Explorer.exe handle is invalid

When I right click the icon of control panel in the start menu to the top menu I get an explorer.exe error that says that the handle is invalid. What causes this error and how can I fix it?

  • Windows 7 "the handle is invalid" cannot open .exe files?

Since I think that a month ago, I was unable to open all the executable files on my computer. I always get the error message "the handle is invalid." I am running windows 7 and I don't really have anything that is downloaded over the months that could cause this problem.

    Hello Kevin,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    1. You did it any significant hardware or change software on the computer before this problem?
    2. What is the location and the size of the file?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists:

Method 1: Run the Fixit to repair files and folders:

Diagnose and repair Windows files and folders problems automatically

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag

Method 2: SFC Run scan into the computer

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, click OK, or alternatively click on Yes.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

For more information, refer to this link:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

Method 3: To search the hard disk errors

    Check a drive for errors

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors.

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

Please follow these recommended steps, review the additional information provided and post back if you still have the problem. I will be happy to provide you with additional options.

The problem is that explorer.exe crashes every 3 to 8 seconds.

I had a quick glance at the file hmdp and tbh it means nothing to me.

Could someone kind take a look on it and maybe point me in the right direction?

  • Explorer.exe crashes when access to the context menu of any file character 1 long

I use Windows XP SP3 and Explorer keeps if crush when I access the contextual (right click menu) not any folder that is one character long (a - z, 0-9).  For example, the folder labeled a will fail if it contains files or subfolders, if there in any directory, if it is on another drive, on the context menu.  In addition, in order to exclude any invalid context record, I have disabled all non-Microsoft tool ShellMenuView context menus.  I also tried to run Fixit 50043.  I also did a scan antivirus with norton antivirus.  Found nothing, no improvement.  It is 100% compatible.  BTW, I have already run System File Checker, and asides from this problem my system is perfect.  Everyone knows about this problem?  Any ideas on how to fix this problem without having to re - install XP?

This applies only when the folder is labeled 1 character.  I don't know how the visual c ++ runtimes into play with explorer.exe in the context menu.  Re-don't install C++ runtimes for 2005, 2008, 2010 shows no improvement and install it with success.
I get an error in visual c ++ runtime library.

Nevermind, pretty sure winmount was the culprit.  Somehow, he escaped ShellMenuView, I disable the integration of shell of in the program and the turn is played.

  • Error 6 Handle is invalid

OK, this has me completely baffled.  A client brings me a laptop and simply told me that the internet does not work.  Yes, I can help with that.  Internet on this laptop is via a card of Kyocera KPC680 airtime wireless and came with Quicklink Mobile software.

    1. uninstalled software, drivers, everything associated with the card and this particular connection.  After you have everything reinstalled, the result is the same.  Error 6: Handle is invalid

2 found information online indicating that a registry error may be the cause of errors with this type of connection.  With this information, I have CCleaner and do a record check and correct.  Still in train, error 6: Handle is invalid.

    3. after that I got to thinking, maybe Valentine's.  We will try the card in another computer and see if it works.  And in the other computer connects and works very well.  The question therefore with the computer... somewhere.

    4. After talking with the customer a little they tell me the problem started when he installed Norton.  OK, uninstall all Symantec and Norton.  Crossed and made sure it was all gone, including all registry entries.  Still the same error 6: Handle is invalid.

    5. scoured internet for answers and found mention of rarepair.exe, a file which has been shown to work to fix this exact problem in Windows XP and in some cases, Windows Vista.  A little more research links to the same thread of the forum with the same download and the same steps.  Download the file, the scanner on another computer virus and it's free.  Now I think I've tried all the rest, so what can it hurt.  Run the file and it passes through it.  It uninstalls, restarts, relocations and after him affecting everything back up.  Error 6: Handle is invalid

6 tried to reset tcp/ip stack as suggested by a friend tech... always the same 6 error: Handle is invalid

I am at a loss.  I tried almost everything I can think and find (or gets suggested by technicians colleagues) and none of it worked.  The only thing I can think of right now is updated the firmware on the card, but if that was the issue, it wouldn't have problems on other computers?

Someone at - it any other suggestions?

    Hi RKCompServices,

    1. is the airtime wireless card detected in Device Manager?
    2. when exactly you receive the error message?

