Fast VP + Vmware

Hello

I am new here and I m new for all the this thing VM, san, storage, etc etc... and I had a few questions about VMware and QUICK of VP.

As far as I know I need to move a machine virtual to a logic unit on the pool of FAST VP number, FAST VP will be what?

Will a 'slice' (a block so well do things) virtual machine having more workload and will put it in a SSD drive for best performance for this virtual machine? And then what?

Also, I did a little investigation about this, but I got more confused, is it necessary to measure IOPS of the virtual machines that are intended to be moved to FAST VP luns, right?

Since I was hardly new to this kind of things together VMware and since I am still trying to understand many concepts of the virtual machine documentation and EMC documentation... Here's another of my newbie question... What is the difference between FAST VP and to define 'actions' on the VM options? Or, what is the difference with DRS storage... Beat me if you want but I m learning this from scratch and it's very confusing!

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards!

Then nothing... the YOUNG will take care of the rest.

Exactly - wil hot blocks upward to drive faster, and cold moves down on the slower drive automatically (how long it takes depends on model table and the configuration).

Also, I did a little investigation about this, but I got more confused, is it necessary to measure IOPS of the virtual machines that are intended to be moved to FAST VP luns, right?

It is useful for you to understand correctly the number of virtual machines / how well pool can take charge, but its not required, in itself the workload.

Since I was hardly new to this kind of things together VMware and since I am still trying to understand many concepts of the virtual machine documentation and EMC documentation... Here's another of my newbie question... What is the difference between FAST VP and to define 'actions' on the VM options?

FAST VP moves blocks on the storage array.  Actions at the level of VMware is trying to deal with contention in some most important virtual machines.  Its OK to use both at the same time.

Or, what is the difference with DRS storage... Beat me if you want but I m learning this from scratch and it's very confusing!

Storage DRS must be on 'Initial placement Mode' only when using FAST of VP.  DTS can move virtual machines between data warehouses for better performance, but it can move all SMV, while YOUNG can do with much better granularity (1 GB slices).

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you are using VNX (and), all of these practices are in thechbook here:

Also, talk to your dealer and ask them to get into the gory details on this in your local EMC vSpecialist/SDspecialist.

  • Running Win7/64, WinXP Pro/32 and Ubuntu 9/64 in VMWare

I have a scanner Canon Canoscan 3200f requiring drivers for it to run. Win7/64 will not work with 32-bit drivers and when I tried to use the Microsoft Virtual PC and XP mode, it still leaves not the drivers install. What I've read, Canon, Epson and HP not fix ALL the 32-bit drivers on 64-bit (and how long it has been since XP Pro/64 came out?).

My PC is based on a mobo Gigabyte running an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 5400 + Black Edition CPU and 4 GB of RAM.

VMWare will allow material that requires and has only 32-bit drivers to install and operate? I want to run Win7 Pro, XP Pro and Ubuntu 9, the last so I can try to support my daughter recently built PC Ubuntu. Right now I'm trying to decide between VMWare Server, Virtual Box and 3 partitions on a 500 GB SATA drive.

    Thank you.

Since the host operating system that is running Server 2.x has no need for drivers, you should be able to have a 64-bit OS host (note that no office of operating systems are officially supported as guest operating systems and he attended problems reported with guests from Vista x 64 stuck at 95% at the start and it was not a version 2.x Server since Win7 is around) and then a 32 bits comments which, as long as it has a USB inside virtual adapter, should access the device to USB host ok. I use the word "should", because not all USB devices work - those who fail are usually those whose data rates are too fast for VMware to manage. Worth a search around to see if there are any reports of good or bad for specific devices.

    Good luck!

  • impact on the performance of the vmware tools

We had discussions about the performance impact of the installation on a virtual machine vmware tools.

Are their any comparison between a system running vanilla versus a running vmware tools installed?

Obviously, I think that the system will go faster with vmware drivers installed.

Tools will only help IO performance (not counting usually do things like graphics and synchronization times work better).  If your virtual machine has no important networking or storage needs, then you probably don't need the tools.  I'm usually not worth.

If you want very good performance network without tools, make sure you use a device virtual e1000.  You can define ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".  This is not quite as good as real vmxnet (or new vmxnet3) but is much better than the default vlance. If you regularly push 1Gbit or more real traffic to your virtual machines, I would consider it.

Paravirtualized SCSI is fairly new, but since I have seen that there is a performance gain enough points of reference.  But even once, most likely you need not, unless you use a disc very heavy VM I/O, such as an Oracle database server.

If you consolidate underutilized physical machines who never use 100% CPU/network/disk, then Tools are probably a waste of time.  But if you want as close as possible to performance native and CPU utilization during intensive i/o, then Tools are worth.

As for Redhat don't support our drivers for VMware tools, I don't see why this would practically be a problem-if you have any question/crash that you think may be related to our tools, you can always uninstall and go back to where you were before.  If you have an unrelated question, and you are worried Redhat refused to help with tools, you can do the same thing.  So what's the harm in trying them?

  • Some clarification on the prioritization of the Compellent storage

We is the migration of our shared since an old attached FC SAN to an iSCSI based compellent vSphere storage.  I had built a few LUNS to test, and now I want to start fast vMotioning VMware more guests to the existing LUN compellent.  When I made my first move, I had requested a profile of storage of low priority (level 3) to the LUN and then replaced by the storage profile recommended after that vMotion operation was complete.  Now I want to vMotion more VMs in the lun Compellent existing comments without the risk of saturating my SSD.  If I select Select the option 'Import data to the lowest tier of storage' in the advanced properties of the volume Compellent in System Manager, then invites him to the volume/LUN vMotion, writing will be limited to level 3?  Or is the 'import data at the lowest storage layer"only really applicable to import operations by an external device that is configured in the System Manager?

