Exporter VMWare Fusion comments for download on Amazon EC2

I understand the basic steps to Amazon [VMWare to EC2] guide, except for one problem: how to convert my .vmwarevm to one. VMDK file?

[VMWare of Amazon EC2]:using the tools of command line to import your VM for Amazon EC2 - Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud

How to convert my .vmwarevm to one. VMDK file?

You cannot convert a Virtual Machine package (.vmwarevm) to a hard file.  Just ctrl + click on the target Virtual Machine package and select to display the contents of the package.  You then have access to the files that make up the virtual machine.

  • Download VM to ESXi using VMware Fusion Pro for Mac

I am new to this game and to this community so forgive me if I missed a few points of etiquette. (I'll probably go to VMware support with that in a few days)

So I have ESXi running on my Mac Mini. Nice. I get the https:// 'Home Page' and I can browse the unused data center. So I upgraded to Fusion 7 Pro to manage and download the VMs of my Mac - but no luck with downloading at all.

First attempt, he lamented the "hardware version", I had updated to 11.

So I tried another again just on v10 and all I got was an indeterminate progress bar and then ' closely linked server after 0 bytes of response read"(see attached screenshot)

Have I missed an obvious step, or is there a problem with this Mini. (He has been on the shelf for centuries with a note on the SSD inside do not start OSX correctly, that's why I thought it would be a good candidate for the installation of the trial ESXi)

Bravo for any help/pointers for a noob

I think that the local SSD storage must simply have been duff. I wiped another mini and it seems ok download. (If I had not missed a step. Go, me!)

  • Buy VMware Fusion 7, but the v5 download and run the merger also?

I looked on the website of VMware, but impossible to find the answer to this question:

A customer can purchase VMware Fusion version 7 (the current version) but also to download and run an earlier version of VMware Fusion (for example, merger v5) for temporary use? Here's an example scenario:

    * A VMware customer has two Macs. One is an old Mac running Snow Leopard, and the other is a new Mac running Mavericks or Yosemite. The customer wants to use the new Mac, go ahead (and give the old Mac). The client runs even a few applications that are not supported on what it is later than Snow Leopard (for example PowerPC applications). The obvious solution is to run these applications in a guest of Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion on the new Mac.

    * The problem is that Snow Leopard Server does not install as a guest operating system on the recent Mac models of the client, but it can run an existing Snow Leopard Server prompt that was created on an older Mac.

    * The client has this old Snow Leopard Mac. Unfortunately, it won't run VMware Fusion 7. It will run in VMware Fusion version 5, however. The customer wants to run VMware Fusion 5 on the old Mac to create the Snow Leopard Server on old Mac prompt, then copy the comments for the new Mac where it can run under VMware Fusion 7.

    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:

--> How can the customer buy VMware Fusion 7, but also to download a copy of VMware Fusion 5 for this operation 'create a Snow Leopard Server prompt' unique on the old Mac?

-> Will VMware provide a Fusion 5 license when the trial period expires on the old Mac before the customer can get a Snow Leopard Server comments work?

I sent you this link last night via Message private and also posted in your other thread on the subject.  You should be able to use as disk utility here: create a disk image of physical Mac OS X install media.

If this process fails to create an image that starts on your newer Mac, please let us know, as this is a question we want to address.  I'm not aware of any circumstances which require a downgrade from Fusion 5 install Snow Leopard Server.

  • Uninstalling VMWare Fusion 2.0.8

Met an obstacle trying to uninstall VMWare Fusion.

    I've followed these inst:

VMware KB: Manual uninstall of VMware Fusion

But I can not find this file:

Manual uninstall of VMware Fusion 3.x and earlier versions

    1. Run the uninstall script named Uninstall VMware Fusion, which is in [Macintosh HD] / Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion /.

