Expectations of reading Flash Cache
I start looking for flash caching. We lack version 5.5 on Dell PE servers connected to a PS6000 EQ. We have been hitting our max IOPS fairly regularly on the equalizer. We have a few writing intensive VMs Windows doing statistical analysis and some Linux VM a web hosting infrastructure. The average ratio of writing on the EQ is high enough, usually 90%, because some of the Windows virtual machines are very active, while everything else is fairly inactive. When some of the Windows virtual machines get his job stat, we begin to see latency on web VMs, especially those that host the databases (as you know).
I understand the flash read cache will not help high write workloads, but it would help individual web virtual machines who see some latency no - is that correct?
Also, I am reading the guide of best practices flash cache, but I was wondering if anyone had advice from real world for the size of the cache on the VMS or thoughts on the use of some of the ssd for the swap of the host. If we put an ssd in each of our hosts, should set us aside a certain percentage for the swap to host?
Thank you.
Tim
Unless you have problems with memory capacity, I wouldn't worry too much on the caching of the swap host. If you are out of memory, then consider adding more ram or evolution and the addition of several hosts.
As for the flash cache, did consider you - PernixData - you can speed up both read and write performance, which gives to your configuration, I think that would be the type of solution, you should consider caching.

Update 24GB flash Cache hard drive for some other SSD acceleration
Hello Experts,
I plan to buy-
HP ENVY 15 t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
-With
• 1 TB 5400 RPM hard drive
• 24GB flash acceleration Cache hard driveWhat can I upgrade (/replace) 24GB flash Cache acceleration of the drive with some other SSD whose greater storage size on the line after a few days? for example 240GB Crucial SSD?
Thank you.
It's different. Any other animal. It looks like a wireless card. See below. What you could do with a standard 2.5-inch SSD is to replace the original main drive. If you could total of 240 concerts that would be OK. You will need to remove the disc from mSATA (aka WSSD) as it is useless in a WSSD Accelerator reader when you have a main SSD drive. I guess that I encourage you to wait and see how you like the stock configuration. The WSSD throttle control is very effective and can make even a 5400 RPM hard drive mechanics work almost as fast as an SSD.

Flash Cache - what is it?
Hi - I "m given to replace the HARD drive in 141na HP ENVy 17 and doing a little research before doing so. Some retailers say it has a SSD 8 GB and a 1 TB of HARD drive, while others do not.
I've been looking at the specs on the HP site and it says it has a FLASH 8 GB CACHE and other research says this;
"Flash cache is temporary storage chip NAND flash memory to allow data of queries for the data to complete more quickly..." A flash cache is often used in tandem with the slower hard drives (HDD) to improve the access time to the data. The form factor of the NAND flash is typically a the solid state drive (SSD), a PCI Express (PCIe) card or a module DIMM- base flash device installed in connectors of the server memory. "
Does that mean that upgrading to an SSD will be have a limited effect (bearing in mind I've only will use to store the OS and a few programs like Photoshop top with all my work files on the 1 TB HARD drive or I am barking the wrong tree here.)
All the advicde greatly appreciated.
Chris
The NAND flash cache is actually built into the hard drive, I'm pretty sure. I can confirm that if you go into Device Manager and view the description of the hard disk device. That means that when you remove the drive hard drive will also remove you the "flash cache. While hard disks with flash cache mSATA WSSD accelrator cache disks / improve performance they ain't nothing like a pure SSD main drive. The cache flash and other similar arrangements can accelerate sustained as an SSD read/write operations.

Question about smart flash cache
If my entire db is less than the amount of smart flash cache that is available, Exadata would automatically cache entire DB in smart flash cache?
I understand I can say Exadata at the tables of the PIN in the cache but just curious if Exadata would on its own in this scenario.
Thank you.user12254641 wrote:

Caching is performed because of access to data, so frequently accessed data will be cached. Given at the cold end of the LRU algorithm gets years off and replaced.
It is very similar to the DB buffer cache - you don't expect all your data to cache simply because the cache DB is greater than your data. However, if the frequently accessed data can all be cached, it will be.

