Exadata Smart Scan

Hello

Can someone explain to me what Exadata Smart Scan?

How can I see if it is enabled or disabled?

How can I enable or disable it?

When to use and when not to use it.

Kind regards

Laurent Baylac

Hello

It's all in the statistical system.

"physical bytes IO cell eligible for predicate unload ' is part 'physical play total of bytes' where SmartScan can be used.

'saved bytes of physical i/o cell by index of storage', where no e/s were required through indexes for storage

Physical IO cell in interconnect bytes returned by smart scan

'cell IO uncompressed bytes' is that which happens as input for the unloading of predicate/projection and "cell e/s physical interconnection bytes returned by smart scan" is the result where the lines and columns were dropped.

Kind regards

Franck.

    Hello

Diluvium readings are eligible for SmartScan only if it is made in direct-path. You don't need to change the DOP, since she can use the direct path read series (according to the size of the segment, how many blocks is in the cache, and how many of them is dirty - see https://fritshoogland.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/direct-path-read-and-fast-full-index-scans/). Even with higer DOP, parallel query may choose to use the cache buffers - so not SmartScan.

Hello, I recently dropped my laptop (on a small height) and he stopped truning on. I have and run the hard drive test instead it gives the message smart hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. to ensure no data loss Please save the content immediately and run the system diagnostics hard drive test.

I did this and got the id 9amas1-7bd81r-mfpv6k - 60 c 803 failure.  Any ideas what this means or suggestions for my next move. Im guessing Im going to have to buy a new hard drive, but is anyway to get my data off the old 1 before I lose it?

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for the failure of the Smart is no indication that the hard drive is failing and must be replaced.  It is also compatible with the laptop after falling.

To recover your data would be to remove the HARD disk, place it in an external enclosure - is an example of the link below - connect to another PC and see if you can access your files.

  • Exadata performance

In our results of exachk, there is an article for shared_server.

    our current production environment has shared_server set to 1. SHARED_SERVER = 1.

    Now, I got those exachk:

    Benefit / Impact:

As a decision of the Oracle kernel design, shared servers are designed to make fast transactions and therefore do not direct readings of series (not PQ) issue. Therefore, the shared servers do not series (not PQ) Exadata smart scans.

The impact of verify that shared servers are not full table scan series is minimal. Changing the shared server environment to avoid full table scans shared server set varies according to the behavior of configuration and application, so the impact can be estimated here.

    Risk:

Shared servers making scans of complete set of the table in an environment Exadata lead to an impact on performance due to the loss of the Exadata smart analytics.

    Action / repair:

To check the shared servers are not running, run the following SQL query under the user name "oracle":

    SQL > select NAME, value of the parameter $ v whose name = "shared_servers;

    The expected output is:

    VALUE NAME

    --------------- ------------------------------

    SHARED_SERVERS 0

If the output is not '0', use the following command under the user name "oracle" with correctly set environment variables and check the flow rate for the 'SHARED ': configurations

    Service of $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl

If shared server are confirmed to be present, check for the scans of the complete series of the table they commit. If the shared servers, perform scans of the complete series of the table are found, the behavior of the environment and application of shared server should be changed as to encourage normal Oracle foreground processes so that the direct reading sequential and Exadata smart analytics can be used.

Oracle lsnrctl service on production environments present shows all the "Local Server".

    What should I do here?

    Thanks again in advance.

XMLDB is a component that is optional on Oracle 11 g 2, but included in the default install Exadata.  But anyway, keep as-is system avoids any risk of impact XMLDB.

  • major differences of exadata database, listener, process than the normal RAC environment?

I would ask for any input about the major differences of exadata database, listener, process than the normal RAC environment.

I know now the exadata have not only SCAN listeners, but many other listeners. expert here can provide clarification?

    Thank you

All the right questions... Welcome to the world of Exadata.

These are questions that could get into a lot more detail and discussion than a forum post. At a high level, you certainly don't want delete all indexes on Exadata. However, you need to index and an indexing strategy will change on Exadata. After you move a database from one not Exadata Exadata environment you are probably more indexed. Indexes used for OLTP transactions real - looking one or a few lines among others will usually quickly with an index. The index used to avoid a percentage of records but always returning number of records can often be moved. On the index depends on the nature of the workload and your application. If you have a control on the index, then test your queries and DML with the index (s) invisible. Check your implementation plan, the columns io_cell_offload in v$ sql, smart scan wait events to ensure you get intelligent analysis... and see if the smart scan is faster than using the index (s). The real-time SQL Monitor is an excellent tool to help with this - use dbms_sqltune or grid/cloud control.

