file sharing between LAN workgroup-need a permission that 'everyone'

I run Vista, and I often need to help my wife, who works under 7, organized and administer some of his personal papers.

It is more convenient to do this on the network, rather than running my wife his machine a lot.

It works fine when I put these folders permissions to "everyone". Both machines are on the same workgroup and I can access his machine and all those files in read/write.

However, I am not better than "everyone"? I don't have any other users (like our children) on his computer to be able to see personal records. I just want him and myself, read/write, them.

I looked in on his 7 machine permissions dialog box (7 Home premium 32-bit), but I can't find how to specify a network user or workgroup for read/write access. The only people who appear in the dialog box "Choose to share with people" are user accounts on a physical machine.

Related to this - on a Windows help site, I saw a dialog box that says 'Choose people on the network to share with' but on my wife's machine, it says that "choose people to share with.

I activated the file & printer sharing, disabled sharing password protected, etc. on both computers.

We do not run any firewall left 3rd on each machine.

  • File sharing between two computers with DIFFERENT Versions of Windows (XP & Vista)

I just bought a WRT54G4 Wireless-G router broadbad & am a n00bie to this any thng in network.  I like the current state of things now, all considering that both my desktop PC (Windows XP Home Edition) & my laptop wireless PC (Windows Vista Home Premium) are online (local & Internet) BUT I can't seem to get things while my desktop PC sharing files which can then be read and otherwise accessible by the laptop.

    Here's what I'm trying to...

    * Have BOTH computers access the Internet via a private network (which I already managed to do)

    * Having the Office to share files that are accessible (wireless or not) from my laptop

Essentially, I want to be able to use the TWO HDs according to needs.

My office is an old computer AMD Duron 1 Ghz. with 512 MB RAM & can handle a FEW small spots, but the big gun is my laptop (A 1.86 Ghz. Intel Pentium with 3 GB of RAM). Because of his speed & memory, I would like to have the laptop handle larger & more intensive tasks.

Although my laptop has a smaller hard drive compared to my office (A 136 GB HD in the office (200 GB) compared to a 141 GB (I guess this HD is around this size, but since it came pre-installed, & I am currently leasing to buy, I don't know), I would like to be able to use if possible of the TWO HDs.)  All I need is for both computers see the two HDs & all the files on it.

I tried implementing the sharing of files, as shown elsewhere on the Linksys site, but he lost when I rebooted both my computers, since that's what the page told me to do (I followed Windows XP as the Office has all the files that I want to share & Windows XP is the operating system of the desktop).  Should I have not done this?

In addition, my ultimate goal is to GET RID of the big bulky monitor I connected to the back end of my desktop PC & all simply use the laptop instead, because it does not take a lot of desktop space.  Y at - it an emulator "Virtual monitor" or software of some sort that I can download (for FREE please ) that will allow me to see the jobs of all the computers on my network, just as if I

had REAL monitors?  If so, where could I find one?

In short, together, I have accomplished a lot lately since I bought the router & linked computers, as you can see, I still need help & I've got some learning to do.

Any help I can get would be MOST appreciated.

  • File sharing between 'Vista Home Premium' on desktop PC and 'Windows 7 Starter' on laptop

    Hello

I have a desktop under Vista Home Premium PC.

I would use my laptop, Windows 7 Starter, to access the files/folders on my desktop running.

The existing guidelines of Microsoft tells me to select one of the three options on the 'Remote' tab in the 'System properties' window, you get to via the settings 'distance' in the 'System' part of the 'system and safety' in the control panel.

However, the "three options", to which it refers do not, appear on my phome PC or laptop.

Exactly how you set this to the top!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

Since you have a network with Win 7 and the other version of Windows, you must configure Windows 7 as work network.

In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.

Choose your network type. Note the check box at the bottom and check/uncheck depending on your needs.

  • My files shared between 2 XP Pro systems are more accessible between machines on my home network

Years I've been to access shared folders and disk drives (in My Network Places) from my laptop (when I'm home) to my home system which is basically just a box Windows XP Pro with a bunch of big hard drives in it.  Now, after having been away for a few weeks, I'm more able to access the shared folders and drives.  I went into MMC and made sure my security settings were extracted 'classic', made sure that auditors invited on both machines have been put to 'on', ensures that stocks are good, etc..   I just get a popup when trying to access the share (which appears in my network places) saying that I don't have permission to access the network resource.

