Export to new catalog creates a copy of my photos, why?

I want to create a new catalog for some of my photos.

I started by creating a new catalog called NEWCATALOG

Then I exported the photos selected on an another new catalog called TEMPCATALOG

I then imported TEMPCATALOG at NEWCATALOG.

My problem is that when exporting to Lightroom TEMPCATALOG a duplicate of all selected pictures (original files). Then when I imported to Lightroom NEWCATALOG TEMPCATALOG imported the files but they are now pointed at the duplicate of files not the originals.

I'm doing something wrong.

I wish just to create a new catalog for some of my photos but the catalog associated with the original files.

Any help would be appreciated.

My original catalogue has 164 000 photos and Lightroom is very slow.  8GB RAM IMAC 27 "2013 model. Recent OSX Yosemite.

Thanks much for any thoughts or help them.

When you did export to a new catalog, you probably checked the checkbox 'include the negatives '. If you have unchecked the box, then you don't get duplicates and you do not get these other problems. Poor choice of words by Adobe, in my opinion.

  • Export a Collection new catalog WITHOUT copy/move the files?

Hello everyone.  I use LR 5.5 on Windows 8.1 and currently having all my images in one catalog. My goal is to separate my images in 3 catalogues separate, based on the object WITHOUT moving/copying files to the location of the existing file structure.

I organized all the images in 3 different collections in the catalog.  When you select the images in a collection and using the function «Export as catalog...» ", LR still wants to copy the images to the folder that contains the new catalog.  As part of my work, I voluntarily my structure of files organized into a structure of YYYY-MM-DD files on several disks.  I have no desire to move away from this structure.  Instead, I just want LR to create a new database of catalogue with all the metadata associated with the images that I export... including the current location of the files.

Is - it possible and, if so, how do I remove?  I tried to go on the road to simply duplicate the file *.lrcat a different name and then by deleting items in some catalogs, but which is problematic with the index errors, etc.  I'd rather widely the approach 'additive' anyway to try to keep things as clean as possible with little effort.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you run the file > export as catalog command, there is an option to include the negatives. Make sure that it is not selected.

However, fragmenting the control of your picture collection is a recipe for confusion and I advise you don't not to go forward. With your folder structure, what makes sense, you'll find that each disk a folder will be controlled by catalog object, the next catalog B, in another folder a few photos will be in the catalog and some in the C catalog because you pulled a mixture in one day, and maybe some pictures will get in both catalogs with different settings and metadata (guess that is 'just'). Use metadata to organize photos, not to break your catalog.

  • Export comments to Gallery online Lightroom to a new catalog

My old LR catalog had collections that have been synchronized with Lightroom Online. My clients put comments on their pictures, including synchronized with my old catalog. I create a new catalog with some of the old pictures that have comments. I want to keep the comments on the images in my new catalogue, if possible.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks advance!

    Dustin

All comments provided by LR Web / Mobile and other services like Flickr edition are enclosed in the LR catalog, unfortunately. It is not currently sort out, other than manually by copying and pasting.  For example you could right click on the comment in the comments Panel, select copy, then paste the comment in the caption box (but the author and the date/time of the comment will be not glued).

Not even plugins can access the comments.  Overall, the comments have the feel of an unfinished feature added for commercial purposes.

  • Creating a new catalog with the current settings?

I would like to create multiple catalogs, rather than keeping a huge catalog.  My problem is, when I create a new catalog that all parameters have a default value.  Is there a way to create a catalog and keep my existing settings?  If not, could I hope LR3?

    Thank you

    -Mark

Copy a lrcat file and open it, and then delete all the images of him. You can then use this empty catalog you want.

Consider, however, what you do - break control of your picture collection. Instead, you are better off Managing photos in a catalog and by optimizing and saving regularly. You can always sup divide your photos using keywords and collections smart and dumb.

It's the same thing in LR3 Beta when there was an effort to improve the functioning of the large catalogs, does not facilitate any fragmentation.

  • How to create a new catalog in OBIEE

    Hi all

    I followed questions

What is the use of Catalog Manager (tool) and is there ary documentation available for the user, Manager of catalog?

How can I create a new catalog (other than data of painting & sale)? I have heard we can use the Catalog Manager tool, but I tried to connect to that tool and I don't see any provision to create a new catalog?
For example OBIEE comes with paint catalog I want to create my own catalog say SalesMaster.

    Thanks in advance...
    Shivaji

    Do not so much...
Do not copy the files problemcs or... not to touch the other stuff...
Just follow this... and forget what you have done previously...

    (1) go to localDrive:OracleBIData/Web/Config
    (2) open your instanceconfig.xml file
    (3) find ** and ** tags
    (4) write the new name of catalog you want to create (suppose sh_new) then your tag should look like this
    C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\SH_New*.
    (5) save the file and restart the BI presentation service
    (6) it automatically creates the Sh_New catalog, once we begin our presentation service and you do not create anything manually...

Catalog Manager is useful in managing your reports and grant permissions to the users and folders...
The name implies you can understand that it is used to manage the catalog you have...
The list of things we can do with the Catalog Manager are: (as per my knowledge)
    (1) rename the report names, dashboard and other stuff
    (2) used to grant permissions for individual folders or specific objects for individual users.
    (3) copy and move reports to other folders
    (4) copy and move reports to another computer networked and accessible catalogue.
    (5) can modify the XML for the reports and guests present in this catalogue, if you know the XML

  • Help!  Accidentally, I created a new catalog.  I want to restore the old.