Parallelism is a great tool to help still speed up queries and direct path loading operations and can help prompt smart scans... but use of parallelism really depends on your workload and must be controlled using DBRM and the parallel init parms, possibly using same parallel declaration put on hold, so it is not overwhelm your system and cause concurrency problems.

If you have a mixed environment of workload or consolidates databases on Exadata so my opinion is IORM plans should certainly be implemented.

  • Exadata characteristic and execution of study plan

    Hi all

I have questions about Exadata functionality.
We have meet a performance problem in the current system and to improve the system. We are studying how much benefits that Exadata can give.
After reviewing the daily execution of the SQL statement, we find that there is certain amount of "index range scan", operation "index full scan" (from execution plan). Exadata helps these operation (e.g. smart scan)? On the other hand, it is that all execute SQL (for example the full table scan) can be advantage in using Exadata?

    Thank you and best regards,
    M.T.

Yes, you can have simulation setting CELL_OFFLOAD_PLAN_DISPLAY to always. With this setting at the level of the session we could see change explain the plan, such as optimizer would think exadata is available.

Please note that oracle would not recommend to use/infact analyzes all your indexes in Exadata, because by FTS is much more effective in Exadata. Once you have moved your application to Exadata, you apply main index in INVISIBLE mode and the benefits you get (there would be huge :)).

  • SQL Tuning for Exadata

    Hello

I would like to know specific to Oracle exadata SQL Tuning methods so that they could improve the performance of the database?
I am aware that oracle exadata works with Oracle 11 g, but I would like to know weather there any s w.r.t. to SQL tuning on exadata?

    concerning
    Sunil

Well, there are some things that are very different on Exadata. Remember all the standard Oracle SQL tuning you have already learned as Exadata runs the code of database 11g standard, but there are many optimizations that were added that you should be aware of. At a high level, if you make the OLTP type work you should try to make sure you enjoy Exadata Smart Flash Cache that will greatly accelerate your small I / O of the but long-running queries are where appear the great benefits. The high level tuning approach for them is the following:

    1. check if you have found smart Scans.
    2. If you are not, difficulty that never prevents them being used.

We have been involved in somewhere between 25-30 DB now machinery facilities and in many cases, a little bit of effort changes performance considerably. If you get only 2 to 3 X improvement on your previous platform on these long term requests you get probably not all the benefits of the Exadata optimizations. So the first step is to learn how to determine if you've found the smart analysis or not, and what parts of the statement. Wait events, session statistics, V$ SQL, SQL monitoring are viable tools that can show you this information.

  • Queries in Exadata

    Hello

I have filtered some queries that take longer to exadata database Oracle 11 g traditional.
What could be the possible errors that occurred in SQL as well as the prospects for the databases?

Are the SQL consists largely of Inner joins.

    Concerning
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,

Just a few comments for you. Join as on a simple that uses a hash between two full table scans, Exadata join should be much faster than a non-Exadata platform. But, to use a Smart Scan. This means he has to do a reading of the direct path. Since it is a serial execution plan, the arrays must be big enough to get the direct path series read mechanism of kick. There is still not enough information to determine if this is the case, but my first guess would be that Smart Scans are not past due to the size of the table. You can try the parallelization of the declaration with a low degree (example 2), but you need some basics about whether what you are having the desired result - i.e. causing Smart scan to occur.

I'll suggest a few things you should probably inquire about.

    1. learn to use dbms_xplan.display_cursor - very useful for reviewing the plans of actual cursors (not the same that explain the plan that does not resemble real plans of the slider)
    2. learn about Kevin Closson, Tanel Poder and many other blogs (including me) on how Smart Scans works and what are the requirements
    3. you can consider getting a copy of the Exadata of Rick Greenwald book or one that Tanel, Kevin, Randy Johnson and I have worked (there is an available alpha version which can be downloaded at Apress.com). The printed version will be about a month. It covers the optimizations provided by smart scan, but more importantly, a lot of techniques to determine whether are the shot or not.
    4. learn the dbms_sqltune.report_sql_monitor. It is an extremely useful tool to see what is happening with long running queries. Greg Rahn has written a bit about it on his blog and I made a post on its use with Exadata on mine.

