Extend the ROW when the disk is in virtual compatibility mode.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for any help that you need to make.

I am trying to extend a volume. The volume is a RDM. It is configured in virtual Compatibility Mode.

I am able to extend the Lun on the SAN. When I do a new analysis in Virtual Center I see large volume. But when I go into Windows OS disk manager and rescan the disks I don't see extended volumes.

I tried using the physical compatibility mode and it works.

How can I go on the extension of this volume? Is it possible to do while the server is?

Jeff

There is no way I know to extend the RDM virt without virtual machine being down for a certain period of time.

The advantage of virtual compatibility mode is tha ROW can participate in snapshots and behaves more like a vmdk. There are advantages and disadvantages of each type. See

    One of the use cases may be to use clusters in a box (host).

    Thanks to you all! This problem has been SOLVED as follows...

    • VCenter Server go to--> "C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps\VSAManager\WEB-INF\classes".
    • Open the file "dev.properties" with Notepad
    • Change the line that says "evc.config.baseline = lowest" to 'highest = evc.config.baseline' and save the file.
    • Perform the SERVICES. MSC and reboot 'VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices'

    After that it of back in the VSA Manager and run it again 'Cluster of VSA recover'!

    Now, the wizard should be able to add hosts to the inventory, create the HA Cluster and add hosts to the HA cluster and configure Cluster HA.

  • Cannot extend the disk in virtual machines on ESXi4.1

    Hi people,

    Sorry if its posted in the wrong forum. I am unable to extend the VM disk but its having enough space I added it drive. The problem here is one of the disks are having 2 C and D partition on the same drive / same vmdk. Therefore, it is possible to expand the D drive shows unallocated after adding the space. I know through Standalone VMware converter 5.0 we can resize. If any other option other than that. Any help on this will be appreciated. Please see the screenshot.

    Thank you

    Hello.

    I have met many of them, and Converter is the best way to address them. When c is first, you can copy other data readers to new VMDK, but Converter is often easier and faster than that.

    Good luck!

  • cannot resize the disk on a virtual machine

    Hello!

    I have a little problem, I can not resize the size of the disk on some of my virtual machines.

    I tried yesterday on two and worked well, tried to day (different vm) and it does not work so well for me.

    I first stop the virtual machine, rightklick, change the size to 20 GB, 4 GB and press OK.

    When I then rightklick on the virtual machine after pushing OK the size is always 4 GB (I don't mean in VI client for Windows).

    Why? workaround solution?

    Thnx for help.

  • vCD API - how to call updateDisks to resize the disks of a virtual machine?

    Had to think about where to post this question; vCD forums or here. I chose here because it's the API specific vCO for vCD and not versions of Java/.NET working team of vCD.

    I'm going to build a workflow to allow my team to change the size of a disk. This disk is part of a virtual machine that vCloud Director 'property '. I heard several times to not only change the size of the disk in vCenter as then vCD runs a risk of being confused. I have reviewed the vCO API for the vCD and found that the VclVM object contains the set of disks (VclVM.disks) as a property. This returns an array of VclVirtualDisk. There is a method VclVM.updateDisks (VclVirtualDisk []), which seems to do exactly what I want. Update disk sizes (could be used to add new facilities). I have a bit of a problem to find how to call it from my point of departure.

    // selectedDisk: a string selected by the user
    // selectedDiskSize: a number input by the user

    var disks = virtualMachine.disks;

    for (var i = 0; i < disks.length; i++)
    {

         if (selectedDisk == disks[i].itemResource.elementName.value)
         {
              if (selectedDiskSize <= disks[i].hardDiskSize)
              {
                   throw "New disk size (" + selectedDiskSize + ") must be larger than original disk size (" +
                        disks[i].hardDiskSize + ")";
              }

              disks[i].hardDiskSize = selectedDiskSize;
         }
    }

    virtualMachine.updateDisks(disks);

    'HardDiskSize' the call throws an error. It is a property read-only and is not a method. The API documentation don't do a good job to define all the methods where I can build a new VclVirtualDisk object. or clone an existing one.

    My thought was to update the existing structures of the disc and then pass them to the updateDisks (...) method. Yes, change an internal structure of an object from the outside is not something I should be doing.

    Any suggestions on how to "clone" this VclVirtualDisk object to change?

    If someone of the vCD of the vCO API team is looking, even updateDisks (...) method will do what I want? Or I have to watch fall down to Java to achieve?

    Thank you!

    If I remember correctly the ability to change the size of an existing drive is not available in API vCD 1.01.

    Christophe.

  • Cannot open the hard file. One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a snapshot

    Hi all

    Tried my level best to solve, but still the same problem persists. . Lck tried but as soon close VMware workstation, it disappears. This problem starts when yesterday instead of powering down, suspended. The next resume when it gives captioned error. Tried creating new virtual machine using an existing vmdk file but my mainly all the data disappeared. Now I want to resume the suspended state. Kindly help on the same. Thank you

    OK, we will first focus on the first virtual disk (System) on the D: drive which has enogh of disk space to create a clone.