Help!  I use Lightroom cc on a MacBook Pro.  Accidentally, I created a new catalog.  Of course, none of my photos are in it.  I want to remove and restore my original catalogue.  I tried to go, the catalog opened files but I don't see my former name of catalog.

    Thank you

Use the search function of your operating system to find all files on all hard disks whose name ends in. LRCAT, and double-click on each of them is to find the catalogue you want.

  • installation of LR 6 - can I allow the update of catalogue of LR4 or create new catalog?

I update LR 6 as my version 4 will not support of Nikon D750 RAW files.  Is it safe allowing the conversion of all of the LR catalog to new version or should I create new catalog for D750 files?

    Hi FletchBayPhoto,

You must allow the upgrade of the entire catalog Lightroom 6 that it will retain all of your editing accomplished so far.

You can take backup of your Lightroom 4 catalog in order to maintain a backup for future reference.

    Kind regards

This option should always be available.

First suggestion: hold down the SHIFT key at the launch of the Organizer. Who needs to open a menu with the option to start with a new catalog.

    If it works for you?

Also, please specify your OS, Mac or Win, and version and your version.

  • Cannot create new catalog Lightroom 3.6

All of a sudden, Lightroom 3.6 does not create a new catalog to me. He worked for years, but has stopped working for no reason that I can understand.  I have new catalog name in the dialog box, click on save and then Lighroom restarts but says that it does not find the new catalogue name, that I just created.  When I look in the Explorer, I see that the folder was created, but were not the catalog files.

In addition, Lightroom is a not remember last opened catalog when it starts.  To test this, I located and opened a previous catalogue, made some changes and quit Lightroom.  When I rebooted, it reminded not of the previous catalogue, but opened another much older.  I went to Edit-> Preferences and changed the setting 'open' to 'Request' (for a catalog at the opening name) but not paste is.   So, we have developed certain anomalies here.  Can anyone help? TIA.

Worked like a charm!  Thank you.  It's a good thing to know, and the rest of the white paper was education as well.  You're my new hero.

  • How to create the new catalog, categories and products within the ACC with the CCI

    Hi all

I'm new to atg, I just want to create a new catalog, categories and products within the ACC with a BCC (publishing server) and then I have to browse through my jsp application.for added this requirement what configuration I need to do with VAC. Please help me on this ASAP.

    Kind regards
    Jyothi.MJ

There is nothing you need to do for this.
Go to ACC and create a catalog.

In the JSP using droplets CategoryLookUp get the properties of the category and its products of the child to display.

  • Missing labels and pictures in the old catalog after creating a new catalog.

I created a new catalog for pictures of the new year.  I use the same Adobe version 8 and the computer as before.  Then I imported the photos to the new catalog and labeled them.  I deleted all the titles tags keywords I is no longer necessary in the new catalogue.  However, I went to my old corset from last year today only to find 1: all the photos containing the tag under titles I deleted in the new catalogue are not there and 2:all tags and keywords are missing from the photos that are always there,  So basically, there's nothing the tag and most of the photos is absent from photoshop! How can I get back them?

    Thank you

If the files are identical, they have reconnected.

From now on, all I can suggest is delete the last batch import of files you imported earlier. And try to manually reconnect with their counterparts of the files on the disk. I know its annoying, but it's the only option left IMO.

It is always advisable to take a backup of the catalog from time to time to avoid such situations.

    Thank you

  • Created a new catalog in Lightroom 3 and all my files/folders are "gone".

Of course, I'm pretty new with Lightroom, but I am quite at a loss to explain what happened.  I wanted to create a new catalog to move files in.  I went to file > new catalog, and then "create a folder with the new catalog" dialog box, I typed in my new name and press "Save".  Boom.  Lightroom closed right.  When I opened upward, all my folders and catologs disappeared.  Nothing is displayed in the navigation section of the left side, other than securities, "Catalogs", "Files", "Collections", etc and they are empty.  In 'My Computer' all the files are still there with the DNG files in place, but LR will not show them to me.  Can someone please explain to me why I can access is no longer my catalogs?  I hope it is something simple that I just keep overlooking...

If Lightroom shuts down accidentally (computer crash, Lightroom crash, power failure) a .lock file is usually left. There are good reasons why the database creates this locking file, which I won't get in, but basically impossible to open your file catalog again until the .lock file is deleted from the hard drive.

Recommended... some people write metadata in files, others do not. It certainly isn't a necessary step. I think that the main advantage to do this, if you want to share photos with other users of Adobe products that can read the changes (LR, PS, bridge or PSE); or if you want to share other metadata (keywrods, legends, location, etc.) in the file with other people or other applications that can read these other metadata. There is therefore, no recommended way to go, there is only the way that fits your needs. The main tool to protect you against the loss of data is the Catalog backup, as there are a few things in the catalog that are never written in the metadata.

If you want to use as your first photographic application, Lightroom I advice to look at some of the many videos on Lightroom that are available online. I would also advise against Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, as (according to me), their opinion is often off of the brand or simply bad advice.
