• Research in migration Exchange and SQL from physical servers to virtual machines... thoughts?

  Hi all, I use VMs for several years now, however back to the use of VMWare. I am currently running ESXi 4 on 2 servers separate host, with about 16 small resource type of the applications without any problem. I heard years keep intensive stuff like Exchange and SQL out of a VM guest, for reasons of system, but now I see a ton of articles from VMWare and windows push the thing to do. I have a relatively small environment compared to what they are touting... I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has any experience/thoughts on this? If I go this route I would probably look to buy some of the nicer features instead of using just the free version of ESXi.

  My current Setup uses HP DL360G5 servers that are coming out of warranty early next year, with the disk subsystem provided by a built environment of Equallogic iSCSI, on an isolated GB network SAN. I thought rather than buy 2 replacement servers that I can put the money to the full version of vSphere with some other goodies it offers.

  My Exchange environment is a relatively small number of boxes letters, but larger in size, running 2003 currently with 200 mailboxes to about 300 GB of space. I intend to switch to 2007 or 2010 next year as part of the migration of VM. I have to go to the next version will include likely standing another server, so I might be looking to buy 2 servers instead of 1.

  My SQL environment is small to begin with, a single instance of SQL 2005 with about 20 DB 120 GB in total size.

  2 guest machines I have are two Quad-processor Xeon dual socket with 16 GB and 24 GB of RAM, with less than 50% of RAM use each... and the processing power is hardly be affected at all.

  You just need to do some analysis of storage before you virtualize servers in order to understand the needs of e/s. But if you move storage to local disk then any loss of performance, you can get to virtualize the server is offset by the gains in terms of the solution of SAN - faster storage & drives high-performance, virtual RAID, active\active controllers, cache... etc.

• Unable to add agents to Exchange and active directory fglam

  I'm having issues getting the announcement and exchanging cartridges to add new agents. The Exchange and the advertising agent package has been properly deployed. However, when you try to add and configure new agents, errors will prevent the installation of the future.

  I get the following error whenever I try to install Exchange followed 5.6.3.1 agent version.

  "Access error to the mydomain.com with the supplied user name and password: javax.naming.CommunicationException: mydomain.com:389 [root exception is java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect].

  I confirmed usernames are correct and work passwords and user account has access to connect to Exchange and to perform operations.

  I opened all the ports required by the installation docs and Foglight requirements. The network between the FMS and fglam boxes and Exchange are on opposite sides of a firewall.

  I fear that port 389 is not yet open, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the exchange connection and agents of the AD through the firewall. If so, what has been your experience?

  A number of things I've noticed in the past:

  1 make sure that the machine/machine virtual fglam is running have enough memory for the fglam create agents.

  2. for AD and exchange please check the release notes for these agents, especially when AD/Exchange running on Windows 2008 R2, there are a lot of prerequisites to allow agents to collect data.

  3. If you did the pre requirements, I saw cases where it took a long time for the system to respond. In these cases what I usually do, is go to administration > dashboard status agent and change the properties of the agents. I give the connection timeout, a very high value (typically, I add a few zeros to the number that is there).

  In addition, if you check the edocs you will see both for AD and Exchange there is a troubleshooting section and a guide to diagnosis remotely.

  Yes, I want to talk and EC2 instance and I am able to do Dreamweaver to easily connect using SFTP which I believe is a SSH protocol. See the image below. This method works.

  I currently have a test instance and will finally have an instance of production when the site is finished.

  Local environment is not installed on my workstation and my thought was that put it on the server would allow transparent operation including scripts on the server side. The testing station is not public.

• Extensions Exchange and Kuler, unable to connect costs to install CC products

  I just installed CC yesterday (PS, ID, I, PR, FL, DW, LR, AE, Exchange and a few others). After the success of the download and installation, nothing in the extensions Panel will load. Of course, I have that Kuler and Exchange at the moment but, no connects to any product. The product of Exchange will connect stay but the extension won't. Here is a screen-cap of the window. Any suggestions? I already checked the "allow the Exchange to connect" button is checked in all products.