    The "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk" dated from 19/07/13 is probably exactly what we need, and if it has approximately the same size of file than current/changing, then you can replace the one changed with it. Once restored, proceed as follows (with VMware Workstation closed):

    from the command line run:

    cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation"
    cd /d D:\win2k3
    md Clone
    C:vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk" -t 0 "Clone\Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

    Once the cloning done so, create a subfolder "Backup" and move all over existing files (as a backup). Copy the .vmx file and .vmxf the subdirectory "Backup" in the D:\win2k3 folder, then do the same with the file hard cloned since the 'Clone' subdirectory, so that you end up with the following files:

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmx

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmxf

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk

    Before you can try to start the virtual machine, you must edit the .vmx file and replace

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition - 000002.vmdk"

    with

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

    Please do the above and report. If you have any questions please ask.

  • Best way to extend the drive C on Virtual Center VM - ESX 3.5.0 213352

    I am trying to increase the C drive 10 GB to 15 GB on our VM virtual Center. Is this VM on an ESX 3.5.0 host 213352. I went to change the settings on the machine virtual and changed the drive C 10-> 15 GB vmdk. No problem. I then connected to the virtual computer and went Mgmt of Windows disk that shows the C drive in NTFS base 10 GB with a 4.99 GB unallocated volume space beside him. I then went to Diskpart and entered the command line and selected the C volume range. I received the following error message "the volume you have selected cannot be extended. BTW - the page file is located on drive E and not on the C drive. This virtual machine has C and E only.

    I used the VM converter in the past, but it will not work in this case because the VM I want to choose to expand the C drive is the virtual Center VM. Any ideas on why diskpart will not work? Other solutions? Thank you!

    You can also use extpart, allowing that you extend without interruption

  • Resize the size of the disk on a virtual machine

    Hi all

    I have a virtual machine with 200 GB, would reduce the size of the drive for 100 GB?

    OS: Linux CentOS

    VMWARE ESX4.0

    VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.3 can be used to resize Windows and Linux powered sources.

    Although CentOS is not officially supported as source for Converter 4.3, RHEL 2, 3, 4 and 5 are so you could work with CentOS as well. No promises though, as it has not been tested and officially not certified.

    See page 52 of the Converter 4.3 Admin Guide at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/convsa_43_guide.pdf for more information.

  • Burn the disk to a virtual machine?

    It seems that I cannot burn a disc of my virtual machine. I searched, and apparently you have to add the drive as a SCSI device. So I edited file (this file may be less organized!) machine's .vmx and changed all instances of ide0: 1 at scsi0: 1, but it seems to merge changed to IDE.

    So, how to configure a virtual machine to allow under 3.1 disc burning?

    Hello

    .. .and changed all instances of ide0: 1 to scsi0:1, but it seems to merge changed to IDE.

    Normally merge changes only return if you do not leave merge until you have changed the .vmx file.

    This meant that the file has been opened by Fusion during the time that you edited.

    Just as a note.

    Every time you handedit a .vmx file, make a backup before you change it, then you can go back if someone went wrong

    Hope this helps.

  • Move ROW with dynamic disk to another virtual machine

    Hello

    I'm in a situation where I have to leave my RDM Win2003 VM to win2008, but the complexity and multiple physical RDMs here make only dynamic partition (RDM1 1.5 TB, RDM2 1.5 TB, is drive G RDM3 1 TB 4 TB),

    Now my question is if I can move this partition of G (which includes 3 disks RDM) again an another VM (win2008)

    Thanks, SD

    Hello

    This does not resemble a specific question VMware.  On the contrary, seems like a question of Microsoft Windows.  Just make sure the hosts on which the virtual machine of 2008 runs can see the same ROW and follow this procedure to remove dynamic disks of the virtual machine of 2003 and add them to the virtual machine of 2008.

    Move disks to another computer

    All the best,

    Mike

    mkdir ./clone
    vmware-vdiskmanager -r "Windows 7 x64-000008.vmdk" -t 0 "Windows 7 x64.vmdk"

    Please, help me to solve the problem.

    Once again apologize for my English :)

    I really don't see what could be causing the problem, except that there are some .lck files in the subdirectory "lock"!

    Anyway, if worry ends snapshots and the current state is what you need, you can follow these steps (which are close to what you have already done) to merge snapshots of virtual disk in and use this virtual disk to the virtual machine:

    • Close VMware Workstation
    • Create a new subdirectory and move the VM files and folders to backup purposes
    • "" since this subdirectory run: vmware-vdiskmanager-r "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" t 1 '... / X64.vmdk of Windows 7 '
    • Copy the .vmx file to the parent directory and edit it as follows:
      scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" --> scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x64.vmdk"

    Now you should be able to start the virtual machine with the cloned virtual disk.

  • Flex SDK 4.1 + 'Use the Compatibility Mode 3 Flex' = PROBLEMS

    7.14.10 / 06:10

    HERE'S THE QUESTION:

    When using the Flex SDK 4.1 and by checking the box 'Use Flex 3 Compatibility Mode', the Visual anomalies occur (regardless if the styles or skins is used). These include text in list ComboBox becomes invisible. It goes the same for the alert box, where no text is seen.

    I am including a screenshot showing the questions. The top image shows what happens when compatibility is checked - the ComboBox list text is invisible. The lower picture combo shows what happens when the box is not checked.

    Please note that when you use the old Flex 4.0 SDK these visual anomalies are not and everything works fine.

    @Jason Villmer,

    In my view, the problem you describe is http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-26940.

    There is a workaround solution listed in the bug report that works (based on my tests), or you could probably put the leadership styles and layoutDirection worldwide using a block Style.
