Fault on my Macbook Pro in Nigeria

I have a macbook pro that I bought 2 years back and all of a sudden the laptop won't boot any more although when the load is connected the charger shows green color.

I work in nigeria and made visit to the store in Mall i city of ikeja told that I have to send the phone to the service center located in the State of dolphin, ikoyi.

I sent the laptop to the service center but was asked to pay a fee of about $ 50 (20 000 naira) American so that they can diagnose the failure on the laptop and then let me know what the fault is and how much it would cost to fix it.

What is the normal procedure?

Waiting for your answer? Anyone have a similar problem before?

Kind regards

Charlie

It is not unusual for a non-Apple store to charge a diagnostic fee.

  • MacBook Pro - fault of HDD - what are my options?

    Hello

A week (or more) ago, I started to have problems with my MacBook Pro. As a first step, it would occur only when I start Skype, I live extreme 'delay', where nearly every program would stop responding until I have closed Skype (or so I thought). He started to get worse, and eventually I uninstalled Skype (assuming that it was the issue). I kept having problems, so I just tried a hard reset (turning point by using the power button and turn it back on).

At this point, I managed to connect and the loading bar would come, but it will break about 3/4 of the way. Stop, I mean it would stop completely, and I would wait about 15-20 minutes to see if she would continue and he wouldn't. So, I started looking for ways to solve this problem and tried to use recovery tools.

In disk utility, I had noticed that the HARD drive was completely full, all 500 GB have been exhausted. Which did not seem good at all for me, so I gritted my teeth and thought I might as well just delete because a lot of what used to take the system was old school work and projects. I went to clear the contents of the Macintosh HD, which seemed to be successful. After that, I knew I had to reinstall the OS, so I did.

Call me now, looking forward, but I was very sick in the beginning. I reinstalled the operating system in the past and had no problem before. He's fine this time, make the usual breaks in ETA ranging from 1 hour and 22 minutes to 2 hours and 11 minutes, which seemed normal to me. Then at some point, after an hour of waiting, he just stopped at "3 hours and 30 minutes". I waited about 30 minutes to see if it would continue and it would not be fair. I can remember in the past be able to stop the installation and continue it later, so I tried to do. I cancelled it and tried again, but this time my Macintosh HD drive not appear. For the most part, my boot drive just disappeared.

So, I did a hard reset, and now my MBP goes to a gray screen with a flashing folder with a '? ' in this regard. I am only able to load the recovery of Internet Options, but I am unable to do anything with "500,11 GB APPLE HARD drive". I can't verify, repair, erase, partition or format at all. I tried a lot of things without success.

So, I called Apple, and they planned a genius bar reservation which I am very upset from the Apple Store closest to me is in another State. (I could find one that I felt was easier to make, but I still won't go).

I talked to one of my friends on the issue, it is a networking / IT Major (I'm a big CS, but I don't know a lot about hardware issues). I described what happened, and he said it seems that the symptoms of hardware failure. He suggested I get an SSD and replace the HARD drive.

I'm not worried about installing the SSD or a new HARD drive, I am worried if this is still the issue, plus I'm worried about the next step after installing the SSD. How do I get the OS on the SSD drive?

Now, I'm looking just for any possible suggestion. I'll take tomorrow anyway at the Apple Store for my appointment, but it's just to be able to diagnose the problem and see how much they will be responsible to fix? My friend is not an expert in Apple products, so I ask those of you who knows more about the subject to enlighten me please if you agree it is a failed HDD delivers and if I have to buy an SSD and if so, how will come back Mac OSX on the computer?

    MacBook Pro-mi 2012 - 13.3 "display

    Memory - 2.5 GHz - 4 GB DDR3 memory

Last latest version of OS X El Capitan - (it seems to work Mavericks in the recovery of the Internet)

(If you have the Apple store do it for you, they just installed inside origin.) Here again, they have all the Organization to fall back on Apple, and they have done this so many times, they can do it in their sleep.)

How you replace a hard disk without pain, is buy an external enclosure for the new drive at the same time. You can choose a regular training of laptop computer size (2.5 inch) Rotary or a SSD in a portable format. SSD is more money, but faster and more fresh and not its no engine, it consumes less energy.

Then install Mac OS X on the new drive while it is in the enclosure, then start the drive in the enclosure. The speaker has no need to be fast or fancy.

Once you have everything as you like, and then do the "surgery" to move the new disk inside.

This makes the installation easier, because you can get the old HD to recovery to help you install the new Mac OS X and even give some time to play with the old drive if you wish.

The biggest improvement in this scheme is that it separates any problem installing and functioning of the new order of any problem of 'surgery' and makes it less complicated because you are only one step at a time.

