Find/replace a Word and a space with an em dash

I imported the text in there: "title:" (note the space after the colon)

I wanted to replace the word, colon and space by an em dash.

But InDesign is not letting me do. I can find/replace "title:" without the space. But I want to replace this space, too! How can I do this? Thank you!

Hello

? Why not just replace the word, colon and space by an em dash?

If so, you can create a GREP style in the paragraph style.

    Make "new Style GREP.

In the new character Style, only change the fill color and name the style.

  • Remove the left and right spaces with calculation

I read in this forum that I can create a SQL expression calculation after 'Send' to remove the spaces to the left. I put in the source: ltrim(:P209_DESCRIPTION), but it did not work. You have another idea to achieve this? Thank you.

Let us first find what you really use the following to replace all tabs with ' ~' and all the spaces with "%". This will give us a clearer picture of the characters that we have

Select translate ('asd fd, chr (9) |) Chr (32),'~ %') of the double

    Then, we can use

    Select ltrim (: P209_DESCRIPTION, chr (9) |) Chr (32)) of the double

    for trim tabs and spaces

  • Why I can't get a hit with the find/replace glyphs palette. Faces of fonts checked.

I received a copy (word doc) with a table using glyphs Sq Root in place and place check marks. Looking to find replace but GREP and text can't seem to manage the ROOT SQUARE or check MARK glyphs. If the glyphs tab of course right?

Providing I still exact characters corresponding and no delicate Adobe fonts not anchored object with font substitution, that I can't seem to make a match with the glyph of the SQUARE ROOT.

No idea why? Attack from a previous thread on my confusion even find these glyphs of fonts that appear to contain them who do not.

Hey thanks for this tip, I've seen this kind of keyboard shortcuts commands, but never thought to use it in this situation. It turns out that, because the glyph is in a table , I need to set the "Include locked layers and locked objects (FindOnly)" even if the layer is not locked, I suppose that the tables are "locked" per class.

    HI Brendan,

You don't need an advanced find and replace for it.

In the search box, press, then space.

In the box replace by, press option-return.

Then click Find and replace and find until you are finished.

  • Help with wildcards and find/replace

I have indesign CS5 and I'm working on a document that contains a number of mathematical examples throughout these 9-1 = 8. The corrector said must change to be a space between each symbol figure and math at 9-1 = 8. How can I do this? When I go to find/replace, I have the option of wildcards in find, but not to replace it.

The dashboard in these equations must also be changed to quadratins. How can I know indesign is any time sees such an equation, the dashboard must be changed? I don't want to just change all the dashes as I much dashes that need to stay.

  • Replacement of the space with joker

I have a table with names as follows-

    () AS T

SELECT THE NAME OF "JOHN M SMITH" DOUBLE

    UNION

    SELECT "ANDREW SMITH" DOUBLE

    UNION

SELECT "A CARREY AND MIKE M N SMITH" DOUBLE)

    SELECT * FROM T

My requirement is that if the name is a single character, then attach a joker with it, if it's more than a single space character, and then attach a single space followed by a wildcard character, so the final result should be like this: -.

    JOHN M % SMITH

    % OF ANDREW SMITH

    CARREY-MIKE % M % N % SMITH

probably, it will be done with regular expressions, but don't know how.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

    Here's one way:

    SELECT name

    , REGEXP_REPLACE (REPLACE (name, ' % ',' '))

    , '((^| ) [[: alpha :]])]] %'

    , '\1%'

    ) AS wild_name

    T

    ;

    Output:

    NAME WILD_NAME
    --------------------------- ------------------------------------
    A CARREY AND MIKE M N SMITH CARREY MIKE % M % N % SMITH
    ANDREW SMITH ANDREW SMITH %
    JOHN M % M % SMITH JOHN SMITH

    Here's how it works:

REPLACE replaces all space space generic space.  It's almost what you want: the only problem is that, immediately after a single letter word, you want generic-space instead of space-credits-space.  REGEXP_REPLACE finds all occurrences of SingleLetterWord-the space-credits and modifies them to SingleLetterWord-wildcard.