First check if the air card is detected by windows in Device Manager.

    1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If the air card is detected in the Device Manager, then go to the link below and check if there is an update available for the aerial map download and install, check if it works.

Use the link below to download the Norton removal tool to completely remove Norton of the computer.

    Hello

read this information on the Defender:

    ·                         If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender

and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of application to scan for spyware and malware

It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do

If the above does not apply to your machine to read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-service-in-Windows-Server-2008-or-Vista/

and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/remove-Windows-Defender-from-Vista-system-startup/

and this is how you would normally activate or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders of own and options tools

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/disable-Windows-Defender-for-Microsoft-Vista/

and if you need to change startup programs read this information on the other methods of doing it without using defender

    using msconfig read this tutorial:

How to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista

Here's how to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista to disable some unnecessary programs that load automatically at startup

    http://netsquirrel.com/Msconfig/msconfig_vista.html

and also try this FREE program Autoruns:

This utility, which has a knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs configured to run at system startup or login and that the entries in the order of processing windows. These programs include those in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other registry keys. Can you provide files to dump via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site?

  • Windows 7: chain explorer.exe endlessly about the file type association

Today I tried to .jar archives open as files compressed by default instead of running in Java on opening. My first guess on how to proceed was with C:/Windows/explorer.exe, and I did it by r-click on a .jar file, select open with > choose default program... then by navigating to the explorer.exe directory and check the "always use the selected program to open this type of file."

This is where it goes horribly wrong. Apparently, Windows Explorer cannot say himself to open a file with itself. When I try to open a .jar file that is set to open with Windows Explorer, an endless loop of explorer.exe (in thousands) process starts one after the other, until I have run out of memory. To get rid of them, I have to restart.
Subsequently, the checkbox "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out, so I can't restore the association to its original. Using the command "assoc = CompressedFile .jar ' is as useless."
How to restore the original file .jar extension association? Also, to solve my original problem, how can I make Windows opens files .jar and folders compressed instead of using Java.exe?

I know that the default handler for ZIP is not an executable file directly, but it should be possible to associate with other types.  Filetype associations have two parts: a type of file that describes the file, like "file of Adobe Reader.  Then, who is paired with the type manager who actually links to the actions associated with the opening of this kind.

For jar files to open with the same manager as ZIP, only one side of this pair should be changed in the registry, the .jar extension.  But I wouldn't really recommend a do it manually because of the potential problems of editing the registry.  Set a restore point or backup of the registry, then try the following steps - at your own risk/peril :)
    • Look at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip and see the structure.  Note that it says .zip is CompressedFolder.
    • Knowing this, look at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CompressedFolder.  Here you can see the actual command used to open these files (as well as the "friendly display name' which is used to describe these files when you hover over them and others).
    • For JAR files to do the same, you just change the .jar entry, then set it to the default CompressedFolder type.  Who told him to use the same settings as CompressedFolder.
  • Infect winlogon.exe, explorer.exe virus and virus Hosts-DNS

    Hi guys,.

A laptop computer, that I'm not using has recently been infected with a virus from winlogon.exe and explorer.exe and one DNS host virus.
I tried to use avast: edition free, malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy.
And as a last resort, I used Norton Power Eraser...

The problem is not cleaner Antivirus or antispyware can eliminate this type of virus.
And not boot into safe mode and try to remove it from there do not remove viruses at all.
I took this laptop a laptop technician where he took out the hard drive and scanned for viruses, but when I came back the virus or on it.

What can I do to remove these viruses, since it has severely reduced performance on my pc and the virus's keep redirect my Web pages, I will be using internet explore?
I think that the virus has embedded themselves inside the windows operating system.

    Thank you
    Brent

    Hi mate

Usually the explorer.exe, winlogon.exe are running Microsoft files and these files belongs to the Windows operating system and must be placed in the folder C:\Windows\System32.
If it a case then these are not viruses.

However, you can try the Antivirus application free Avira Antivirus software.
Google for it you can download it for free.
Scan the system and check again.

As a last option, I recommend reinstalling the system using the Toshiba recovery disc!
That would erase everything from the HARD drive.

  • The Satellite A100 recovery disk + explorer.exe

    OK, I have 2 problems,

    1. I did a virus scan and deleted TI explorer.exe I had a look in the folder with the 7z file manager and it wasn't there, also when I try the new task: explorer.exe it says it cannot be found. I can't explorer.exe from the recovery disk?

