  @LukeJS host on a Ubuntu (Linux) from the file name won't get the .ini extension and will be simply called the config and will be parked at/etc/vmware /.  So with the machine virtual shutdown is not suspended and VMware Player closed then a Terminal used the following command.

• VMware Tools missing in the Installation of VMware Player 7

  Hi all

  If I try to install/upgrade to update VMware Tools after the Installation of VMware Player 7 no ISO will be connected to the virtual machine.

  I checked the directory of Installation of VMware Player for the ISOs of the tools but no ISOs are there.

  Can you help me out of this Situation or is it a missing element in the installer?

  I just downloaded VMware-player - 7.0.0 - 2305329.exe and installed under Windows 7 x 64 and had no problems with it automatically detect installed VMware Tools to the guest operating system to be downloaded and successfully downloaded.  Having said that, have you tried? : Player > file > Preferences... > download now all components

  Maybe something is blocking you to download the VMware tools.

  You could also do it manually by using the following tools from VMware for VMware Player 7.0.0.

  • Tools-freebsd - 9.9.0.exe.tar
  • Tools-linux - 9.9.0.exe.tar
  • Tools-netware - 9.9.0.exe.tar
  • Tools-solaris - 9.9.0.exe.tar
  • Tools-winPre2k - 9.9.0.exe.tar
  • tools-windows - 9.9.0.exe.tar

  I have a solution!

  I deleted all the files associated with VMware Player. In my user files and all (Public) users. Then I deleted all the temporary files used by vmware player.

  I ran the installer for vmware player 3.14 (the original installation) and chose 'uninstall '. He crossed uninstall it without any problem or error. After that, he asked to restart the computer I did.

  Then I ran the installer for the 5.02 and installed without problem or error. He never asked to restart the computer.

  The only thing I noticed was that when I ran VMware Player it took a long time to start (maybe 2-3 minutes). So, I did a reboot and then it was all right, to leave quickly and loading of a virtual machine as fast as before.

• VMware player + modem

  Well, I have google assign to this topic and I have the knowledge now that modems on board are tough for VMware player. But I would still ask because maybe there's a solution.

  I had a built-in modem (Agere Systems HDA modem), which is installed on my win machine propperly 7. I installed VMware player with an XP operating system. but no modem found. This is a classic problem and if I didn't know better I'd give cause all the answers I've found where disappointing.

  Now, when I check the Device Manager and click on the modem I see that he uses "COM5" so it gave me a spark of hope. I added this com port for the virtual machine settings, but I still don't know what to do the next cause I can't install the drivers.

  Any input would be more than welcome.

  Installation of the drivers is perhaps not necessary and he probably does not work to install the drivers from the virtual machine anyway.  The modem is not presented to the virtual machine, only one COM port.  I hope that you are using an application of the virtual machine that can talk to the serial port and requires no specific functions of the driver.

  If the host uses the modem on Com5 and virtual machine probably uses Com1 as there is only a single device set installed, at least that's my guess.

Since I need two softwares of different recording/Dictation on my workstation and I could only one of them simultaneously open (which is very uncomfortable, when you need to change frequently), because those two were always challenging who got to use the microphone, I installed a second microphone (that only the application for the two contest) and then created a virtual machine to run the software second with one of the two microphones connected only to the prompt. (Directly/comfortably) to start the second software I created a. LNK shortcut file (and attached to the startmenu) who run the command

  In the Player 3.0 there is an option in the file menu "Import Windows XP Mode virtual machine".  This is displayed if the Mode XP .vhd file has been downloaded and installed on your system.

  You must use this method to run the .vhd file.   It will automatically install the .vmx with the correct settings file and create a clone that is linked to the original to run file from.