I tried to explain in more detail a related problem, but of course he gone too so I send this before I lose too.
    original title: email disappears

The text turns blue, because you mentioned it.  The most plausible explanation to highlight all of the text while typing is due to hit CTRL-A, which is the same as Edit | Select all.  Then when you type a character when this text is highlighted, then highlighted (blue) text is replaced by the character you typed.  Be very careful to not press the CTRL key instead of the SHIFT key when you type a capital letter A or else which will never happen.

  • InDesign CC Grep find/replace to replace the character of space per paragraph (fly)

    Hello InDesigners,

I'm trying to clean up a 99 page document. In the file, titles of chapters, in capital letters, followed by a space, which is then followed with text more uppercase there. This always occurs at the beginning of a paragraph.

I'm trying to target the space character that appears just after the number of chapter and Exchange to a number (fly).

    For example:

    CHAPTER 22 SUNDAY UNDERGROUND

I want the Grep to change this as follows:

    CHAPTER 22

    SUNDAY UNDERGROUND

I know that to do this job, I need to use positive look behind and positive Look Ahead, at first, I just tried to isolate CHAPTER 22 using the following:

    ^ \u{2,}\s\d+

It worked. However, as soon as I cut and paste into P.L.B., find/replace says that it does not match.

    (?<=^\u{2,}\s\d+)\s

The culprit seems to be the comma that comes just after the number 2. If I take, I get a match, but just not the one I wanted.

Why P.L.B. does not accept the comma as part of the range in my definition grep?

(FYI, I prefer to use wildcards with a specified scope, rather than literal text).

It is indeed the comma, and the reason why it does not work because the flavor of InDesign's GREP does not allow a variable length argument in its lookbehinds. And the construction "has {x, y}" indicates a variable length.

"Chapter" only you know how many characters to uppercase, and even the exact text, you can use

    (?<=^CHAPTER>

the first chapters to a number, then

    (?<=^CHAPTER>

for the rest. In your version of InDesign, I guess there is also a possible solution with the fairly new \K "forget - me" operator but I have not yet enough experience with that. It should look like this:

    ^ \u{2,}\s\d+\K\s

but you will have to experiment a bit to see how to work with the replacement string.

In addition, you should only use the name of "fly" for a character that looks like this: "¶". The code that you insert will call it a 'return' or 'paragraph return. Initially, I took your question literally, and it sounded as if you were after this result: "CHAPTER 22 ¶ SUNDAY UNDERGROUND"

  • Find/replace help with generic numbers...

Hello... I am looking for help with wildcards.

I have a specific task to complete... I have to add dash & space in a space in a string of letters and characters...

    198 kbps - 01:27:43 41 MB - 44.1 kHz

    225-14 Kbps: 32:00 54 Mb - 48 kHz

    198 kbps - 01:27:43 - 41 Mb - 44.1 kHz

    225-14 Kbps: 32:00 - 54 Mb - 48 kHz

There are many variables the text - but I thought that maybe I could create a generic figure find/replace, based on the Mb of type bit, replacing the single space space hyphen space

    BUT

I need to keep the numbers before the MB

so my question - is it possible to KEEP the NUMBERS of GENERIC character?

    Thank you very much!

Try it on a few see if it works.

  • Find and replace tags opening and closing

Is there a way to search and replace the entire tag in dreamweaver?

I want to take away all of the < span > tags in the document because it is an epub. But some of the <>spans are for the body and some are for another hairstyle, in this case italic. I can go through and just find and replace, but then who would only replace the opening < span > and not closing </span >, leaving a lot of open tags < em > to sift through. There are currently more than 1,500 cases of italic text in the book and I won't have trouble all by hand. What I want to do is to find the particular < span > tag and replace < em > < /em > both the opening and closing.

Here is an example of what I'm trying to do:

    To find:

    < span class = "CharOverride-4" > < / span >

    And replace with:

    < em > < /em >

    How do I get there?

    Thank you

If you use the Search Tag he finds tags opening / closing and replaces them with opening and closing .  Please see my screenshot again.