I'm in my Application Support folder. No file of VMWare fusion is here.  I tried with the finder to uninstall VMWare Fusion - nothing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi tsl90,

Looks like the instructions in this article are incorrect (or at least misleading).  The uninstall program is not your directory in/Library/Application Support / as the instructions immediately followed suggestions... it's rather boot Application Support in/library/your drive /, which you can join by going to the Finder and choosing go > computer, and then double-click Macintosh HD (or your boot drive), then the library , then Application Support.  (Article gives the correct location in the first step, you quoted above, but he then gave incorrect instructions on how to get to this place!)

If you are unsure that you are looking for already in the right place (which is outside your home or users folder), another approach is to use the uninstall program provided on the original image of the VMware Fusion drive.  Download VMware Fusion 2.0.8 disk image again if you want, and then open the disk image and then double-click Uninstall VMware Fusion in there.

    See you soon,.

  • VMware Fusion 5 - availability of retail box?

On behalf of those of us who are pretty old-school to want a box to go on our shelf - no one knows when boxes of VMware Fusion 5 retail will be available from VMware or in local stores of Apple directly?

  • Sharing folders hidden in VMware Fusion

    Hello

A that someone managed to share a hidden folder (ie. a directory starting with a '. ') in VMware Fusion? For example, I want to share my directory ~/.ssh with my vm linux client.

When I try to add a folder in the GUI, it appears a search dialog box but does not display hidden folders. I can't find any option to display these files. If this is not the case, is there a command line tool that I have will allow me to do?

    See you soon,.

    Dave

Even if you expose files hidden in Finder that will allow you to see them in Virtual Machine > settings... > sharing or you will be able to see displayed by default in the operating system invited via '\\vmware-host\Shared' files , unless you change the settings to view the folders hidden with the hosts control however operating systems here is a workaround.

Using your need to see the hidden file ~/.ssh here, that's what I did.

The following has been done with the Virtual Machine to stop target of in the guest operating system, not suspended by VMware Fusion.

In my case, I made a folder named temporarily: dotssh

In my Virtual Machine under sharing settings I added a folder by selecting the dotssh file and then closed VMware Fusion and then deleted the folder ~/dotssh .

Then I edited the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file.

When I added the dotssh shared folder it added several lines of parameters to the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file, and two in particular that I edited then manually.

    sharedFolder0.hostPath = "~/dotssh"
    sharedFolder0.guestName = "dotssh"

    I then changed to:

    sharedFolder0.hostPath = "~/.ssh"
    sharedFolder0.guestName = ".ssh"

Next I opened VMware Fusion and started Virtual Machine and once at the level of the Windows desktop, I double-clicked the shortcut "VMware shared folders" and he opened the Windows Explorer "\\vmware-host\Shared records" and of course this folder appears empty as I had no other normal folders shared nor was the guest operating system configured to display hidden however folders add "\.ssh" to the "\\vmware-host\Shared records" in the address bar has allowed me to see the content of the .ssh my Home on Mac folder.

Then I made a new desktop shortcut pointing to "\\vmware-host\Shared.ssh" to use instead of the shortcut to "VMware Shared Folders" by default, but I could also see hidden folders of the guest operating system and then would the .ssh folder without having to type in the address bar or create a new shortcut It's your choice.

  • Upgrade to VMware-Fusion - 2.0.4 Miss / Don ' t Bother downloading

I just downloaded "VMware-Fusion - 2.0.4 - 159196 - light .dmg" and tried to update from version 2.0.2.  Installation crashes immediately and is unable to make further progress.  View installation journal suggests that the Setup program is unable to unload the previous kernel extensions after what the installation stops.  Below you will find my attached log file.  I tried twice and each time produces the same result.  The second time was after a clean reboot, and the first thing I did was to try to install vmware.  Also, I guess it's the same for the light version (the version without anti-virus indigestion).  Since this is the second upgrade of vmware fusion in ten days, I guess that there was a problem with 2.0.3?  No change log has been validated for 2.0.4, so there is no way of knowing what he's trying to hard.  Maybe it is necessary to upgrade to 2.0.3 before upgrade to 2.0.4, however, this has not been the case in earlier versions of vmware fusion.  Since I'm upgrading directly from 2.0.2, maybe someone else can tell us in the comments if upgrading from 2.0.3 works.  My suggestion is to wait until 2.0.5 before the upgrade because 2.0.4 seems dead on arrival.

