Expand the partition root, RHEL5 & VMware Player

For some reason, the root partition is created with only about 4 GB of space with RHEL 5. Since this is where all the binary files are stored, he quickly gets filled to the top (for me anyway). I would like to expand this to about 10 GB, but I can't. I tried to increase the size of the VHD, but 'Utilities' is greyed out under "Hard drive" in the control of virtual computer settings.

So... my question: how either extend partition or create a virtual machine in the first place, which has more than 4 GB of space?

Thank you!

  • Can I make a partition D on VMWare Player?

    Hey all.

I am new to the community and VMware.

I use a non-commercial (free) version of VMware Player. I do a few laboratories of practice using Microsoft Servers. Some of the steps in my hands-on labs require a formatting drive D.

My problem is, when I create the Machines, disk space is allocated on the C drive. There is no option to partition and create logical drives.

The ""Options " are included in the"parameters "Manager allows adding additional HDs.» But not for the default partitioning, 40GB HD.

I need to be able to run these commands... ["ntdsutil > activate ATN example > ifm > create sysvol full d:\ifm '] in order to complete the laboratory as well as additional measures that depend on the completion of this exercise. The command fails, because VMware Player always default to a huge drive C.

Does anyone know of a work around this in VMware Player?

    Thank you

Try to add a new disk in VMware Player editing options and then format the drive in Windows.

Your virtual machine must be stopped before you add the disk.

  • Remote Desktop does not work after the recent update to VMWare Player, why?

I have VMWare Player installed on a host with multiple virtual machines. I like to the DRC to the remote host and I've been in months, but in the recent update to VMWare Player, my connection to the DRC has dropped. Now when I try to the DRC to the host it hangs at "Estimate the quality connection" after I get my user name and password, but then it stops without errors or messages. I've updated the host and rebooted several times, I also tried to DRC from a computer on the same local network as the host with no result. I have a friends in exactly the same problem, connection dropped in the middle of the update and no resolution yet. Help?

I uninstalled VMWare Player and did a clean install (rather than updating an earlier version) and the problem is solved!

  • mount the partition root to esx 4.1 in rescue livecd mode

Hi guys! I have problem with recovery of esx 4.1 upd 3 Server. To my shame, I deleted /lib64/libc-2.5.so--> link lib64/libc.so.6, then restarted a server. So now, esx makes a core dump and does not start (Kernel panic not syncing kill init). I thought it was a piece of cake to boot from livecd linux, mount the partition root of esx and recreate the link but it was not as simple as that. In rescue of the livecd mode (redhat 5), I can only mount/boot partition for esx. Command fdisk-l shows a single device (/ dev/sda1) with linux fs and other devices sdaX with extended and uknown fs types and mount error on these devices. Mount/dev/sda1 gives me a partition/boot of esx. On another host esx 4.1 with a similar configuration command df shows partition/Boot resides on the device/dev/sdd1 while other partitions as root/var/log are located on/dev/sdeX devices. After having investigated further, I found that/dev/sdd is a local protected by car while/dev/sde does not match any network SAN or raid connected locally to the readers. Tomorrow I will try to boot from the esx installation media and see if there is something simillar to rescue mode and try and do something here. I have no idea what to do if it won't help. In the hope to hear a good advise to you guys!

Do a new installation on a disk SAN and after booting from it, I was able to solve the problem with the link. Old server is running. But after all I agree with you markdjones82 - it would be faster and easier to reinstall from scratch.

  • What is the latest version of VMware Player?

    Hello

There seems to be some confusion about the latest version of VMware Player.

Please see the screenshot. The title is 'VMware Player 4.0.2', but the individual downloads are "VMware Player 4.0.1".

I downloaded the Linux version and help-> about said 4.0.1.

So, how to get the version 4.0.2?

    TIA

    Kurt

    vmware01.png

If you click on the link download (win version) the downloaded file is 'VMware-player - 4.0.2 - 591240.exe' and the md5sum is different from the 4.0.1 download further down the page... If Im assuming this is actually 4.0.2 and they just made a mistake on the page.

  • Connect two VMs via the connection to the local network using VMWare Player

So this topic can be posted already, but I'm at the end of the roll, trying to find a solution. I have VMWare player installed 3.1.4 on an enterprise_x64 of Windows 7 system. I configured two virtual machines: OS1 comments: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.5_x64 and OS2 comments: WIndows 7 Ultimate_x64. I need the Linux server to act as a database server in the system environment, that I am creating. The Windows 7 VM will be the client PC. The Linux server is configured to be it's own DHCP server, so ideally the client PC connects to the field of tht and also follow the Linux server IP address.

