Family Safety time limit - less restrictive, less flexibility

Is it possible to bring back the time grid selection in parental controls?  With the previous method, I could let my children stay connected to do homework or play games (with me) until 1 or 02:00.  but with the new configuration from the drop-down list, to allow access from midnight to 01:00 and still allow normal hours (i.e. 07:00 - 21:00), access must be granted from midnight until 21:00.

Can bring back us the time grid selection?

  • Family Safety time limits must be checked through machines

I use RTM of Windows 8 on a desktop computer and a laptop. I have set up Family Safety on behalf of my son on both machines. It has a delay of 45 minutes per day. He has discovered that he can use 45 minutes on the desktop, then move it to the laptop and use another 45 minutes. I think it is a bug. I believe that the correct behavior is to the allocation of time to follow on all the computers to which it has access. Please correct.

How would that be able to follow through all the machines?  Do you give your son a Microsoft Account access?

There is no way to monitor a local account anywhere to separate machines.  You will need to monitor the activity and do not rely on Windows to do it for you to break your limit of 45 minutes.  It is not a bug when using local accounts.
A Microsoft Account might be able to be the subject of a follow-up, but again, it is not the use of Microsoft to track these things.  Especially on multiple computers.  They've already given you control over everything else, you should be able to know which machine it uses and how much time is left.  Split time between the 2 machines.  20 minutes on the desktop and 25 on the laptop.  Problem solved without blaming Microsoft for tracking everything that your son didn't.
  • Family Safety time limits is no longer log off user

    Hello

Now I used a while to FSS deadlines for on the same laptop. Recently (I guess that for an update), delays are no longer disconnect the user. You are unable to log on to the account during blocked times, however, once logged on you without getting more time per minute 15 "you will be logged out' warning and my son can continue to use the computer.

Until I get the stock answers: -.

    • It has a standard account and I have an administrator account on the laptop.
    • I uninstalled the filter and reinstalled the latest version
    • I refreshed the filter and box "your settings have been updated" appear
    • Time box is checked on the Web site
    • It is a Windows 7 PC with all the patches/updates applied and carefully scanned for virus/malware

Family safety is blocking sites and reports very well for this account, it's just time disconnect feature that does not work. I followed all the steps of other responses.

    Any other suggestions?

  • Windows 7 Family Safety - time not to close the session user.

    Hi guys,.

I've set up my son an 'ordinary' on his laptop computer account, and I have an account "admin".  I've implemented time limits, which are carried out in collaboration with Windows Live.

When the time comes, my son is NOT disconnected from its system.  If it disconnects, it cannot connect to (which is good), but if he uses the laptop at the end of the "admitted" time, he is permitted to continue.

I think he should get a 15 minute warning beforehand that he will be disconnected.

  • I want to disable the ability to go back and save your work before the expiration of time on the family safety settings

My daughter uses the option to go back and save your work before closing down as a way open to passing the family safety settings. When she is about to be disconnected because of the time limit, she knows that three programs open with live data on them (like playing content in YouTube, chatting and playing an internet game all at the same time) he will come to the top and he the opportunity to go back and close its data. It completely negates the purpose of the limits of time. Because it doesn't then go back to the top and stop her. It falls just the problem completely. I don't know that this is just a gap in the family of security software. But thought I would ask to see if this option can be disabled, or if there is a way around it.

If you find the Parental control in Windows help, he will guide you to articles online for the safety of these two parental controls & family.  There may be a solution in the event of children in one of these roads.

  • Restrictions does not not propely in Microsoft family safety

    Original title: Microsoft family safety

I would like to know if anyone else has problems with their security settings for the family microsoft for minors does not not accordingly.  He worked for a few months, then the sections of restriction has been changed.  You used to be able to assign access during specific hours and block the other hours, but now its only giving the ability to allow access from any given time.  This does not work either.  All parameters have been set, but the account is able to log on during all hours of the day and the time spent on the computer is not being connected either!  I need help please.  The only other option at this point which is proof of the failure is to completely deny access completely, but I don't think that's fair.  Someone, anyone, please give me some advice.

