ESXi with Buffalo Terastation as an NFS server - can't read data - still unsolved

Hello

I ve connected correctly my ESXi 4 server via NFS with a Buffalo Terastation XL. I can see storage information and I can write data to this topic, BUT: I can´t read the data!

All orders, like create VM, copy/move files and create folders work propoerly I can see the files on the NAS via ftp with no problems.

But via VSphere I can't access/read data.

Does anyone have an idea what I m doing wrong?

Thank you

Dirk

Unfortunately pressed 'useful' by accident, but the problem remains.

HO w you're reading data?

Buffalo boxes are very slow, so no wait for great performance.

Yes, no extra accommodation payment is required. After editing your site and savings, click download file to the host of VTT... The info should auto fill with the same information that you used to download the site the first time. You can choose to download only files "changed" or "all files". Click OK and the old files will be overwritten.

  • Cannot backup VMs to the NFS server

    Hi all

really stuck GhettoVCB script configuration to back up virtual machines...

I only have a single physical hard drive "datastore1" on my 6.0 ESXi host. I also have NFS server:

    /NFS

    IP address: 192.168.3.200

First of all, I did a little test: I added this NFS server (file system is ext4) as a new 'teststorage' using vSphere Client storage. When I type in console

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/somefolder

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/teststorage/newfolder

    everyghing is ok. Also:

    # esxcli storage nfs add h 192.168.3.200 v s/nfs/backup - backup

    # mkdir/vmfs/volumes/backup/tesfolder

Well obviously, everything works. I so disassembled vSphere Client NFS.

Next step, I tried to configure the script:

    VM_BACKUP_VOLUME = / vmfs/volumes/datastore1/autobackup

    DISK_BACKUP_FORMAT = thin

    VM_BACKUP_ROTATION_COUNT = 1

    Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The solution was simple: my notebook + in Windows curled some symbols 'hidden' at the end of the first line, before that I sent this file via WinSCP.

    1. use only vi on your ESXi because different EOL codes (CR + LF/LF). Also don't let useful space and the end of the lines.

2 set the async on your NFS server instead of synchronization that increases the speed of copy.

    3. place your script of ghettoVCB on your data store. For example: / vmfs/volumes/datastore1

    Hope this helps others.

  • Problem connecting to the Buffalo TeraStation with Windows 7 Pro

Our network has a server running Win2K AD files.  We have added a Buffalo TeraStation TS - X 2. BTA/R5 for more than a year to complete our storage.  Since that time, we had computers, Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Pro, and trendy Home and works very well with the Buffalo TeraStation.  Recently, we have replaced Windows 2000-based computers with Windows 7 Pro computers.  Everything works fine - except that they do not connect to the TeraStation.  I can ping the TeraStation.  I can see the TeraStation.  But when I click on the TeraStation to access folders and files, I get an error as follows: "the folder. \\TS-XLFAA is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The user name is not found. "All the other workstations access the TeraStation very well, because they always have.  I can't find a solution to this problem.  I tried setting the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel' value to 1 and changed "network security: LAN Manager authentication level" to"send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". as suggested by others, but it didn't work.  Any ideas?  I have several Windows 7 Pro computers that cannot access the TeraStation storage.  Help!  Thank you...

Browsing through the posts, I found something that worked.  It was suggested to disable the use of IPv6 in network properties and use the ip address of the NAS instead of the server name.  I opened windows Explorer and typed in the address like this: \\192.168.1.11\ and the server was available immediately... Thanks CODY!

  • NFS server as a quest on ESXi Server

    Hi all

I would like to ask your advice on the subject. I am looking for a

solution to configure NFS shared storage for 3 ESXi servers. I currently have

    have MD3000i, 3 x DELL 2950, and 2 x DELL 2850.

    My original idea

was to use 2 x 2850 DELL servers like NFS servers for ESXi on DELL servers

2950 servers. NFS server cards LUN on the MD3000i iSCSI and

then sharing of data via NFS. But maybe I could jump DELL 2850 s at all?