I tried all the options of networkign for each virtual computer, but no sem to create this type of connectivity. How to configure the network settings in VMWare Player to make two virtual computers can communicate with each other via a virtual network? (Communication with the host pc is not necessary)

The short answer is to manually install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, Editor of virtual networkand configure VMnet2 without DHCP and host vNIC and then configure manually each virtual machine network adapter to use Custom VMnet2.

The longer answer has already been given so many times that you should be able to find detailed directions, however...

To install the lack vmnetcfg.exe, virtual network editor, run VMware-player-* .exe-e c:\vmptmp go to a command line and then in the c:\vmptmp folder, locate the file c:\vmptmp\network.cab and extract (double-click on the .cab file) vmnetcfg.exe (virtual network editor) file in the working directory of VMware Player usually ' C:\Program Files\VMware/VMware Player ' you can create a shortcut to it and place it with the shortcut of VMware Player if you want to access more easily to her.  This utility is not installed by default is however necessary to turn off the automatic bypass on VMnet0 if the system is multihomed and two or more physical host from the NETWORK adapter is active or you want change VMnet1 and VMnet8 subnet addresses or additional VMnets.

The you must manually change the configuration of each virtual machine's .vmx file in Notepad, change an existing parameter and add another.

    Change:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "nat"

    TO:

    ethernet0.connectionType = "custom"

    Add:

    ethernet0.vnet = "VMnet2"

Note: Regardless of connectionType ethernet (n) shows it should be changed to "custom".

Be sure also to Machine virtual are stop, not suspended and VMware Player is closed when you edit the .vmx config files.

Here are some pictures to show.

Here in the VMnet2 virtual network Editor is selected and is how it should be if you what to use your own DHCP server and the host does not have a vNIC.  You can change the IP address as a result of your needs.

Here's the value VM card network NAT settings.

This is what network settings Virtual Machine map will look like after you change the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file to use Custom VMnet2.

BTW if you replace the Machine network card virtual settings through the user interface customized by something else then you will need to manually edit the .vmx config file to retrieve.   With VMware Workstation, you do not need to manually install the virtual network editor and should not manually edit the .vmx config file as the custom list box is still present and shows all VMnets to select from.

  • Expand the partition of the VM c:\ partition

    Dear Experts,

We have recently installed a product of HP Operations manager for windows on a virtual machine after 4vCPU, 4 GB Mem and 50 GB of HARD drive as C:\ partition. The storage is not local but a SAN. The data store is on SAN set 250 GB and in the database of the other virtual machines are also.

We have seen now that gives 50 GB of space not enough for this product, and we want to expand the size say 50 GB to 80 GB. It is the partition where the OS is running, and that's Win 2008 R2 x 64 bit. I am new in this field and need to know if it is possible to extend the C:\ partition and how, is possible when the virtual machine is directly stop IT or it is required? What is the Live extension case shutdown GOLD, let me know the steps to follow on this. Also once the partition is extended how do Windows see new space and attach it to existing 50 GB c:\. What measures are necessary in Windows after you change the settings of VM.

I look forward to the support.

    Kind regards

You mean even if the virtual machine is online, it will allow me to change the settings for the hard disk, and I can put value of 80 GB, where I now have 50 GB

Yes, you can CHANGE the settings of the VM when its WE fed and add the new disc format

Please give me the video link once again, the one you gave is not a link.

How to make more partition a virtual disk, like I mean when I create a new Virtual Machine I set its size of hard drive, very well, and when I install the guest operating system, I only see partition C:\ How can I have partition D:\ as well in a virtual machine? I need to create another VDisk?

Extend its best to the new virtual disk created for the new volume, so it would be easy when you want to drive

    I have a 32-bit Win 2003 R2 STD cases.

To perform the disc spans OS of Windows 2003 is different from Windows 2008, you look for third-party tools to extend the C: drive of Windows 2003 ( http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004071 ) audit

I use a utility called extpart to extend the C drive on Windows 2003 that I posted here

  • Expand the partition

I am trying to remove a partition (F) to create one space on another (C) to install W7. But after the decline of the C partition and creating space, Expand the C partition volume is still not available. Any ideas?

I assume you mean "extend partition '...

