'L' disk is full, but no files visible

Original title: 'L' full but no visible files

I only use my drive of 'L' of 500 MB for backup.  I deleted almost all of the files it contains, but I can't save or copy files to this disc, because Vista tells me that it's full.  Help?

Hi Coribill,

If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use disk cleanup. It removes temporary files, empty the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

. What is the capacity of memory of the file or folder you are trying to save?

If the file you are trying to backup is over 500 MB, then it is not possible to save.

I suggest you to save the files, if you have more than 1.5 GB free space to perform the backup.

You can also try another drive that has more space and make the backup.

If you do not have enough memory to perform the backup of your internal hard drive, you can connect your external hard drive in this case.

Follow the steps in the link below to delete files in the drive using disk cleanup.

Delete files using Disk Cleanup:

Also check if the files are hidden.

Follow the steps in the link below to view the hidden files and folders.

    Hello

Some computers have E: as the recovery instead of D partition; to reinstall the OS if necessary, due to the failure of the system or faults

Click Start > computer to see what size drive E: is and what he says on this subject.

If she says it's the recovery disk and / or if it is under 15-19GBs it is the recovery partition and you must contact the manufacturer of your computer for assistance with this problem.

Another reason is there to make you your own set of recovery of the disk. Ask the manufacturer how to.

If it is not the recovery drive, please after return.

  • Basket full, but no files are displayed

When I delete files, my recycle bin icon changes from empty to full, but when I click on the trash, it opens an empty window, as if there is no files inside.

When I click on "empty trash" it displays a confirmation request asking "Are you sure you want to delete these 16 items."  So it seems that the elements are there, just that for some reason that I do not see the list of them.  I tried to change the preferences for the bin recycling show all files, but that did not help, the total number of files still display reads as 0.

If I have the bin opens when I delete something, I can see it now, but as soon as I update, I just deleted that disappears from the screen, although it is still in the trash until I click to empty.

I have already been through the forums and tried these solutions:

    Hi Ian

Many suggested in the last two months. :)

Back when it was suggested to do the clean boot and you have determined that the trash has worked properly in clean boot mode, you were able to check what Service or startup program has been the origin of the problem by disabling Services and/or startup programs in MSCONFIG?

I think it's been reduced to another Service or startup program is causing this problem.  You said that you have created two new users have the issue as well.  At this point, my recommendation is:

    1. live with the problem you mentioned that you prefer to do.
2 use MSconfig to check what Service or startup program is causing the problem.
3 backs up your data and use the recovery DVD and turn your computer to produce specifications.

  • Erased all messages in my Inbox except 1 that I can't remove. ERR mess says disk is full, but I can't compact bec he told one another process is running

An old message is stuck in my Inbox. No matter what I do it not delete and I can no longer receive email on this computer because I get this message: there is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try to delete old messages, empty the deleted folder and compacting of your e-mail folders, and then try again. I erased my delete and send files and greatly reduced my folders, but the same situation applies. I tried to compact manually, but then I get the message that it can not compact as another process is running. However, on my iphone, or on another computer, I can still get an email update.

try to take the file offline Thunderbird (Alt + F) menu > offline > workoffline
    Close Thunderbird
    Restart your computer
Restart Thunderbird and try compacting while Thunderbird is still offline.

Is the drive in FAT32 formatted accidentally? If so, you can only restore up to 4 GB for a single file. Try to make a TIFF sequence instead. Tip of litte - press the LZW compression checkbox in the options for a lossless compression format, this allows you to keep the path file size down.

    Hi Evilodet,

Is it an external hard drive?

This can occur due to temporary files. I suggest the following steps.

    Step 1 : Disk Cleanup

Run Disk Cleanup on drive C and H drive.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

Step 2 : check the disk

    1. click on start
    2. type cmd in the start search box and right-click on cmd from the top of the menu, and choose Run as administrator.
    3. type the following command at the command prompt: chkdsk /r
    4. check if the problem persists.