This is my first Compellent installation so I'm learning the environment of the earth upward.

If you activate the checkbox "Import data at the level low", all the data will be ingested at the lowest level possible. So if you have levels 1, 2 and 3 and RAID 10, and RAID 5 on each layer, your new information will be ingested to Tier 3 RAID 5. Once you clear the option, new data will be ingested at your highest level (Tier 1 RAID 10 if it is not full). And if you have the opportunity to fast track under license, then he's going to RAID 10 fast first, then Standard RAID 10.

Before you change the type of the startup disk controller, Windows should load the drivers for this controller. The best way to achieve this is to temporarily attach a small virtual drive (100 MB will do) with the controller for the virtual machine. When Windows starts, it must acknowledge the new controller and load the drivers. Then shut down the virtual computer, remove the temporary disk and change the type of the startup disk controller.

  • Reconfigure for VMware HA - fast!

    Hi friends

Might be a dumb question but useful to SNA.

I had 4 servers in the cluster.

Q-1: I had to reboot all the servers one by one for some reason and I did this successfully, all virtual machines to the normal works very well. My question is: I have to click with the right button on each host and 'Reconfigure for Vmware HA'?

Q-2: in what circumstances must be "Re-set for Vmware HA.

    Thank you

A-1 No if all guests cam back up fine without error HA no, there is no need to reconfigure HA

A-2, you will need to reconfigure HA when there's an or with the agent that runs on the host computer and, generally, the error message will tell you to reconfigure the HA -.

  • Can how fast I get a virtual network adapter on a computer server VMware vmware tools installed w/o?

    Hello

I use a custom Linux VM on a Linux VMware Server host. That my Linux VM is on measurement, I don't want to install VMware tools on my virtual machine. My question is without VMware tools installed on my virtual machine, is it possible for my virtual machine to connect at gigabit speeds. My server host has a gigabit network connection.

    Thank you

    Varun

without vmware-tools, make sure you that you use the E1000 nic in the comments and not the obsolete AMD

Check with the vmx file and make sure that you have

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

  • How hibernation so fast compared to copy speeds?

OK, this is probably a useless, stupid question, but I'm really curious about it.

I just accidentally put my computer in hibernation instead of the sleep mode, while I went to take my temperature to see if I still have a fever.

My computer is running Windows XP and has 1 GB of RAM. Yet, it took less than a minute for the computer go into hibernation mode. It took more time to copy a 600-some MB of drivers and the installation on a USB 2.0 files on the hard disk drive.

Of course, I only have Firefox open right now with a couple of tabs, but I thought copied hibernation memory of the computer on the drive before turning off. He limited things for only the allocated RAM? Even if the Task Manager still shows that it uses about 500 MB
    (1038440 total, available ~ 553000)

I'm just curious to know how work of hibernation so fast compared to copy speeds. Especially since it's faster that is Virtual PC or VMWare Player records the characteristics of the State on a superior computer (fastest SATA, faster processor, more than 2 cores, faster, faster bus RAM) when you save a virtual machine 256 MB.

  • VMWare Server

Anyone has been able, or at least tried to get this working on VMWare Server? I know that the instructions are for VMWare Player but it's the same platform just with different UX and method of operation.

It has installed but all I get is slightly updated the slider that appears.

Generally, the initial start-up takes more time, subsequent reboots are faster. Have you tried to restart the virtual machine?

  • Take snapshots of VMware preferred Cisco Infrastructure

    Hello community,

We have several Cisco first 2.x and 3.x facilities in the area. All are virtual machines on ESX servers. Before the operations of the crtitcal system (as updates, etc.) I used to take a snapshot of VMware. So far, I never had to use a snapshot to revert to the previous state of the system, but I was always sure to have a snapshot, just in case something goes wrong.

Now a customer recently asked me if the database would not get damaged if I just take a snapshot of the currently running system. I was courious and tried to look this up, but could not find clear instructions for this. The question that bothers me is: what should I stop NCS before taking a shot or not? Does anyone know what Cisco recommends (kind of best practices) for making snaphsot of VMware?

    Best regards

    Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin,

Please see the release below notes... Snapshots are supported but recommended to take during their stop. I made quite a few installations and upgrades, and always take snapshots while the virtual machine is turned off, is faster and safer on big high transaction VMs.

  • Can't stand of Vmware vMotion as 100 Mbps switch?

I created Lab at home wanted to connect several ESXi host through Physics 100 Mbps switch. So wanted to know my entire lab will work on Physics 100 MBPS switch, as DRS, vMotion, HA. Or I have to buy 1000 MBPS switch?

Although 100 Mbps may work in a laboratory environment, remember that 250 MBit/s is the minimum requirement for vMotion (see https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2059921). If your host supports 1 GBit, you should really consider buying a faster switch. It will make even a low-cost, unmanaged switch.

OK, we have a solution in queue for the next version of patch to fix this problem.

It turns out that the newer versions of Windows 10 will sometimes assign S.M.A.R.T. orders to SATA devices even when the device reports that it doesn't support s.m.a.r.t. and the unexpected controls are confused our SATA emulation and leading to the error you see.
