File & Settings Transfer Wizard?

I was just checking the "and settings files Transfer Wizard" has been added as a feature of Windows XP. I chose the same computer as the computer old & new & all that this wizard transfers, has been moved back to the same computer. When asked of the location where the backup files have been, I selected "Documents & settings". After you run the Wizard twice - once to move the files 'FROM' & once to move the files "in THE", while they inspected my PC, I find that everything seems to be exactly where it was before my using this wizard.

1. However, I want to make sure that no damage has been done. How can I?

2. This wizard will leave all files "Leftovers" once it has done its job? If so, can I want to delete these they would be needlessly takes up space on my PC how can I check where are these files Left Over & get rid of them?

Well for starters the FTW, you must select the pc as 'old' or 'new '. Old, sets the wizard

to collect the new, data sets, the wizard of abstract data & place data in the OS... Collect data

set as old, chk the boxes that you want it to collect, put data into a new folder that you created, once its

put Thru, folder on a cd, or a hd storage... In addition, the wizard never seems to runs fine except

cd to install xp to a given time...

I recently had to format my hard drive and start over. I used the "files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to collect, compress and save all my pictures, etc... She is transferred to 11.1 GB and ended successfully. But now that I formatted I can't transfer files to the newly formatted hard drive. I direct the wizard to the folder I saved them and I get the message:"the location you specified does not have information stored. Please enter a valid folder path into the edit box

At the same time I see 7 files in the folder.

    IMG00001-IMG00006are all the DAT files.

The two operating systems is Windows XP Professional.

  • Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

Move to a new computer. How do I use the files and Settings Transfer Wizard when a drive D:\, where most of the records, should be moved from the old computer? Would it not be better to move the drive before or after using the wizard?

    Old computer: WXP Pro SP3

    New computer: W7 Pro

Also, the Office 2003 pro is compatible with W7Pro?

Thanks Steve responding. Yes, I was looking to move the disk to the new machine, but this effort is now moot. It turns out that the car was not compatible with the environment of W7. Had to reinstall everything manually. Bought a new external 3 to Seagate protable drive and moved everything to him. Great work and no more worries about space.

Also upgraded to Office 2010 to avoid more problems with this. Just having problems learning curve that I can rely.

    Thanks again.

  • Transform Windows XP & Settings Transfer Wizard of files for Windows 7-64 bit?

I did a back up and run the Transfer Wizard - settings & Windows XP file THEN I discovered on the Windows 7 transfer Assistant.  So I ran this program.  Somewhere in update XP to Windows 7, Win 7 thought my backup disk was altered and basically remapped and "recovered" all files/lines lost - even if there is nothing wrong the drive.  The file transfer Wizard Windows 7 was "recovered" with 0 bytes.

I still have the download Windows XP UNC file.  Is it possible to convert this program or import this program for recover my settings in Windows 7 64 bit?

    Hi Johncon,

Thanks for posting. There are third-party applications available that can help you with this. Also call 1-800-Microsoft can help because they have a tool as well.

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

    I hope this helps!

  • Big problem with the files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Basically, what has happened here, it is that I did a backup of the files on the computer of a friend with the wizard to transfer to an external hard drive, but I started on the old computer and for one reason or another never get the CD Wizard so I thought that I was OK.  Don't think.  The idea was to have the backup files in case I needed to reformat the drive hard, I ended up reformatting the drive and when I finally got the installation more done with trying to run the file and Settings Wizard and when I chose the external drive that files were on and then subsequently the folder and it said that it did not contain information.  So basically I'm stuck with a complete record of .dat files, and the wizard will not let me extract the files off the drive.  Is there anyway that I can return information about the files, or I'm totally finished.

Everything worked ok that it proved just that he did not want to me to choose the actual file as a path, but the hard drive.  It was just something simple that I pop up.  Thanks for the help but I don't know that it would have been the next problem if I didn't had not updated the operating system first.

  • Files and settings are not transferred when I use the files and the Settings Transfer Wizard

Two XP computers are same all critical Service Pack 3 with the update.  Same version of FAST.