  • If time machine is incremental how it removes previous versions when the disk is full, without breaking the chain, so do not be able to restore all changes since the first full file

If time machine is incremental how it removes previous versions when the disk is full, without breaking the chain, so do not be able to restore the file with any changes made since the full backup first file...

If the TM drive storage is full TM automatically deletes the version the oldest files for the new incremental backups can be made. Thus, in this case you cannot restore the versions that TM deleted because it takes more storage.

  • I receive a "Low disk space" message and to free up space (d) car which seems full of backup files dating from when I got the laptop in 2008.

I receive a "Low disk space" message and to free up space (d) car which seems full of backup files dating from when I got the laptop. Now I also have the message 'the last backup impossible' because I don't have enough space on this drive.  He had originally 110 GB Local disk (d :)) and it fell to 7.44 MB of free space.) Can I remove the back of the 'safeguards' located in the 3 files and start on the 17/04/2008 right up to 2011-01.05 and just keep the last backup or removing the back will cause problems? Can someone help thank you.

    Hi KarenRoss56,

You can try to remove the old files of backup from 2008 to 2010 and check.

Note: When you delete these files and later if you perform a restore, you will not be able to get previous data. If you need one of these files, you can transfer the files to an external drive before you delete the system files.

You can also use Disk Cleanup to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run more quickly.

  • Disk hard online, but not visible in Windows Explorer

Hi guys, I need a little help.

Today, I installed an old 80 GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 PATA hard drive on my other PC, a Dell Inspiron 530, as a second HDD. I had to order new parts to connect actually upward from the power supply and motherboard SATA and IDE connections are not, but all those who are working very well.

My problem is that this Maxtor drive does not appear in Windows Explorer. BIOS, see Device Manager it disk management he sees (and even said it's online). Just not Windows Explorer.

In disk management, it is not a drive letter assigned to it, and when I right click on the disk partitions, anything but 'Delete the Volume' and 'Help' are grayed out. (Screenshot here: http://i39.tinypic.com/2ujpbeo.png)

I'm a bit stumped, it's almost like I can't use the drive at all. Any ideas?

Here's some more information about the system:

OS: Windows Vista editions Home Premium (Build 6002, Service Pack 2)

    BIOS: Phoenix AwardBIOS review 1.0.18

    Motherboard: Foxconn G33M02

    CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 1.6gHz

    Memory: 3072 MB DDR2 SDRAM

First HARD drive: 250 GB Hitachi SATA sister

HARD drive secondary: 80 GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 PATA (with jumper set to "Master DS")

    GPU: ASUS EAH4670

And I should add, just in case... This is PATA to SATA card, I use the drive: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320759737706?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT & _trksid = p3984.m1439.l2649

And I just use a SATA to Molex cable I found to convert the power.

    Thank you

    Hello

Thanks for this info. I looked more into filesystems and it turns out that the disc was either FAT or NTFS - it was EXT2 which is a Linux file system. I found this by starting Ubuntu that supports multiple file systems.

I didn't format it had data on personal, but I found an EXT2 driver and can now browse the Windows hard disk.

  • iMac won't turn. Startup disk is full. TDM won't let me edit.

iMac won't turn. Startup disk is full. TDM won't let me edit.

My iMac turns off 10 seconds after the start to the top. I tried repair disk running, to no avail. What is happening is because my boot drive is full, off the 500 GB I partitioned in mac, 493,63 GB is taken up. I bought a thunderbolt cable to access the TOC on my mac book, and I have access to my files now. The problem is that I can only copy files. Authorities say I read and write permissions. When I start my host computer, it says "you can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I'm trying to copy all my files on this computer and remove what I don't want copies, then reinstall OSX on my iMac. The problem is that some files are native to all OSX, so it would prevent me from copying the files. For example, if I want to copy my applications folder, it stops to copy once it reached the app store, because it cannot copy that. It is a problem because when it comes to the library, there are small files in there that I don't know if I can copy, then it stops at the copy and I end up with half of my files and I don't know what I need and what I have.

Everything you need to copy the disk, then start the iMac in recovery (command-R) mode. Wipe the drive and reinstall OS X from the recovery console.