  -The fact that your AdobeOnlineDefault registry value is set to 0 is most likely the problem.

  Set this value to 0 tells the Adobe Extensions to "do not connect to the Internet" - and 1 configuration allows extensions to connect to the Internet. It is very curious that this value is set to 0 in your registry - perhaps another extension on your machine previously set this property to 0 without intending to influence the other extensions. Can you try changing this value to 1, by restarting your computer and then by opening the Panel change once again?

  If it still does not work, try to send the newspapers for me and I'm going to continue the investigation.

  I have a few general questions, ranging from corresponding EM simulation symbol creation and design of network environment. I would be really grateful if someone could take some time to respond to these in as much detail as possible.

  (1) I use iMatch Wizard in iFilter to design the matching network of entry for the LNA and PA. But I noticed that I get the best correspondent for the LNA (verified by Zin measurement at the source of the device with the included matching network) when I do the correspondence for the combined impedance. However, in the case of the PA, this happens only if I design the network with the correct impedance and not its complex conjugate. Anyone know why this is the case? Or by popular practice, in which case the combined complex should be used for the corresponding network design?

  (2) how can I create my own .syf file to be used as a symbol for a system I design? If I have the .syf how do I appear in my list of existing library of symbols?

  (3) in the EM simulation environment, how to decide the spacing of the grid? Yet once, EMsight I cannot add ports in the structure of Employment, if the structure is not aligned with the grid. How to manage the grid alignment so that the ports are attached without worries? Also, in the EM structure is an available at the entrance x and is coordinated to a partciular shape/structure so that it will sit in the coordinates and will allow me to build the forms around him?

  1. it is the plug.  You are probably using the gamma to the research in the output in the design of LNA (so your load must be combined), but using the desired gamma (manufacturer?) load design PA

  2. up to the v11, it's probably easier to just import the .syf in each project where you want to use: project > Circuit symbols > import symbol.  In v11, just help > show files/directories... > AppDataUser, create a folder named symbols and empty the file .syf in there.

  3 EMSight is ideal for the subset of the problems to which it applies, but otherwise it's pretty restrictive.  The ports must be on the limit, either on the walls or up/down drivers.  The latter requires a via, which does not incorporate to turn off automatically. etc.

  X and are grid sizes are defined in the enclosure.  When you draw, you can press the tab key to enter the coordinates manually.  However, I recommend that you check the mesh on the structure of your EM before you simulate to make sure that you are not shorting adjacent shapes, or decompose adjacent metal.  Download AXIEM, it blows EMSight out of the water.

  I am currently a student at my VCP and stumbled upon a question and was hoping someone could explain the answer offered.  Essentially the question is asking why you must manually create a local VMFS volume.  The possible answers were: files of storage for the service console log, decentralized storage for all the vmkernel vmkernel swap activity Exchange files for virtual machines that are configured locally and swap files from service console for the console service RAM overcommitment.

  It is my understanding that the swap partition has its own format.  When you create the necessary partitions for installing ESX format the swap partition is 'swap', not vmfs or ext - 3.  Then, because the last three options are to swap/activity files, I chose the first choice, storage for the service console logs.  This study guide says I'm wrong and the answer is VMKernel swap files for virtual machines that are configured locally.   Of course, Miss me something here...

  How you store Exchange files on VMFS partition?  I thought that the swap partition is the only place to have to Exchange files, and then it is on its own partition.  You cannot store a partition on a partition.

  Maybe it's the difference between a swap file and a swap partition which is tripping me?

  Search for, swap space as it is usually is a place to store a replica of memory the system for the purpose of managing memory better (usually data that are accessed most often).

  SWAP PARTITION is now, for the ESX SWAP space.

  And the EXCHANGE FILE is for some particular VM swap space that can be used by the guest operating system. The use of this file is managed by VMkernel. Now, this swap file has some different features from the windows of i.e normal swap, linux or ESX swap space space.
