• Excel spreadsheet Voodoo

  Hi all

  For a job/hrs. paid should I fill out my information in an excel spreadsheet.

  As soon as I get a number of hours worked in say D2 a triangle of red error appears where there is a formula that is not happy.

  The error says "Argument 1 of the TOUR expects a number, but the cell contains a date." Even if the cell in question has requested an hour in 15:00 format I entered. ???

  The second thing is that the spreadsheet I use was sent to me by a PC person who says I use an older version of the form and that is the problem. However, I use the updated version, she sends me every time, by clicking on it with the mail to open in number. For some reason, either at the end or mine numbers back to the original version of the document when you open or save after I have sent him filled form. Or some other Voodoo that happens.

  Excel and numbers to deal with date and time values differently. Each method has its own advantages.  The differences may be causing your problem.

  If you work frequently with users of Excel, you can consider using Excel for Mac.  Although numbers can import/export from/to Excel it is not designed to be an Excel "clone".

  Meanwhile, according to the formula that gives your problem and maybe there is a quick fix that works in your case.

• Could new macbook 12 2015 heavy performance excels on bootcamp?

  Currently I use MBPr 13 and it works very well in microsoft office via bootcamp. However, I'm interesting on the new macbook 2015 since it is more portable and my lifestyle is just using MBPr for youtubing, facebooking and working on spreadsheets via bootcamp programs.

  My concern is if new macbook 2015 could launch heavy spreadsheets for example Excel, powerpoint via bootcamp smoothly. This is because the specification of the new macbook is much lower than MBPr 13.

  I migrated to an i5 to a 12 MB m7 13MBPr, and to be honest, the two laptops 'feel' at the same speed.  (Besides, my i7 11MBA at home also "feels" substantially the same.)  The graphics accelerated on the 13MBPr were a little faster, but seemed very similar to the processor and storage.  My 2015 MBPr received a core 3596 geekbench, the m7 12 MB Gets a 2947 and my 11MBA becomes 3182, as they're all pretty close.

• CSV file will not work in Excel after update of the Sierra

  Excel is not able to properly open CSV files more. I have two MacMinis to work with the same version of Excel/Office, but one with macOS Sierra displays all the data in the first column.

  Must be a problem that macOS as Sierra mess up to the deliminter. Very annoying.

  Barebones Textwrangler can force CSVs to use a standard delimiter that Office can understand.  Try to open your CSV with that and save it as MS-DOS text file.

• The Drop Down Menu number of Excel spreadsheets?

  Trying to open an Excel file created by my boss in number. There a few in drop-down menus, (pictured below) and they will not display correctly. Many prefer using numbers than Excel, anyone know of any tricks to make this menu drop-down appear in numbers as in Excel?

  In Excel, you can automatically fill a drop-down list with values within a specific range of cells through 'Data Validation '.

  Numbers have no drop-down menu, but it doesn't have a Menu called data format.  It is easy to populate a drop-down list with values manually; Select the cells that contain different values which you want to make a choice and format on the Shortcut Menu. The result will be something very similar to your screenshot.

  But in doing so fully automatic as in Excel is not currently possible in number.

  Numbers provides an attractive work environment, but if you frequently need to exchange documents with your boss and your boss uses Excel, then better use Excel.

• Ahhh need help with numbers - too use to Excel!

  I am very new to numbers. I have a spreadsheet and a column, I have the following:-

  AB071602 then below I have AB071604 and so on - I have to do is to change the 07 to the 08 and 16 and 17 on each cell, more than 200. I know there is a way to do this with a formula in excel, but I'm not sure about numbers? I don't want to sit and manually change each cell.

  I also have all these numbers in another column and have a .jpeg at the end of each of them, once again, I'm sure there must be a formula to add it automatically.

  Assuming you have something like this:

  

  You can create the file name replacing "0817" "0716" and adding ".jpg" at the end.

  the id of the original photo is in column A and the name of the update file is in column B (in this example.

  B2 = SUBSTITUTE (A2, "0716", "0817") & ".jpg".

  It is a shortcut to select cell B2 and type (or copy and paste it here) the formula:

  = SUBSTITUTE(A2, "0716", "0817") & ".jpg".

  to fill down, select cell B2, copy

  Select the cells B2 at the end of column B (or), and then paste

• Excel "Delete content" is also the removal of formulas

  I've duplicated a worksheet and you want to delete the content but not the formulas. I know going in Edition > erase > content is supposed to erase the data, but leaves intact forms; However, it is clearing my formulas as well. Any ideas, what could go wrong and how to fix it? : S

  Clear content has always cleared all the "content", including the formulas in Excel.

  Therefore, select only the cells that have data (not formulas) and then clear the contents in these specific cells or columns instead.

  In Excel, I make heavy use of the dollar sign so that when I copy a cell content of this cell will not change.

  Example (in Excel)

  $A2

  When they are copied will retain the 'A' part, but the number will change

  reference a specific cell and will always reference this cell when copied and pasted anywhere.

  How to do the same thing in the Pages?

  I just found how.  Double-click the cell, and then select the small triangle to the right of the cell reference. A drop down menu will appear with the options to maintain a line or static column.  (See the illustration)

  

• My excel is blacked out and cannot be used or removed

  The Excel application has a black icon as if it is updated.

  However, it it has been a few days, the speed of the WiFi is very good, so I don't think that's the problem.

  I can't open or delete it.

  Try this:

  I guess that you do not have a computer.

  Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to the computer.

  Click on applications and scroll down to Excel.app.

  Click on delete > > apply > > Sync.

  The Excel.app disappears from the iPhone.

  Back to iTunes on the computer and try to install again.

  Click on install > > apply > > Sync.

  The screenshot is an example.

  

• Excel Password change spontaneously

  I just found out the password on a 2008 Excel spreadsheet I created became corrupted/changed somehow. Fortunately, I have the spreadsheet available in Time Machine a few days ago and there can open without a problem by using the original password. However, when I try to restore a from there on my iMac or simply copy it to a new file, it is not open in its new destination and gives me the same password error message.

  I'm completely stunned. Has anyone who encountered this and is there a solution?

  Here is some info about the import process.

It is a zip code and the name of the city that I want to be able to sort the whole by address list.

  I guess that you export your Excel file to a comma separated file.
  Try to include the column names until the last necessary one, in the same order and spelled as an address book.
  When you export mark the part you want to use column incl. names
  Open your .csv in a texteditor, y at - it no additional space, strange letters, commas, etc.

  The best way to get all the names is to export an address book to a csv file

• I can't open attachments generated in Excel or Word. Get an error there is not enough memory or disk space.

  MIcrosoft Excel cannot open or save documents more because there is not enough memory or disk space.
  To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
  To free disk space, delete files that you no longer have need of the disc you save to.

  I have 4.75 TB of disk space available. I tried to close open programs and I can't always open attachments.

  I did a search on google and found some info that seems to suggest that it is a question of MS Excel /Word.