    --------

At the end of the process, you have an additional speaker. Then buy another, bigger drive to put it in and start using Time Machine, so you don't waste your stuff even once.

  • "Repair of battery" after 200 cicles (macbook Pro 2011)

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro from mid-2011 and after around 200 cicles, he says "service battery", but the battery works perfectly well, of course it takes only 2 hours or less because it is already 5 years (and we all know that it is a complete lie that the batteries takes 8 hours - I don't guess if you turn away and look at him without touching a single key).

In any case... I formatted the computer and reinstalled the OSX and the sign disappeared. But after a few days, it reappeared. I tried to restart the MSC, but nothing has changed.

I read on some pages, that after a few OSX update, many macbook Pro from this year had the same problem, so that you would to buy a new battery, even when there is nothing wrong with it.

    Any suggestions?

There is probably something wrong with it, otherwise the system would not report it. Two hours is remarkably short for a good work of this model battery. And besides: battery fault may start to swell and cause serious damage to your Macbook. I don't think not twice before replacing a battery of 5 years.

You have the MacBookPro6, 2 - the Edsel of Mac. There may be the failure of logic-board that was covered by a recall program that is now complete.

The model was abandoned in February 2011. It is now classified by Apple as a "vintage product." This means that Apple will probably refuse to fix (see exceptions on the linked page.) In this case, you will need to go to an independent service provider. The part can be is no longer available, or the repair may not be profitable.

Often, the problems start after an upgrade of the OS. If the upgrade has been recently, and you have backups, you can then go back to a previous version of OS X.

Otherwise, an appointment of 'Genius' in an Apple Store, or switch to a different service provider authorized, to have the tested machine. The trial will be free to an Apple Store - unless Apple refuses to even look at the unit, as it could. Diagnoses of current equipment used by service providers don't detect the fault. There is a specific test for this number called "VST" (for "video system Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the defect is present.

If you decide to go to an independent service provider, be aware that the replacement part may also be faulty. Some owners reported that they went up to three replacement boards before you get one that worked. Don't expect any help from Apple if you have to pay several hundred dollars for an another bad logic board and that the supplier will be replace again.

If you don't want to take that risk, or if you don't like the price you quoted, you may (or may not) be able to work around the problem by disabling automatic switching graphics. To use the separate graphics processor, you will need a third-party utility to manually switch to him.

  • MacBook Pro 15 "retina early 2013 fair freezing and restarting

    Hello

For some time my Macbook was freezing then after about 5 seconds will start. These accidents are more frequent. A message appears when you restart advising a problem has been encountered and had to reboot the machine. Always receive a panic (which the most recent is copied below).

First I thought maybe that's a problem with the graphics card because this model is an extended warranty (https://www.apple.com/uk/support/macbookpro-videoissues/) and went to Apple genius bar to have tested, in, that happened. Without other hardware faults were detected. Apple had the machine for several days and did not say that it crashed a few times during the tests. They said it would indicate a hardware fault with the logic board but could not guarantee that this has been the cause of the fault or if it has been replaced would solve the problem.

They suggested a clean installation of the operating system that they preformed and said that they did not meet other accidents during the test after installation.

However, shortly after getting home and restore my last backup of the problem began to reproduce.

Any advice on what could be the cause of the problem would be appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro 13,3 "retina Logic Board failure?

I bought my MacBook Pro 13,3 "Retina display nine in early 2014 before going to College.  This is the most expensive item that I have ever owned I always made sure to take the greatest care in the use and handling.  About a week ago, I went to turn it on and a prohibitive symbol appeared on the screen (a white circle with a slash) and after that, it was completely cut off.  I took it to a (MicroCenter) renamed repair store and they said it was a failure of the logic board and would cost nearly $700 to fix.  Everyone knows this Council logical fault problem?

I am extremely disappointed by Apple because I thought of them as the cream of the cream with advanced technology "State-of-the-art".  I expect this device to last until the end of my academic career to a minimum and the fact that it's broken in less than two years is absolutely unacceptable. I did some googling and I saw a trial about the logic board failures in 15 '' MacBook Apple of 2011-13 and had published a complementary repair program.  I hope they do the same with my case.

Again, someone else has their logic board fail randomly?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Support communities

Sorry to hear that. I suggest you take a look at the forums of MacBook Pro to find cases similar to yours and check if there is a systemic problem or if you just had bad luck. Obviously it will not be a legal action if this problem is reduced to a few users, but there's a chance if this is stated as a failure of the design.

About your problem, it looks more like a problem of flash storage rather than a failure of the logic board, but retina MacBooks Pro have most of their parts soldered to the logic board, so, any repair is quite expensive. Finally, if you live in a European country, remember that your Mac has got a 2-year statutory warranty, then you may qualify for a free repair.