    What

If I configure the NFS servers as quests on each server ESXi, use ESXi

    Software

initiator iSCSI and NFS servers (or software use raw devices card

inside of the NFS server - in my case it's CentOS). After these steps, it

    Will be

no different to have a server stand-alone NFS (configuration).

Each DELL 2950 has two cards on boar and I intend to install one or two

    dual plus

    ports NICs to increase bandwidth.

ESXi server will be NFS datastore to map NFS server under

the same server ESXi and this data store will be used to store all the others

    Virtual machines.

I intend to have no more than 8 total VMs on each server ESXi.

In the event of server failure, I can temporary remap an iSCSI LUN

other NFS server (running on another server ESXi). Data on LUNS

    should be in place it.

This could be done? I know technically it's possible, but it'll work in production?

    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I was very happy with Openfiler running on the 2850 s.  It might be worth checking out.

    Good luck!

  • Service NFS server running on an ESXi host.

I was able to set up successfully with "Services for Unix" NFS server on my Windows 2003 server.  I would now be able to set up an NFS server and NFS client on a pair of ESXi servers. This would allow me to copy the guests of virtual computer through the ESXi host servers using NFS mount points.

    Engineer accommodation

    ModusLink Open Channel Solutions, Inc.

Short answer is that you can give to this.  ESXi doesn't have access to the console, without access to the consoles, that can't do.  Even with Console cannot yet be done, ESX is bare bones but single server, not Linux.

You don't want to use your ESX Server as a device.  It's a bad habit to enter.  ESX is a VM host, simply.  Not a general-purpose, file sharing / FTP / sharing NFS GNU / Linux.

If you think NFS, set up a Linux VM on this host, and use it.

  • Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management

Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management?
I wonder for a future issue, a scenario where a system administrator must build a Win2008 + DC on local storage, server
then, once the physical box is integrated into the class network, the physical box is connected to the classified SAN storage.
Is it possible to hot - migrate the server Win2008 + CC local storage to SAN storage at this time, with only the
free version of VMWare ESXi 5.1.0?

Welcome to the community - I guess that you are looking to do this, while the virtual machine is currently running - this is not possible without a management server, also called vCenetr, but all is not lost because you would be able spend the VM local storage to the San with the VM posered using the client storage management features

  • ESXi 4.1 as an NFS server?

I have several virtual machines on SATA storage space on my server ESXi 4.1.  I would like to support these until my NFS server.  What is the best way to do it?

Ideally, I would like to start NFS services on the hypervisor, ESXi 4.1, so I can run cron on the NFS server tasks (client in this case or ) and copy virtual machines.

    Is this possible?

Yes, I know I can install virtual machines directly on the NFS storage and run them from there, but I want the box of VMware to run independent of the NFS server and rely on it for backups.

Otherwise, can run tasks scheduled on the ESXi 4.1 hypervisor to copy on the NFS server?

    Thank you.

You can add an NFS share in a data store. Use the configuration tab / storage to add the share. You can use http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760 to clone your virtual machine to the NFS data store. It is possible to add the process clone ghettoVCB as a cron job of many references in the DOC.

  • For NFS Server backup path

I'm trying to backup on a NFS server using the script ghettoVCB.sh, but am not sure what I need to put the path.   Here is the snippet of script:

    1. directory that all VM backups should go (for example/vmfs/volumes/SAN_LUN1/mybackupdir)

    VM_BACKUP_VOLUME=/vmfs/volumes/dlgCore-NFS-bigboi.VM-backups/WILLIAM_BACKUPS

NFS "ubuntu" server is 192.168.1.200 with a share called / files.

On the ESXi 4.0 Server, the default data store points to the local disk.  Using vSphere client, I created a second named Ubuntu by NFS data store and robbed on the server (192.168.1.200:/files) successfully.