  • Genuine Windows 7 on MacBook Pro running in the partition, BootCamp with VMware Fusion 3.1

I'm having a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

I installed Windows 7 on my Bootcamp partition and until recently he worked well as well when I ran into VMWare Fusion.

When I boot on my Windows 7 on Bootcamp partition, everything is OK.  But then when I run it in VMWare Fusion it says that my copy is not genuine.

I just went through the automated phone system and entered the codes, and so now while I'm running Fusion Windows is genuine.

I fear, however, that when I return to the execution of the partition, Bootcamp, Windows will say that is not true, once again.

Only, I have a copy of Windows 7 and can only run from the VMWare Fusion or Bootcamp partition at any time.

How can I fix it if Windows is more said that it is not authentic, when I switch from a training camp and VMWare Fusion?

I need to be able to run Windows while I'm on the side of Mac at the same time

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you used the same Windows Installer Bootcamp, VMWare Fusion product key, there is the question.  You can only install and activate a 1 license of Windows 7.  The second installation requires own license that you can buy on the Microsoft Store. Carey Frisch

  • They killed the unity mode in VMWare Player 12. Can I get the installation program for Player 7

Really sucks - VMWare killed unity Player 12 mode. If I had known that I have would have stuck to 7 Player - it worked very well.

Anyone know if it is possible to get the installer for 7?

    Thank you

Yes, we have abandoned the support unit for Linux customers only.  It is sad to see the function will, but our information indicates that Linux unit has been rarely used, and it was extremely difficult to maintain a level of quality that our customers expect, so we took the difficult decision to remove it.

Try to download Player 7 from here: Download VMware Player 7.x

    See you soon,.

  • Error playing the virtual machine in VMware Player

    Hi all

I am getting error below while reading VM(UI VM.ova) UI in VMware Player. Everyone has also same error. Help, please.

    Thanks in advance,

    RizQad

It is in fact no error, but the result of not being able to get the automatic (DHCP) IP settings. Please check which virtual bridged network (Host-Only, NAT) is configured for the virtual computer and check if the related DHCP service is running. Also make sure that NIC of the virtual computer is configured with "Connect to light". If no DHCP server is available, follow the instructions in the red part of the screen.

  • Can I register the Virtual Machine of VMware player esxi 4 4.1?

There are a few virtual machines running in VMware player version 4, now I need to migrate on ESXi 4.1...

It's Possible he just copy and past the files of virtual machines running in vmware player in the data store then register the same in the esxi server and power on... This will not work?

because I do not V2V method...

    With respect,

You run the virtual machine on HW 8, that you will not be able to simply move the ESXi machine.

The only supported option is to do a conversion on reviews of downgrade the material relating to immigration to vSphere

  • automatic start of the virtual machine on vmware player 2.5.1?

Can VMWare Player 2.5.1 the virtual machine autostart when it starts? I have Windows running VMWare Player when it starts, but just, this brings me to the main page of player where you can open file, recent opening, etc. You still have to physically click to open the virtual machine. So is there a way that I could automate it to just run itself when it opened (change of maybe a file somewhere)? If this version/product does not support this, can you recommend one that does?

Player doesn't have the ability to auto-start the virtual machines.  The fact of VMware Server.  Server start virtual machines when Windows starts, not when you start the server GUI, which is not exactly what you are referring, but is usually what most people want when they want machines virtual autostart.

'office' versions of Windows are listed as taken hosts supported OS.  Many threads on these forums about the small nagging issues with networking and such when to use Server on unsupported hosts, especially hosts Vista and Win7.  You don't specify what version of Windows you are using as the host.  If it is a server version, VMware Server is an option for you.

But a simple solution is to simply make shortcuts to the. Files in the folder of your VMX virtual machine.

  • Expand the partition of drive E

    Hello

One of my partiton "drive is only 20 GB and has expanded up to 50GB for my project work, I don't want to delete the E partition and create a new partition of 50GB, since I am a customer Oracle installed on this partition.

All suggestions will be useful for increaing the partition

There are two problems with this post:

    1. this process was applicable to environmental esx3.0. 3.5 brings the ability to resize the disk through VC - which means no required command line.

    2. he need a second System 2003 because they extended the partition system (c :) drive. You indicated that you extend the E: drive, so no need to another windows system.

The actual process for the diskpart is correct, however. Try http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/09/26/using-diskpartexe-as-disk-management-alternative-in-windows-vista-2000-2003-and-xp/ for more clear instructions.