Running FAST on the old computer (files and settings) creates the USMT2. The UNC file.

Run FAST on the NEW computer concludes the USMT2. UNC file and works through its steps.

Both measures take about two hours to complete.

When FASTING is complete on the new computer he wants to disconnect the user.  At this point, it seems that it worked without errors.  (no error messages at all)

After the Cup then turn it back, it's as FAST does not work.

FASTWiz.log is 175KO on OLD PC and 72KO on NEW

Don't know what to look for or what could be the problem.

Both computers have MigWiz.exe version 5.1.2600.5512

I'm glad you worked on it.  Thanks for letting me know.

  • I used the file and Settings Transfer Wizard...

.. before reinstalling the OS to the factory settings on my Dell XPS 420.

When I tried to reinstall parameters, etc., everything was recovered, but my Outlook *.pst and so all my emails, settings account and contacts.

I tried to re - import this data, but it is still missing.  Curiously, it is the case with other accounts for *.pst files, too.

I was under the impression of the data should be relocated by default, if someone could tell me where these data could be and if I can recover from in the backup file?

    Thank you very much

  • Can I use easy to get my old C: files/settings transfer?

My desktop XPSP3 is dead, but the hard drive is always good and is mounted in a USB enclosure attached to a new office with Windows 7 Home Premium. Can I use Easy Transfer on the new desktop to get my files and settings from the old drive XPSP3?  If so, how?  Thank you.

No, you will need to copy them manually.

You may need to take possession of some of the folders:

Windows 7 take ownership & grant permissions to access files & folder

To copy and paste a file:

    1. Open the location that contains the file you want to copy.

    2. Right click on the file and then click on copy.

    3. Open the location where you want to store the copy.

    4. Right-click on an empty space within the location and then click on paste. The copy of the original file is now stored in the new location.

For more information about copying multiple files, see select multiple files or folders.

    Tips

    • Another way to copy and paste files is to use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C (copy) and Ctrl + V (paste).

    • You can also press on and hold the right mouse button and drag the file to the new location. When you release the mouse button, click on copy here.

    • You can copy and paste a folder in the same way as you would a file. When you do this, all the files in the folder are also copied.

  • Easy Transfer Wizard error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings. The download file size is 40 GB and I have a C: drive that says he has 280 GB free and a D: drive has 298 GB free.

I made a successful backup of the Easy Transfer of files on an external hard drive.  Previously, this computer was in Vista for more than 1 year without any problem.

After you perform a custom installation (I wanted to start with a clean install) of Win7, everything works.  I installed the Windows/Office updates and all my other program files.  When I run the transfer Assistant, it locates the 'old computer' transfer file and reads OK, showing users and the size of the 40.1 GB file transfer.  When I click the button forward, I get error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings.  However, I have more than 280 GB free on my C: drive.

This disc is watching him and what should I do to work around this problem.  If I can't get my files/settings back, I'll be VERY unhappy customer.

I've just passed through even - WET previous Dell PC running Windows 7 Ultimate to HP with Windows 7 Home Premium. The Belkin Easy Transfer cable help.
WET said not enough space even if the hard drive is twice the size.
I clicked on "Advanced" and noticed that WET strives also transfer Dell factory image from the recovery partition and the HP recovery partition was smaller.
I unticked (unchecked) files recovery partitio on old computer and everything is going very well from hand to hand.
    Hope that helps!

  • How to: retrieve files incorporated in a Vista Easy Transfer Wizard USB key

Original title: How can I recover the files embedded in a Vista Easy Transfer Wizard USB key

I was trying to use the restore function (integrated in drive D) HP system on a laptop computer to restore the image to that at the time of delivery.  I had used Windows Easy Transfer Service to place all the files of the user on a USB key.  I'd just take the default value (I thought) selection which included files on the D drive.  Now, after the restoration of the image, I can't get the file transfer function works as it crashes when you try to replace D.  I need to recover the files to user directories in the old C drive, but I don't see an option anywhere in the process, to do this.  Surely a way, I can tell it to ignore the files on drive D.
