Finder said disk almost full... but it's not really complete?

Hi all

I have a strange problem that I can't solve, even with all my own research in similar problems.

Basically:

1 finder said on 1000 GB on my hard drive, I have 50 or so the rest (950 or so in free use), which shouldn't be the case.

2. just in case I'm wrong, I ran OmniDiskSweeper and DiskSweeper X to see what files are taking up that space, and the two agree that 560 or GB are used, which means that I should have still about 340 GB left, but it's all be plagued by something mysterious.

Is there anything else I could do to investigate and solve this problem and reclaim that space? Any help would be appreciated.

Time Machine has been disabled for years, and remains so, if providing aid.

Thank you!

  • Re: Data (:)) is almost full, but cleaning is not efficient.

    Hello

Recently my laptop has been said, that the data reader is really low. It is said 5.28MD free 298 GB. I removed some things from programs and features, but instead, it reduces the Windows (c) (d) data. I don't know how to reduce it. I removed all my photos, videos and reduced my music, but it had no effect.

When the warning message appears, saying to click on it to reduce. I click on it and it's a cleaning disc, but it only goes in the trash that I emptied regularly and has no effect what so ever. There is literally no point. What should I do?

Help me please and use simplistic language.

We don t know what you recorded on your partitions and how you have organized your disk but if you need more free space on partition D move the data from the D partition to an external device like a USB stick or external HARD disk.

For example, if you have 10GB of music on D move them to the USB key and you will get 10 GB of free space on that partition. It's not a big deal.

Maybe you also need to clean the system. Download and install CCleaner and use it from time to time to remove all saved temporary files.

One last thing: maybe is system backup option enabled on your laptop (daily, weekly, monthly?

The recovery partition is set by default to have very little free space_and has no negative effect on it or system. However, if you use it to back up files, it could fill to capacity. Do not use for backup. You can also check to see if the System Restore monitors the partition, if so, turn it off. Whatever you do, do not compress the partition. Doing so will serve as recovery to stop working.

I only use my drive of 'L' of 500 MB for backup.  I deleted almost all of the files it contains, but I can't save or copy files to this disc, because Vista tells me that it's full.  Help?

    Hi Coribill,

If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use disk cleanup. It removes temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

. What is the capacity of memory of the file or folder you are trying to save?

If the file you are trying to backup is over 500 MB, then it is not possible to save.

I suggest you to save the files, if you have more than 1.5 GB free space to perform the backup.

You can also try another drive that has more space and make the backup.

If you do not have enough memory to perform the backup of your internal hard drive, you can connect your external hard drive in this case.

Follow the steps in the link below to delete files in the drive using disk cleanup.

    Hello

Some computers have E: as the recovery instead of D partition; to reinstall the OS if necessary, due to the failure of the system or faults

Click Start > computer to see what size drive E: is and what he says on this subject.

If she says it's the recovery disk and / or if it is under 15-19GBs it is the recovery partition and you must contact the manufacturer of your computer for assistance with this problem.

Another reason is there to make you your own set of recovery of the disk. Ask the manufacturer how to.

If it is not the recovery drive, please after return.

    See you soon.

  • Troubleshooting said printing problem fixed, but this is not

I am running Windows 7 with a Dell 720 photo printer. I had to download a printer driver, the printer is not compatible with Windows 7, but support Dell says I put everything. Everything was fine for a while. Then a gummed up print job works. Nothing will print and I can't delete the file that is causing problems. Troubleshooting, says the issue is resolved, but it is not. I tried to delete all the print jobs, but it will not go away.

Honestly, I don't want even want to User Account Control or ever do sign on my own computer.  When I use a computer at home, my firewall and router are fine enough to control the access to the outside. I don't want multiple accounts to home users. I don't know even where to start fixing this recital that a guy from AnswerDesk.com was on my computer for more than 9 hours, while I watched and made a blunder still more things.  It has disconnected and never followed. Hi rsnyder345,

    ·         You are trying to install updates?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network at the time the anti-virus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot State to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the link step 7 to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • Advice needed - disk almost full (Vista)

Hi hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I have a laptop Fujitsu running on Vista and the drive, drive is nearly full, he is only 30 GB and only got 3 GB free, that it has no images, videos or documents, I searched on the internet and using treefile find WinSXS is taking almost 10 GB. I understand that service pack 1 has a utility to clean up Winsxs but I need at least 4 GB to install SP1, I uninstalled all unnecessary programs, ran clean disk and also installed and ran ccleaner. I am now at a loss, what to do, I could do a full restore but I don't have a recovery disk, there is that no restore points on the drive, so it cannot come back earlier, ideas? Thanks in advance

It depends on if the D: drive is actually part of the same hard drive, or two separate drives. You can view this information by going to the Disk Manager tool.  If this is the case, you can use a tool that will allow you to delete D: and extend C: to use lots of disk partitioning disk space.

I realize that you are on Vista, which is not the same as Windows 7 configuration. With Vista, you can disable the option system restore, it will stop automatically create points of restoration of Windows, but you will leave at risk if you want to recover from mistakes in the future, so please ensure that you take regular backups of system and files on an external drive.

There is a good walkthrough here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/vista-reclaim-and-release-disk-space-from-system-restore-and-shadow-copies

  • SSD disk almost full

I recently bought a new Dell Vostro 3560, with a 1 TB SERIAL ATA hard drive and a COMPLETE CARD 32 GB SSDR MSATA.

The 32 GB card is defined as drive C, on which is installed the OS (win7), but also of office.  I took care to install a new program on the D drive, but that is still quite empty, noticed that some programs have created files on the C drive as well (in files of program files). Now, the C drive is nearly full.

Is it possible to change the partition between C and D and allocate more space memory in C? Or should I completely remove windows and re-install everything on D? What is the right way to use the SSDR card?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I assume that you have installed Windows 7 manually. You should not install Windows 7 on a 32 GB drive its all just too small.

The 32 GB mSATA reader is designed to be a Cache drive. i.e. Windows must be installed on the primary drive. See Intel reactivity installation Dell technology Guide.

First you should check the settings of the BIOS - ' system must have the BIOS RAID mode value (in some menus of the system BIOS, this mode can be called Smart Response mode or quick start mode). " "Note: ATA and AHCI modes are not supported.

SSD Cache drive shouldn't be listed as a reader in option during the installation of Windows and be almost invisible. Then 'System must have Intel® Rapid Storage driver and application installed in the operating system.' See page 6 to 8 of the PDF above for instructions. You'll need to install and configure this application within Windows to start caching.

Note You may be able to change the player 32 GB for a 128-512 GB a GB mSATA and then it would be wise to install Windows on drive mSATA. I didn't know all the users report with success that they did that again although there are a few threads mention:
