  Open the Finder, then go to the Finder menu bar and click Finder > Preferences then select the general tab, then check that the external drives is enabled.

  Here it is the end of the year and one of my external hard drives (1 TB Iomega MacMini) decided to not mount on the desktop of my MBP 15 "

  I read a few posts on ways to remedy by making the Kext Utility application, reset the SMC, disk repair/first aid utility, using different cables/ports.

  I see that many people have problems with Windows 7 does not recognise external drives. I have a SimpleTech Pro 1 t external drive used to be recognized with Windows 7, but is no longer recognized.   My Hitachi hard drive is compatible with Windows 7.  This hard drive was working properly with my old computer using Windows XP.  I can see the device in the Device Manager, but I can't view the files.  In disk management, the drive is listed at the bottom of the screen, but said "No Media", however there is almost 50 GB of data stored.

  The hard drive shows in the list of devices and printers when I opened that folder, but does not appear in the list of hard drives on my computer.

  I still don't understand what happened, but I've decided how to fix it.

  After trying my hard drive locked on 4 computers with Windows installed (two with Windows 7) and two with XP and having no success, I decided to plug it into a computer using a Linyx OS (Obuntu).  The computer recognizes my hard drive and open.  Then I was able to use the Windows System.  I managed to freeze hard drive again and he cured the same way.  Maybe this will help also, if you have access to a computer with this operating system.  Maybe a mac would also work.

  I have a number of backups from HARD drive external.  With 2 of them, the usual information of 'loading' is not pop up.  When I go to "Computer" I can not find them.  When I approach using control devices Center I can find them but can not open them.  My all says device driver works.  I have no records, but at least there's nine. I have an acer e-machine with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