What am I supposed to use the path VM_BACKUP_VOLUME?

    VM_BACKUP_VOLUME = / vmfs/volumes/Ubuntu /...

  • ESXi connection to the Windows SFU NFS data store

We plan to install 3 servers ESXi with virtual machines hosted on local.  A backup script align the images and move the *.vmx and *.vmdk to a NFS data store located in separate facilities which are connected via fiber.  All connections are links of 1 G.  The NFS data store will be hosted on w2k3 with SFU (Microsoft Services for Unix).

The NFS data store will be a target for cloning and will be located in a building separated for "geographical separation."  I tested with Veema FastSCP (the public beta)... it's ok (30Mbytes/sec).  I assume that the clone process will take about 5 hours - but we can tolerate the performance hit after opening hours.

Question:  Is there a "traps" to know by linking each ESXi server in the same directory NFS exported using SFU?  Perhaps more to the point... no problem with ESXi and Windows SFU?

Before anyone asks... we do this on a 'super-thin budget' (that is to say... $ 0) using existing hardware, otherwise I would have ESX Enterprise and SAN storage!

Some discussions to look at on the performance.

  • Permissions to connect to esxi with perl sdk

I tried the user scripts perl for surveillance. I have 1 Server ESXi 5.1 I can connect to directly and the script has no problem connecting.

I have another 3 esxi servers which are connected to a server for vsphere.

On the same server, I can connect directly to the server esxi with vsphere client no problem.

On the vsphere server, I can only connect to the server for vsphere, I can't connect directly to the esxi hosts. (http, https, ssh, etc...)

I think it's the issue that I have with the sdk for perl. I have a SSO connection that I can user to connect to the server for vsphere, but these permissions will not get access to the esxi host.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you

I'm really not sure about the writing of scripts and other things, but if you need to create local users in ESXi host, you must connect to the host directly and then go to the tab of local users and groups and create users.

  • Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

We have a request from MS Failover Cluster configuration on Windows 2008 R2 2 guests with a storage shared for a web application. However, there is no VMFS storage of data or the ability of the CF to presending RDM. So, I created the disks shared on a NFS datastore using option "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service" and have added the cluster disk and tested successful failover.

But the MS cluster validation control cancelled storage and I want to know if that configuration is not taken because of supported.

    A notice would be useful.

We are also working on setting up a cluster of ESXi for iSCSI storage, which can be leveraed for this purpose.

    Shyam-

    Its not supported.

4.1, your only options supported are:

    • CF storage with pRDMs
    • iSCSI storage with initiators guest.
  • Introduction of ESXi with DR in mind

I'm a bit new to vmware and had a question about the feasibility of a possible configuration.

Currently, I'll buy a new server to host the free version of ESXi.  It's for a small office of 3 performance isn't a problem.  I have 3 virtual machines on the server a server Rd, files and applications.  I want to do is install esxi on a USB key connected to this server.  Get a NAS with Raid 10 and have all the vm 3 located on the nas.  If the primary server goes down, I would move the usb drive to a free desktop computer that has access to the NAS and use it as a temporary solution until the server can be fixed.  I don't know if this is possible because the machines will not be the same (a xeon 2.4, Office doubled heart Pentium 4 Server).  Can you get it someone please let me know if this is taken in charge and if not how reliable a cheap solution that would give me redundancy.  I agree with getting hard disks and a raid for server controller, but failure, I would like to have a reliable process that is easy to set up the backup (office).  In addition, data are saved by a continuous backup solution, I fear that this return to the VM until the material on the server stops working.

Thank you in advance for your help!

If you are running the free version, you will not open a case of support in your main condition must therefore a stable solution (which, in my view, it does not contain an old desktop pc).

Take two servers (a new, old as the backup, both on HCL) connect to your NAS and you will have no problem to start your virtual machines from both hosts. Of course you can on this VM Handbook if a server goes down, if don't use does not a version that provides the feature HA.

    Kind regards