This problem may have been exacerbated by the fact that I had a disk crash then outside and he did a restore of a backup (5 weeks) on the new disk drive.    But everything else seems to work very well, and this environment, which was the source of the backup image could access actions flawless.  Note that the use of the accounts that I have installed on both machines are the same account name, administrator privileges and password.   Note that I cannot access Windows 2000 environments with shared folders (3 other computers in the House) no problem. It is only the XP environment I can't get access to work.

I use the settings of workgroup (no domain).  Everything here is local to the House, through a LinkSys Router.  Internet is through the router using a DSL modem.   I run Kaspersky security/AV.  Notice when I disable the Kaspersky, I still can not access the shared devices.

I'm at the end of my rope.    Can anyone help?

OK, good news and some not very good news.

I tried to restart the service, the drive mapping, etc. - nothing has worked.  However - the error that I got when I tried to map a drive was not "enough storage server.  I looked, and sure enough found some entries for 2011 event IDS in the event viewer.  Searched for and found a KB Microsoft Q17707 article (or 17708?) who described it as a problem caused by Symantec NAV (no surprises).   In addition to research, I found the registry key that irpstacksize is eliminated!   I've recreated the DWORD entry in the registry with the default value of 15, and the problem persisted.  Then I discovered someone on some forum that said increase until she started working, so I put up (50 decimals) and voila!  The problem is gone and I can now access the shared drives on the computer from the computer laptop, apparently reliable.   (although this forum said that the problem seems to come and go on some machines, related to the use of major external USB drives. Sounds reasonable, because recently I started using some USB drives of 1 TB for backup images external on the laptop and the service).

So... for the moment, the problem seems to have disappeared.  This forum said, it's some kind of bug, Microsoft, and Symantec pointing the finger at the other as the cause and who is responsible to fix it (nothing new there), so I expect to arise again some time in the future, very probably at a monumentally inopportune moment.

    Thanks for your help.

  • FLAC file sharing between music on iPod touch apps?

I want to put music files FLAC on my iPod touch so I can play the same music in different applications to compare the apps.

iTunes allows you to move files to an iPod so that these files belong to a certain application. But with most large FLAC music files, I don't want to load a copy of sylvie in the appA and appB - would take a lot of disk space.

Looking for a way to put a file FLAC in a place where it can be seen by two applications.

Music applications that I have for this audit, the musical library of Apple, but iTunes won't import FLAC and I don't want to convert the files.

The easiest way is with a crossover cable - a special wire to connect the two systems.
You can get one at your local computer store - they are not expensive.

  • Can't see another computer for file sharing

    Hello
I have 2 computers in my house, a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 and the other a XP Home Edition SP3 race, both connected to the Internet through a router TL-MR3420 and the adapter TP-LINK TL-WN822N. I have enabled the sharing of files on both computers and have no problem to display all of the files shared between each computer, so far.
Whenever I try to view another computer via "Network" or "homegroup" menu on 7 (or my network places on XP), I can't see my other computer which is supposed to be there. So far, I've tried a few attempts to analyze and resolve:
1 ping each other by IP - success.
2 ping each other by the name of the computer - has failed.
    3. try to access to "- and " run - failed with error 0 x 80070035 - path not found network. ".
4 run diagnose step above on Windows 7, she returned with a result: "the device or resource (my static IP XP) is not configured to accept connections on port 'The file sharing and printers (SMB)'."
5 turn off the firewall on the computers and router.
    6. ensure that necessary services for file sharing are active.
    7. the reactivation of the wireless connection on both computers.
8 change the name of the Working Group on both computers.
    9. run ipconfig/all on both computers.
10 install this fix on my XP.
Ipconfig, it seems my two computers showing the active DHCP on 'no', so I changed my network settings to "obtain an IP automatically" she turns to the 'yes' later. And "NetBIOS over TCP/IP", showing the different statutes on 7 that it is activated on XP it is disabled, even though I put it activated via the WINS tab on the XP network settings. Still do not solve the problem.
I don't know if it means something, but I share also some folders on my 7 to my Tablet ES File Explorer app, it works as it should (as long as I use static IP address), but if I try to connect my tablet to shared folders on XP, it always shows error message on either:
WiFi is turned off (it is)
SMB server is out of reach of the network
The ip address is not valid
    Blocked by the firewall
    SMB service is disabled
I guess that Wifi, IP and firewall are not the problem, and I don't know about SMB, it's stands for Samba / file Printer Sharing? He has already checked on computer network settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    I solved this.

I opened my XP, run these commands via cmd:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
    netsh winsock reset
Restart the computer and then change my connection of cable wireless lan then back to wireless again.