Need advice from configuration to the flash cache multi-node RAC/ASM
We have a database of CARS to work two nodes. We install a new fusion 640 GB flash card in each node. The is a double card, so that it shows up as two devices: / dev/fioa and/dev/fiob on each node.
We have created two groups of private drives, one on each node. The Group of disks on node 1 is '+ FLASHCACHE' and the disk on node 2 group is "+ FLASHCACHE2".
We have not found specific examples of how to configure the parameters of the init for flashcache on RAC/ASM. We guess that we must do the following. If anyone would be critical and confirm or suggest something different, we would appreciate it very much!
"prod1.db_flash_cache_file ='+ FLASHCACHE/flash1"
prod2.dg_flash_cache_file = '+ FLASHCACHE2/flash2'
* .db_flash_cache_size = 600G
Thanks for any advice.
Jim
Published by: jimbev90 on January 5, 2012 08:18Hi Jim,.
prod1.db_flash_cache_file='+FLASHCACHE/flash1' prod2.dg_flash_cache_file='+FLASHCACHE2/flash2' *.db_flash_cache_size=600G
Your configuration is correct.
Smart Flash Cache database is not shared across RAC nodes. It is private to each RAC instance. For this reason, each RAC instance must define its own local cache of flash file path. When the flash cache is managed by ASM, a separate diskgroup is necessary for each instance flash cache.
You can use ALTER SYSTEM for db_flash_cache_size set to zero to disable the flash cache. Alternatively, you can use ALTER SYSTEM to deliver the flash cache to its original size to reactivate it.

ZBOOK 17 - Flash Cache &; general system failure
Greetings,
History:
On my first install of windows on my 17 Zbook, the operating system installed the system reserved on the flash SSD cache partition. I thought I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1 TB SSD. I removed all hard drives and flash installed the operating system cache, then turned off the computer and re-installed the cache flash. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 flashes on the caps/NumLock with a pretty black screen.
Has anyone encountered this before? All I could do to fix it? Thanks in advance,
Ryan
Thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to do that next time.
I eventually found how to fix it. I removed all the readers, disconnected from all power and then removed the BIOS battery. He gave some time, clinging to power, and she came back to life. Of course he gave me some error messages, but after removing the power again and reconnect all devices (the ssd of 32 GB samsung flash cache included) then turn it on, everything was back to normal.
No idea why she wanted to play dead but at least he's back running.

Whenever I open the bridge, I get the Message "bridge has encountered a problem and cannot read the cache. Please try to purge central cache in the cache preferences to correct the situation. »
Please suggest solution.
Hi Adam,.
Well, you purge the Cache?
If not, did you go to the preferences, go to the caching and the last option is to purge the Cache.
Also @Debbie: you could try to rebuild settings. To do this off bridge and then restart Bridge. However, having fingers on shift-Option-control at the start of Bridge. Keep until a window offering to reset preferences, purge entire thumbnail Cache and reset Standard workspaces. I suggest you choose the first two.
And Abdul, you might want to try that as well.
Let us know if this does nothing for you

Bridge has encountered a problem and cannot read the cache
For past couple of months, whenever I have start Adobe Bridge directly (and), it gives me an error saying: "bridge has encountered a problem and cannot read the cache. Please try to purge central cache in the Cache preferences to correct the situation. " I do the same through the preferences. And then the bridge takes a long time to load the thumbnails. And next time when I restart Adobe Bridge, same problem.
It started hapennign all of a sudden for the last two months. It has been previously very quickly.
Please notify all solutions.
This notice of page adobe faecebook worked for me:
Sometimes the purge of preferences is not all MS... So, you can manually go and delete the cache folder Bridge CS6.
1. exit the bridge
2. If mac goto: Users/username/Library/Caches/Adobe /.
3 remove the Bridge CS6 (or whatever version you have) file
4 restart Bridge. He will rebuild the folder and the files included in this one.HTH

