media and the vSphere Client plugin itself.

I found a post detailed with screenshots for you: vSphere Update Manager (VUM) (part 2) - Installation