  • "Family Safety > settings user > user activities > time PC used" shows always "1 minute".

I have Windows 8, clean install, not an upgrade to Windows 7.

I have set up three accounts of child when I got the laptop.

As a first step, the "time limits" worked and accounts would be to warn children when they had spent some time.

Now, two of the three children never warns.  In addition, when I check their accounts, it shows always only '1 minute' for any day that they were connected.

I am using local accounts for each of them, not the "Family Safety site", since none of my kids have accounts of Microsoft.

Y at - it a patch to do this, please?

  • Family safety report says that a blocked Web site has been visited several times.

    OT: The family safety report.

On my report it says that a blocked site has been visited 120 times. How is this possible when it is blocked?

    Hello

Thanks for posting the request in Microsoft Community Forums.

Have you checked by accessing the site blocked in the child's account to see if it's blocked or not?

Safe family activity reports will include sites that are visited but blocked. Also, sites that was redirected from other sites, or use a feature of this site (such as the Facebook Like function and share) will add also upward to the activity report.

I suggest you to check by accessing the Web site of the child's account. Also, make sure that the child's account does not use proxy connections.

You can also update the family safety filter and check the results.

Sorry to hear that you are having the same problem. It is likely that parental control binary files has become corrupted. To resolve this issue, remove all content under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental controls

  • Family Safety errors

    Hello

I am the Director of technology, a Florida Charter School.  Because of the incredible price, that we received on the MS Surface RT, we decided to provide all our students with this amazing tablet.

    We are having a few issues regarding the security settings for the family;

We currently have approximately 600 students enrolled with Surfaces, because it is a school and children like to do their minds wonder that should be obviously used Family Safety to make sure bad material were not available.  Until a few days ago, we had blocked manually a few pages we don't want students, because they found ways around it that we decided to change the web filter "Designed for children" as a last resort. We currently have about 8 Microsoft accounts that we use to manage all of the tablets (at the time you are only allowed to handle up to 80 aircraft by family safety account. Here is the problem we have:

There are about 15 sites total I need to allow students to access, when I allow these sites, they work very well, but I have to painstakingly block each tablet one at a time, as you can imagine change the filter on this laptop takes forever, especially since I need to connect to multiple accounts.  I understand that 'Parental control' has a feature that allows you to block/allow Web sites entered for "all children".  The question is, when I click allow/block I am presented with a message asking, "do you want to block or allow this site to all children? I click 'Yes, all children', but it does not work.  I get no error message and it seems that everything is fine, but the site is still blocked/unblocked.

We currently have approximately 80 devices per account.  I don't know if this will help, but I noticed that when I click on "Members of the family Link" at the top of the page, we get the following error: "the page you requested does not exist, has moved or is temporarily unavailable." We received this error for about 4 months now, however, we noted that a 2 of our accounts where we have less than 60 devices listed do not come up with this error.  I guess the problem is the amount of devices, we have per account.  If this is in fact the question I'm a little confused, as the amount of devices by Family Safety account is much more than what we have per account.

If I'm doing something wrong or if my information is incorrect please let me know, thank all help in advance.

    Thank you for your time,

    Mike

    Hello

    1. Surface devices are connected to the field?
    2. You can still access Hotmail or other Microsoft services?
    3. What browser do you use? The problem occurs when you use a different browser?
    4. What is the security status of the http://status.live.comfamily?

In the case you use Internet Explorer to reset the Internet Explorer settings on the computer with which you are trying to log in to the family safety website.

    Note:

Reset the Internet Explorer settings can reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings. Reset Internet Explorer is not reversible, and all the previous settings are lost after reset.

We know the State of the question.

  • The family safety web filtering does not work after upgrade to Windows 8

Hello, I upgraded a laptop for Windows Vista 8 and family safety works more fully.

I have updated to the 2012 essentials and I can confirm that parental control is executed. App and time restrictions still work fine, but the filtering of the web site does not work.