  • MacBook Pro 9.2 breaks down after 2 years

    Hello

I bought a Macbook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012) 9.2 on June 6, 2014. After almost two years, he froze one night. After restart, it showed a gray/white screen with an exclamation mark in a folder. After a visit to the store where I bought and a diagnosis of HARD drive, it appeared that the HARD drive was broken. So far so good.

I replaced the HARD drive, but the problem persisted.

That's how the problem was revealed: I managed to launch several times and it worked like a charm for several hours, then again: freeze (spinning beachball), the mouse will not move, the system is totally insensitive.

Strange thing: the Apple Hardware Test showed no problems.

Another strange thing: once, I was streaming music on the internet. He continued to play and he always did it for 30 minutes. Then, I held the power button for the shutdown of the system.

After reboot, I had a gray screen with question mark or a sign of ban folder or the symbol of apple with a spinning wheel. After leaving "rest" for a few hours, it starts again. I performed this ritual for several days. So far: the laptop computer is unbootable. It seems it's broken for good.

The real question is: If there is a hardware problem (motherboard or memory card), how was the system able to work several times for long hours. It may not be a software problem. With the new HARD drive, I reinstalled the system.

I googled HARD drive cable might be vice and that this could be the source of the problem. As something bad connection. But how can you be sure? Everyone knows about similar problems with his Macbook pro 9.2 (13 inch, mid-2012)?

I am very disappointed. It's the second Macbook Pro abandons him on me. The first one (15-inch Macbook Pro 4.1) broke after four years due to a faulty graphics unit.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

To test a possible cable fault, remove the HARD drive, plug it into the MBP via USB and start the MBP with the OPTION key down.  The HARD drive icon should appear, click on it.  If it works normally, then that is an indicator that the SATA cable is defective or has a bad connection.

    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro 8.2 - almost hourly kernel panic leading to restarts

I was faced with frequent kernel panics in the last month or so and took my MBP to an Apple authorized service provider, which says that the problem is with my logic board but couldn't provide me with a diagnostic report of my machine that said the Board was at fault. I had my logic board replaced the year last of the expanded program from Apple. Although this was, I myself a new HARD drive and 16 GB of RAM (Corsair) as well. Everything worked fine until a few months ago when my MBP will re-start once at boot. In recent weeks, the problem has become chronic and it restarts so random (no special application or steps seems to trigger)

I do not trust the FSAA here in India, especially as I think they are trying to make quick money sell me a ~ $700 repair. Can someone look through the reports of panic and guide me on what seems to be the problem?

Here's the latest report of crash-

It looks like you posted the whole kernel panic report.  Check to see if there is more information and post it.

Install the original RAM and see if the panic stop.

    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro keeps having to start

After using my MacBook Pro and then I let it go to sleep I have to re - start. I always get an error message saying that there was a problem. I don't know what to do. Here is the text of the error message output. I thought that I post the message here hoping that someone can understand what is being said and I hope tell me some sort of solution or point me to a tutorial.

    On the computer

    Java 1.8

    The Error Message

There is a lot of mention about the apple.driver. This strange I did ' think that used Mac drivers.

    Thank you!

Your MBP is having problems GPU.  This program can be applied:

    https://www.Apple.com/support/MacBookPro-videoissues/

Bring the MBP to an Apple store for testing.

    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro 5.5 crashes when you use multiple applications

Then my macbook pro 5,5 I upgraded to snow leopard at el captian started planting after that I updated when you use multiple applications (virtual dj 7.0.4 safari 9.1 and the version of microsoft word 2011 14.4.2).)

I removed the old hdd and put in a ssd 250 GB and a new battery with the snow leopard a long time ago, before I upgraded to the new operating system. It seems to me that what is blocking it is intensive use the safari app and another intensive resources such as virtual dj application.

I have reset pram/vram and uses firefox now...

the computer and the new el capitan are beautiful, I really feel like im going to get a lot out of this operating system, and it gave new life to my computer, but the crash problem when using multiple applications is too often. Can I submit some reports if necessary kernel panic?

  • Is my Macbook Pro battery defective?

I got my Macbook Pro since 2012.  For some time on the marketing of the battery, it started sometimes and then turns off for no apparent reason.  It of today and has not responded to the power switch, finally raise a screen indicating that I had to go to food.  What I've done and the laptop booted normally.  As the indicator of battery at the top of the screen showed more than 40% charged that I wonder if my battery can develop a fault.  Does anyone have a similar experience?

Have you tried resetting the SMC? Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support

It says in information system on the State of the battery? It does not say 'Normal' or 'Service' or?

so I ve been looking for help and advice how ever these seems to be an unusual problem did not all patches still seems in reality nobody knows! ¿s' some ligth on the question please
