Finder window preferences

How can I get rid of the stupid split box in a new finder window?   (the part in red).

I can't find an option that will stop anywhere, and it drives me crazy.

This is the preview pane.  You can get rid a course to view course--> hide overview.

  • There are different Finder window

When I opened Finder on my iMac (version 5 k), I get a window that looks like this:

However, I am able to access the original Finder window by right-clicking on Finder > new smart folder

I'm running on OS X El Capitan 10.11.5.  I tried to restart the Finder via Terminal, no luck there.  It's frustrating, when I opened a folder, it opens one of these new windows in the Finder for each folder.  I end up having to close all when I'm done.  How can I fix it?

In the menu bar, click Finder > Preferences > General. Under "New Finder windows show," what is saying?

  • New Finder window opens in a folder randomly

    Hello

Everytime I open Finder on my Mac, it seems open to a random (American Truck Simulator folder). I was wondering if I could change that. I activated the setting "new Finder Windows show: {username}". Can I change this so a new window on its own opens on my user space.

    Thank you

    Leo

    May be a corrupt .plist.

Make a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user folder. With this Finder window as the windshield, select Finder/display/display options for presenting or order - J.  When the display options opens, check "show the library folder. This should make your visible user library folder in your user folder.  Select the library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist on your desktop.

Relaunch the Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works fine, delete the plist for the office.

If the same, return the .plist to where you have it since, by crushing the latest.

  • When searching from a finder window, why are there no visible file path bar? Is where you enter something in the search engine.

When searching for a finder window why don't the path bar of file at the bottom of the window disappears. Y at - it anyway to stay visible.

Of course, I would like to know where the file or folder is where spotlight shows its conclusions. Is there a preference I need to change to make the default action to be one in which the path to the file still appears at the bottom of the finder window?

Sorry, I discovered my problem. I didn't have a file selected in the list. As soon as I made the path to the file appears. Duh!

  • How to record a Finder window layout?

I work as a composer at an animation studio - our workflow is to make the files locally and duplicate and then the locations of the different folders on the server. Every morning, I've established a table of records of specific sizes to speed up my work flow. I want to be able to save this arrangement of the Finder Windows to save me from this manually every morning, but when I boot, Finder uses by default no windows rather than remember my previous layout. Is it possible to save a Finder window put in page?

  • Finder windows does not display the content

I have a Pre MacBrook, retina, 13-inch, early 2013 with a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB memory, OS x 10.9.5. Today, my Finder became unstable. When I open a Finder window, it is empty and sometimes even shows the desktop or parts of the application 'through' underlying window. When I force-quit Finder and recovery, the first time I open a Finder window opens normally, but after a time freezes. Opening of windows within the application file works normally, so I can access my files in this way, but it is very annoying. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? You can provide any help will be greatly appreciated.

Boot without failure and then stop and start normally seems to have solved the problem (I'm crossing my fingers as I type).

  • Get the fuzzy finder windows

My Mac Pro with OS X 10.9.5 2009 and my husband of 2011 MacBook Pro with the same OS developed blurred finder windows today.  These computers are not networked in some way.  Basically, the finder windows are unusable because of the truncated graphics, they show.  Someone recently had this problem or knows what to do?  I have reset the PRAM and that seemed to help, but only for an hour or two.  The last message I've seen this problem was 2 years ago in this forum.  (This person said to 1) reset the PRAM and NVRAM and 2) restart the computer in safe mode and then restart again.  (3) If this didn't help not told to start HD recovery and then fix the hard drive and the permissions, and then reinstall the 10.9.5 update.  And if none of this has helped 4) reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks, then reinstall the 10.9.5 update.  Apparently, the person said they tried all of these and they still had the problem.

I think it's weird that what happens to two of our computers at the same time.  Could this be a hardware problem?  The Mac Pro has 24 GB of ram (18 that has recently been installed) and the Mac Book Pro has 8 ram or casual jobs.

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

  • Finder windows keep crashing - several finder.plist creating

Yesterday, it started as windows buggy. Now I can't even open a Finder window without having to relaunch the Finder to move to the following subfolder.

I tried to remove/delete the finder.plist - I found several. Everytime I open a window, one is created. I wiped and restarted my laptop - problem is just as bad.

Does anyone have a solution? Several have posted similar, but never had back issues to say if the solutions worked for them. I am going through them and so far nothing works.

    Help?

    It worked:

  • Open a Finder window in the Dock

Obviously something, I forgot how to do, how very boring: temporarily place a folder (aka?) to the right of the dock, I want to click on it and open the folder in a finder window. As of today, instead of opening in a window of type column, the dock is covering my screen with large thumbnails of images in folders (I work with hundreds of graphic files). How can I convince them that these elements to simply open the appropriate window to dock?

I'm not sure that understand your question. If you want to display this folder in different way (once you click on it in the Dock), just right click on the folder and choose the option you want under ' content seen as '.

However, if you what you want is to open the folder in a Finder directly from the docking window, right click on the folder and press "Open..."  ». After you open the file, you can choose the view you want in the toolbar of the Finder or in the 'View' menu.

  • Status bar in the Finder Windows?

I remember that there used a status bar (or the information bar or whatever) at the bottom of all the Finder Windows by default with information such as the number of files in the current folder, etc, but I do not see it in El Capitan. Is there a way to turn this back on? It was very useful.

They are two distinct: display the status bar, see the path bar