    Hello @mickyar,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you are having problems when you try to scan from your computer Windows 7 to your HP Photosmart 6520 e-all-in-one printer. I would like to help you today with this problem of scan. Now, because you are able to scan to portable, we know him problem that you are experiencing are not caused by the printer or the connection. Rather, there may be some kind of driver or software conflict occurring on your Windows 7 computer that is the origin of your scans to fail.

To begin troubleshooting can I please have you click here to download HP Print and scan of the doctor tool. Once you select the link, only the installer so that the tool will start automatically. If you have the ability to run please click Run. Depending on your internet browser, you can only have the option to backup. If you save just click Save. Once the download is complete, please select the download package and click on Run to launch the tool. Please cross the HP printing and analysis tool of the doctor to "thedifficulty of analysis." If connection, software or driver conflicts turns out that the HP print and scan of the doctor tool will attempt to resolve these conflicts for you. Once the tool has completed please test scan again to see if the problem is resolved. If you see errors in the analysis of the doctor tool please take note of them that I will need to know exactly what is happening.

Please reply to this message with the result of the execution of the HP print and the tool of analysis of the doctor. I look forward to hear from you!

  • B109 scan full page

B109 all-in-one - I just want you scan a document, a page, a form that I filled out and signed and dated, and I need to send a scan of this page. But your "smart" scanning software keeps cutting out the page outside the borders of the shape, so lose the signature. On several occasions. And that is when he is not divided in 3 separate jpg form. I guess that's "help" find me three separate images on the scanner glass, but it is not, is a single * beep * page of the form filled in.

I can't find any "solution Center" option to turn off this shit analysis and treatment. I just want you scan a whole A4 page. How can I disable the shit and get a simple function to scan A4?

    Hello

What is the size of the document? It is bigger than the surface of glass? Analyze menu, you should be able to select the entire glass area and it will scan the entire page IF the page is smaller than the surface of glass.

    Kind regards.

  • All dynamic views for (Exadata) Flash using the Cache?

    All,

Although it is one of the main points of sale of Exadata (especially of the X 3 from), I am struggling to find much information about our use of the Exadata Smart FlashCache (I'm under RDBMS 11.2.0.2 BP7 on a quarter V2-rack).

I can check the FlashCache usage by checking if the object has been "pinned" to the FlashCache via DBA_SEGMENTS and I use FlashCache can check by querying a gv$ sysstat (and even v$ mystat), but are there other views that I could use? It seems a little strange for Oracle is not to enlighten the DBA on their use of this feature...

  • Need help with performance & setting in an environment of memory data storage/warehousing

    Dear all,

    Nice day.

We had successfully migrated from a 4 node rack Exadata V2 to a quarter of 2 node rack X 4 - 2 Exadata. However, we are facing some problems with performance for a few charges while others were indeed marked a good improvement.

    1. the total memory on the BONE is 250 GB for each node (two of compute nodes for a quarter of rack).

    2. you would be grateful if someone could help me with the best equation to calculate the SGA and PGA (as well as in the distribution of the shared_pool, large_pool etc.) or automatic memory management is recommended?

    3. we run the exachk report which proposes to set up huge pages.

    4. when we tried to increase the SGA to more than 30 GB system does not do. We set however of the PGA to 85 GB.

    5. in addition, we noted that some of the queries with joins and indexes take more time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Vikram.

    Hi Vikram,

There is no formula on SGA and PGA, but best practices for environments OLTP is amounting to give memory (which can be up to 80% of total RAM of the server) you can do 80% gas and 20% of the PGA. Envs Data Warehouse, values are like PGA SGA and 40% to 60%, or it may be up to 50% - 50%. In addition, some disencourage docs you keep the auto memory when management database you use a big SGA (> 10).

You use a CCR environment, you need to configure huge Pages. And if the systems are not allowing you to increase the memory, just take a glance on the semaphore settings, probably, they establish lower values. And for the poor performance queries, we need to explain the structure of the table plans, and you also analyserions if smart scan is the game.

    Kind regards.