So I suggest to uninstall Fusion 2.0.2 or what version you have installed, restart and install Fusion 2.0.4 Alternatively, remove the "/ Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vmware.launchd.vmware.plist" file and restart then Fusion kernel Extensions and the VMware virtual network will not be loaded and then try to install however I would just uninstall, reboot and install and do with it , because it is simply not a big deal and takes a few minutes.

  • VMware Fusion 7 and VMware Tools - leak memory in Debian comments

At some point during my updates from Mac OS X to Yosemite, VMware Fusion to 7.x and my Debian a guest to 8.0 "Jessie" on my 2012 Mackbook Pro, leaking memory of the Linux kernel is developed.  If I follow these steps, then I'd lose soon about 3 GB memory of the core area.

    1. Install Debian Jessie in a new machine virtual de VMware Fusion
    2. Install open-vm-tools or VMware Tools bundled.
    3. Perform an intensive IO as operation simply cat/dev/zero |-c 1000000000 head >/tmp/test.txt.
    4. Smem - wtk and see ~ 3 GB memory under the dynamics of the kernel memory, benefit.

I opened the 15709682007 assistance request and the representative said that they will fix the problem in a future release. In the meantime, I have what seems to be a workaround for someone else that is affected.  Basically, pulling packages from backports jessie seems to have solved the problem.  This is based on the comments added to open-vm-tools.

    1. Add the Debian repository -backports jessie in /etc/apt/sources.list
    2. sudo apt - get update; sudo apt - get install t Jessie-backports open-vm-tools-dkms open-vm-Tools-Office
    3. sudo apt - get - t jessie-backports dist-upgrade (install kernel 4.1)
    4. Restart comments

    A few quick thoughts:

    1. If you have several virtual machines (or other programs) running on your computer host and VMware Fusion detects that there is memory pressure on your host computer, it uses the "balloon" (vmw_balloon for the latest distributions of Linux) Guest pilot to fly some memory of the guest OS.  This memory "stolen" would appear as memory Dynamics non-cache kernel inside the guest.  Running "sudo rmmod vmw_balloon" should release all memory climbed to the guest OS.  Note that using the balloon driver generally improves the performance of the guest and host, despite the appearance of fear "used memory" inside the guest-"used memory" is just a thing of accounting that we had to use in order to change the priority of the memory between the host and the guest.  It is not "used" in the conventional sense of the term.

    2. I believe that recent versions of virtual hardware non-cache dynamic kernel allocate the necessary memory for SVGA and 3D features (display RAM, texture RAM, etc.).  Disable graphic 3D acceleration or by reducing the amount of graphics shared memory if you are using a new version of virtual hardware (both in the VM > settings... > display) might help.  Decommissioning of a virtual equipment as early (in the VM > settings... > compatibility) can also help.

    See you soon,.

  • VMware Fusion 7 - OSx 10.9 comments iTunes hangs at each time after installing vmware tools

    Hello community,

I'm having a problem with vmware tools.  Yesterday, I did the upgrade of Fusion 6 to 7 Pro.

I have installed Mavericks like virtual machine.  My system (iMac Late2013) has installed Mavericks.

With vmware tools iTunes crash whenever it is launched.

Without vmware tools iTunes works well... but the yield is very low (I can't use shared folders, etc.)

Before upgrading vmware fusion 7, I had fusion 6 and everything works fine (I mean iTunes with vmware tools)

I use this machine with audio application and it is important for me to use iTunes inside the virtual machine.

Is there the 'tricks' to solve this problem?

    Thank you

It's finally a bug in iTunes that Apple should correct (so please click on "Send to Apple" in this window), but it is important to use to find out what triggers it.

I suspect a significant change, we did for the graphics drivers of comments (within the VMware Tools for OS X) between Fusion 6 and 7 of the merger. To test this theory, please try the following experiences in your VM Mavericks:

    o experience 1

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo nvram boot-args = 'vmw_gfx_caps = 0'

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear? If no, continue to experiment 2

    o experience 2

In Terminal.app, run the following command:

    sudo rm - rf {/System,}/Library/Extensions/VMwareGfx.kext

Then restart the client Mavericks. Does make the problem disappear?

