    Hi bsebllking23

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers site!

You can try to reset the Indexing Options to a new start by removing and rebuilding the index.
Your index requires virtually no maintenance. However, if the index find the files you know problems must be located in an indexed location, you might need to rebuild the index.

    To rebuild the index:

    1. open indexing and search by clicking the Start button Options, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Indexing Options.
    2. click on Advanced Options, click the index settings tab and then click on rebuild. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Hello

The difference, if you disable the search indexer will be the speed of searches that you perform on the system. With the active search indexer, research will be instant, and with this option turned off, they will take a lot of time. It's the performance issue only if you turn off this feature.

If you have recently enabled the search indexer, it is normal for this component to use a lot of resources, but once the indexing is completed, the resources will be negligible.

The search indexer is also designed to perform indexing when your computer is idle. If you start to use the computer, the indexer will pause until it detects an idle state.