I have web filtering set to allow list only, with 3 sites listed - google, Wikipedia and BBC - but I can access all of the web content.

I also tried to delete the files in ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/Parental Controls such as suggested in other posts, but it did not work.

I can also confirm that WpcMon.exe is running.

Can you advise what could be the problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

Thank you for coming back. Please note that the parental control is now integrated in Windows 8. The use of the parental control client that is included in Windows Essentials might not work properly. As before, you upgrade using Windows Vista, you can follow the steps described in this article (click on parental controls) to move properly the configuration of the client of parental control for the parental controls feature integrated in Windows 8.

Note: Article also applies to Windows Vista.

Please report if you need help.

    Kind regards.

  • Family safety account - stuck managed

In 2003-2004 my Microsoft account was handled through a first version of family safety product.  Some time later, the account was promoted to an adult account and is no longer managed by family safety products.  However, it seems to be a persistant problem with my account.  For example, I can't create a group on SkyDrive and get the error message "Windows Live Groups does not support family safety Managed Accounts.".  I am also unable to use options in SkyDrive to share files "share link".  I am also unable to see the options 'Invisible' or 'Available' when I click on my name at the top right of outlook.com.  Also, I don't see the little mail icon that appears directly on the left of the setting icon.

Here's what I linked to do to solve the problem:

    (1) I have tried other browsers and clear all caches

    (2) that I created a new account to confirm, it was isolated to my account, it is.

    (3) I installed the family safety and has visited the family safety Web site - I see no evidence that my account is managed through family safety.

I really don't want to switch to a different account of Microsoft because it is related to my xbox live gold account family (where I am the main account) and several other Microsoft services.

Anyway is not valid restrictions on my account?

    Hello

I have provided a new private message for updates to your subject. Please check the private message by connecting to your account here.

  • Family safety control turns off the PC?

I installed the family security check on a PC with Windows 7. Parental control turns off the PC whene the time I have instald (while my son can use the PC) has reached?

    Best regards

    Hi Peter,.

Currently, we don't have the option in Family Safety to shut down the computer when the time limit is reached, what we have is to disconnect the user when the deadline has been reached. Even if your child is using the computer, all activities that are conducted will be stopped when your child has been disconnected. For more information about this, please read the article in this link: how Time allocation and work of curfew?

This feature is a great idea and would be a nice feature to have, please submit it as a request to feature by going to the page http://feedback.live.com/ and then select "Windows Live Family Safety".

    Kind regards

  • Windows Live Family Safety 2011 contacts management

I decided to use Windows Live Family Safety 2011 given documents that there the management of contacts for the e-mail accounts in the child.

I watched videos on the web and read documents on how to put in place, but when I log on the Family Safety website I introduced to all categories of web filtering, lists of filtering web, followed by activity, deadlines, restrictions of game, etc but no contact management.

There, anyone know if it is still available under parental controls, and if so, how do activate you it?

My guess is that since not enough people used Microsoft removed as an option or moved to pay for a product.

    Any help is appreciated...

    Hi RLD_WI,

Family safety has made recent changes to its functions and functionlity. The latest version of the parental control now uses the standard user accounts (logon Windows) as a child in the safety of the family. To learn more about the changes in the management of Contact, please see the link below:

Where is the function of the safety Contact family management?

If you need to know about adding a user to the Windows login with standard privileges, please see this link.

If you have already created a standard user and you want to manage under parental control, then follow these steps:

    1. run the parental control on a Windows account with administrator privileges. If this is your first time running the parental control, you need to sign in using your Microsoft Account.

    2. after login, select the standard Windows account that you want to monitor as a child by checking the box to the right of the name of the account, and then click Next after.

3 on the right, you will see members parental control with a list of drop down option. Click the menu drop-down, and then select Add standard account name.

    4. click on record. Wait until the installation is done.

    5. Once done, you should see the name of the account under Windows monitored accounts.

For more information on parental controls, please click here.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.