  • VMware fusion 6 - Mavericks comment issue

When trying to install the Mavericks as a guest in VMware fusion 6, I get a message "VMware Fusion is to create an install image bootable for installing Mac OS X continues." when the drag and drop my Mavericks Mac download in VMware Fusion. Should I answer to save disc Image (in VMware Fusion)?

    Thank you.

You have two choices, you can click on cancel or Save the Image disc... and the choice is your doing!

BTW, at the present time, the Mavericks Installer.tool create which is a part of VMware Fusion 6 does not create a good disk Image install and they know and are working on a fix for it.  One of the questions is the Recovery HD is not created.  While I have not tried using FileVault in a Virtual Machine OS X 10.9 I think it's too broken as a result of incorrect setup created.

  • VMWare Fusion for Mac - how much space HARD drive is my virtual machine taking?

So, I am running VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Air, and I'm under low HARD disk space.  My Mac storage utility tells me that I have a ton of capacity used in the 'Other' bucket.  According to me, this bucket is where live VMWare Fusion.  As I understand it, technically, my complete operating system of Windows (including all files) is contained in a single file on the Mac side.  Is this correct?  Is it possible to see what capacity takes up my whole Windows Operating System (Virtual Machine)?  I hope this makes sense.  Thanks in advance for your comments!

ChillOne wrote: as I understand it, technically, my complete operating system of Windows (including all files) is contained in a single file on the Mac side.  Is this correct?

No, it's not correct!  A Virtual Machine is composed of many files and folders according to how it configured and used.  On a Mac if created natively by VMware Fusion using values by default so all the files that make up a virtual machine are in all of the Virtual Machine that is structurally nothing more then a regular folder except the extension .vmwarevm, it is treated differently by the launch in OS X Services.  Take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages

The files that make up the Virtual Machines from Windows/Linux systems and other places my being in simple ordinary folders.

Is it possible to see what capacity takes up my whole Windows Operating System (Virtual Machine)?

You can also see statistics for a given Virtual Machine by selecting Virtual Machine in the library because it displays size information, as well as on the General form of a virtual machine; s parameters.  Or look in the Finder and see the release of Get Info for the packaging of the Virtual Machine or the folder that contains the files that make up the Virtual Machine.

  • best way to get XP for vmware fusion

I have vmware fusion 3.1.3 on macbook pro. I currently have a virtual machine, I installed win 2K Server. too old, too big. I need to get xp and do an installation. I tried to make a snapshot of the existing machine, but seemed to make mistake on the OEM version and wants me register and pay as the new. I have a win 7 pro machine, I guess I could try to make instant, but I was wondering if v3.1.3 will even run that? So, what is the best way to way (see below) to get a XP installation for my installation of vmware fusion run? Fiscally constrained, won't be upgrading to fusion or pay retail for XP anytime soon.

It will be VERY difficult to get copies of legitimate retail XP more.  Most of the things on eBay is also OEM, which is not available for use of the VM.

Do not forget that you must purchase a license of said too (the version on the existing machine is probably an OEM version too).

Why not just buy Win7 on amazon or costco?

The only other option is a sort of MSDN license, but these licenses cannot be used for production purposes.

  • Cannot be updated for the new VMWare Fusion - connection to the update server

    Hello

My apologies if I seem ignorant and things must be explained clearly to me, but I am a Mac user on a Macbook Pro for the first time. Have installed Vmware Fusion, and am also running Windows XP. Whenever I have try and upgrade to the latest version of VMware fusion, I get an error saying "connection to the update server has been lost. How to fix this problem please? Subsequently I can't write any DVD on my Mac. Very frustrating.

Please could someone help and advise what I can do?

    Thanking you!

Suggest that you download the full version of VMware Fusion and then uninstall/reinstall it from the .dmg image file that you download.