Hello
I know that Flash Cache is slower than RAM, but can we say that doesn't cache smart flash the same work as the Oracle TimesTen Database Cache?
Wrong or right?
Thank you very much for helping me in my understanding.
Edited by: 905160 Dec 30. 2011 00:58Bad :-) Smart Flash Cache is still in the storage layer and so does nothing to eliminate the code path heavy of a disc centered on the RDBMS. One of the main advantages of TimesTen is there a short circuit code path a lot thanks to its simple design and optimizations in the memory. There is a large part of the improved source performance. Also smart flash cache does not all access operations, but only those that use the smart cache.
Smart Flash Cache is a great way to help the performance of a focused database on disk and it is used wisely in the Exadata buffer. But you should consider not equivalent to, or a substitiute for, cache TimesTen in-Memlory database. These are very different things, work very differently from each other and offer different benefits.

Hello:
I had trouble with DW. A couple of days ago my computer crashed as DW approached, apparently damaged some files or something like that and now when I try to open DW it gives me an error message and then crashes, this occurs when reading the cache information. I can't open to change the settings or something like that, simply because it does not start.
AppName: dreamweaver.exe AppVer: 7.0.2052.0 ModName: dreamweaver.exe
ModVer: 7.0.2052.0 Offset: 0056d84d
Is it possible to avoid this error? as a replacement of a file or change of somenthing change or remove site settings?You can try this simple fix-
Stop DW.
Find this file-
C:\Documents and Settings\
\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
MX2004\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat(these files are normally hidden - you may have to use Explorer > tools >)
To view the Folder Options)and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

Flash cache initialization settings
Hi, I recently got patched up OEL and works with a flash mounted on my system drive... I now want to have a play around with oracle flash cache...
I need set the following... db_flash_cache_file and db_flash_cache_size
could someone help me with the syntax to do? is this something in the sense of
ALTER system set db_flash_cache_file ='/ media/ssd /';
ALTER system set db_flash_cache_size = "xxgb"?
Any help would be appreciated
for example, I tried...
SQL > alter system set db_flash_cache_file ='/ media/ssd /';
ALTER system set db_flash_cache_file ='/ media/ssd /'
*
ERROR on line 1:
ORA-02095: specified initialization parameter is not editable
Published by: user9200169 on August 11, 2010 09:50so, when I select * from v$ version and it said 11.2.0.1.0...
even if I have the version 11.2.0.1.2 due to the application of the fix 9654983?
Yes. I think that Oracle would call it version no version. If search you metalink patch 8974084 you will see the patch for versions/versions: 11.2.0.1.0 and 11.2.0.1.1.
to remedy this situation all I should follow the steps below:
1 restore 9654983
2. apply 9352237
3 then apply 8974084... then the flash cache must be enabled?
fix. do not forget to enter 8974084 for 11.2.0.1.1.

Hosts: DL360 G6, dual quad core, 64 GB of RAM
Discs: 3 SAS 10K rpm and 2 SSD Spidles.
I am trying to set up one of the hosts of Read Cache Flash but I get the desciptive never so much and the defenseless error message...
"Configuration on disk/vmfs/device/disks/naa. < longguid > has failed. "Reason: an error occurred during the configuration of the host.
I hope that there is a log file I can verify for a more profound description of this lame error message.
Can someone tell me where I can check on this error?
Thank you
Oh. k. so, it is the function of Read Cache (vFRC) Flash of vSphere and nothing to do with VSAN
check the diaries which is throwing this error.
ESP: /var/log/hostd.log and log/var/log/vmkernel of corresponding calendar. This will show what is happening here
You can check the following
one.
Check if SSD LUNS are not used / no other partition
# partedUtil getptbl/vmfs/devices/drives.
b.
Also check that the SSD lun on that host are local and eligible for the vflash
List of devices # esxcli storage vflash
