  I understand that you have copied your files on an external drive from your old computer.

  You tried to copy the files to the new computer, but when you disconnect the external hard drive the files are no longer accessible.

  I think that you have created or copied a shortcut to the new computer and not the actual files.  When you're logged out outside the new computer had more disk access to open files.

  I would like to redo the copy and when you finished externally, log out and then try again.

The key is when you import photos into lightroom, to 'say' where are the pictures. When you start the import process on the right side of the screen to import you set the destination for the import.   The USB port on the HARD drive may have been damaged and may be causing the PC detect a short power.

  You can try another USB cable? If it is not the cable, then the HARD drive should be sent to a Service Center for repair or replacement.