    2. I tried using the recovery disc after I couldn't find explore and he loading and all, while mouse came, then about 3 seconds later just restart computer. It's strange because I used the recovery disc b4.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    > Can I get the recovery disk explorer.exe?
No, because the recovery disk only contains an image file and it would not be possible to get only the explorer.exe

    > 2. I tried using the recovery disc after I couldn't find explore and he loading and all, while mouse came, then about 3 seconds later just restart computer. It's strange because I used the recovery disc b4.
I put t know how you used this disc, but you can only use it in a sense. You can start only this recovery disk and this will lead to a new installation of the OS and the HARD drive will be formatted too.

If you want to get the job of the OS so I recommend you either reinstall the operating system, or you can assign to the OS to the point of time at the beginning.

    See you soon

  • Explorer.exe does not work correctly.

    Hello everyone.

My name is George Sebros and I have a Toshiba Satellite A300.
The reason why I post this new topic, it is that I need a little help from someone who knows something about my above problem:
One day, about 2 months ago... I turn on my Satellite A300.
When he connected, not only none of my icons appeared but also the start menu does not...
The only thing that appeared in a screen totally BLACK, has been my folder "Documents and Settings" which opened automatically.
There was no way I could find neither the start menu (I mean the taskbar), or my icons...
So, whenever I close the Documents and Settings folder that had appeared, the only thing I could see was a black screen...
It was a kind of shock to me and I couldn't believe my eyes...

After a few days, I tried the well-known combination "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" to see what was working and what was not.
Then I pressed the 'FILE', then 'NEW TASK' and finally, I typed the word 'explorer' in there.
That's all! Suddenly, all turn to normal like the day before the problem started. I was happy with it, I could use my Satellite A300 again!
However, it is an indirect way to do my work PC!
This means that I'm still fain to use this indirect way to make the icons and the taskbar appears.
This means that the 'explorer.exe' does not work?
Many programs registry I use notify me on some HKY... files that contain DATA NON. I have to let you know that the explorer.exe is located in the (empty) folders.
It indicates that transplant programs that I use, point out the problem I have?
    Can someone help me?

I don't want to use the safe option of FORMATTING (also known as the FORMAT).
    Thanks in advance,
    George A. Sebros

    Hello

Seems that your Vista is confused upward
You can try to clean the registry and operating system in order to avoid the new installation of the OS.
    Please use the CCLeaner.

I use this tool as well for free and it cleans the registry and other files at the time.
    It really helps!

But if the BONE still does not work properly then you should try a new installation
Of course, this procedure is radically because the HARD disk should be formatted, but on the other hand, you will get a clean and functional BONE

  • Equium A60: I get the error message using explorer.exe

Whenever I try to open an image file using paint or Fax/Image viewer, or I try to drag a file to a folder, I get the following error message:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience ".

    The error report says:

    "AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: rpcrt4.dll.
    "ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000847a 6.

Also I can't open Web pages that open in a new window, IE. Norton Internet Security 2005 also does not open, but has claimed to be active in the background.

Does anyone have advice for me?

I tried all the help for explorer.exe on helpwithwindows.com problems but nothing suggested worked - as spyware, malaware removal. I ran a few controls on-line virus - given that Norton does not work I have tried the scans online.

The laptop was bought last year, and we have lost the recovery CD - so if we need them, then where we can get replacements?

    Thank you very much

    Jonathan

    HI Jonathan,.

It seems to me that if your OS has been corrupted, and I would recommend that you re-install. You can get the replacement of any Toshiba authorized Service partner recovery CD. You can get a list of the asp from the Toshiba web site.

    Kind regards

  • Explorer.exe error

    Hello

I have HP Pavilion e002au laptop bought about 5 months back with Windows 8.

I get the explorer.exe error after logging in each time. The laptop seems to work normally, but can someone please tell me what this error is and how it can be eliminated?

I have an original version of Windows antivirus updates and get regularly.

Is it dangerous for the laptop?

    Kind regards

    Vikram P. Gupte

    Hi Vikram6880,

During the execution of any type of control system, you should always back up your documents. The update affects all documents. It was simply an update of the system.

    Thank you.
